Our guest saxophonist, Carl Harris, is a native of Newport News. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Instrumental Performance and a Master s of Science in Music Education from Virginia State University. After college Carl performed in a number of Jazz and secular groups around the Washington Metro area and is an accomplished song writer and composer. Carl also served for 5 years as a minister of music for Antioch Baptist Church in Fairfax Station. About This Morning s Hymn: Let There Be Peace on Earth was written by Miller and Jackson in 1955 and was first performed at the National Convention of Christians and Jews. It is a popular prayer for peace and it affirms that all of us are children of God. The Chancel Flowers are given to the glory of God in memory of Lori MacDonald s father by Lori and Jim MacDonald. The Narthex Arrangement is given to the glory of God in memory of John Daugherty for his August 7 birthday by his wife, Nancy. After college Carl performed in a number of Jazz and secular groups around the Washington Metro area and is an accomplished song writer and composer. Carl also served for 5 years as a minister of music for Antioch Baptist Church in Fairfax Station. About This Morning s Hymn: Let There Be Peace on Earth was written by Miller and Jackson in 1955 and was first performed at the National Convention of Christians and Jews. It is a popular prayer for peace and it affirms that all of us are children of God. The Chancel Flowers are given to the glory of God in memory of Lori MacDonald s father by Lori and Jim MacDonald.
