Please take an angel from the tree, purchase the item and return it by Sunday, December 11. Please do not wrap the gift. Families from Catholic Charities list of needy families will choose the gifts and volunteers will wrap them. Volunteers are needed to help with wrapping and setup at Blessed Sacrament on Monday, December 12 from 8:00 to 5:00 and Tuesday, December 13 from 8:30 until 2:00. Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá Choir presents The 40th annual Candlelight Meditation Saturday and Sunday, December 17 and 18 7:30 p.m. in the Mission Church This year s Candlelight presentation will feature seasonal music, both traditional and Carols anew. Music is set around Scripture readings of the Season. Featuring; the Mission Choir, accompanied by Organist Howard McCullough, the Classic Brass, Percussion ensembles, Soloists, and Readers, all directed by Gene Regard. A reception will be held following in La Sala. Free-will offering will be taken. Mission Bible Study Save the Date! The Mission Bible Study will resume Tuesday evenings in the California Room from 7 8:15 pm starting January 24, 2017 with the study of the Book of Genesis, Part I. We will also be signing up volunteers to help at several upcoming activities including the December 15 dinner service at Rachel s Women s 6:30pm-11:30pm December 21 Holy Hour at Mission Parish with Music 6pm - 7pm December 28 The Nazareth School Cadette Girl Scout Troop 3493 is collecting jackets for the needy after the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Dec. 11, outside of St. Francis Chapel. We are asking parishioners to clean out their closets and donate gently used jackets. The troop will collect the jackets and ensure they are given to individuals and/or families in need. 5 PREPARE THE WAY Saint John the Baptist appears on the scene today as Advent enters its second week. The mysterious consumer of locusts and wild honey, John echoes the words of the prophet Isaiah as he calls for repentance in the face of the nearness of the kingdom of heaven. The rhythms of the Christian life are often confounding. Each year we meet the Baptist and hear his calls for repentance. Each year we see him pointing to the one who is coming after him, the Lord Jesus. Yet each year the words and actions of John the Baptist echo anew in our hearts, because we have fallen into old sinful traps again and again. Advent gives us the opportunity once again to turn away from our sinful ways and embrace the gospel way of life.
