Matthew 11:28 Religious Education Volunteers We are currently looking for enthusiastic, dedicated people to assist catechists with our Religious Education Program. Any time you can give is much appreciated! Please contact the Director of Religious Education, Carol Gamara, at (619) and/or dre@missionsandiego.org. Registration for Religious Education On Sundays, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6 and August 13 from 8 a.m. - Noon, in the Religious Education Building, we are accepting registration for children 4 years old through 8th grade for faith formation. Registration will also occur from July 10 - August 10, Monday - Thursday, between 8 a.m p.m. in the Religious Education Building. Festival Finds is accepting donations of good quality, gently used, transportable antique furnishings, art work and wall hangings, costume jewelry, china, crystal, silverware, designer purses, decorative pillows and more. We plan to present a salon of high-end re-usables sold for the benefit of the Mission. Please call the Parish Office at (619) to make arrangements for the delivery of your items. Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God. Romans 15:7. Hospitality meant something to Jesus. It was more than common custom. Hospitality showed respect for the visitor. It demonstrated the humility of the host. It avoided the temptation to sneer at the less fortunate or the less moral. Do you have the heart of an Usher? Attention Youth Ministry Families It's not too late to volunteer for Festival of the Bells! Please contact the Youth Office either by phone or to sign up. For those who just completed Confirmation 1 formation, you may sign up to earn all your required service hours through this event. We look forward to being with you soon! Early Registration for Confirmation Formation begins July 9 until August 13. Incoming 9th-11th graders may begin the two year formation process, which applies to all high school students in Catholic school and public school. Returning Candidates for 2nd year must register and be interviewed prior to official gatherings beginning in September. Please contact the Youth Office to set up an appointment. Ms. V.J. Brion at (619) youthministry@missionsandiego.org Festival of the Bells Opening Ceremonies and Reception with Bishop John Dolan The Festival of the Bells will formally open Saturday, July 15, at Noon with Bishop John Dolan presiding at a ceremony in the Mission Church. A procession will include the ringing and blessing of the Mission Bells and the blessing of the festival booths and workers. Following this ceremony, a reception will be held in the Rectory Garden with a light lunch, refreshments and an opportunity to meet Bishop Dolan. Reception Fee is $25 per person and includes reserved seating for the ceremony. Reservations for the reception must be made in advance through the Parish Office, as tickets will not be available the day of the event. An Invitation to the RCIA Mission San Diego de Alcalá cordially invites you to enter the RCIA process this fall and experience a new and enriched meaning to your life through renewed faith and love. This process is for those interested in possibly becoming Catholics and for those Catholics who have not completed their Sacraments. The Mission RCIA process will begin September 7 at 7 pm also in the California Room. We welcome you and pray that the Lord will bless your journey of faith. A Mission Spanish style dining table and six chairs will be sold to the highest bidder during the Festival. This dark wood table is 7 feet by 44 inches with four side chairs and two arm chairs. It can be seen in the Festival Finds room in La Sala. Nazareth Preschool has openings in their 4 year old program. Children must be 4 years old before or by September 1 and fully potty trained. It serves the poor in a wide variety of local settings; meets monthly for Liturgy, sharing and book discussion; consists of volunteers age 50+; and provides spiritual reflection on a one-to-one basis for volunteers. 3 Mission Bible Study on The Bread of Life Discourse and the Holy Eucharist will begin Tuesday, July 25 at 7 p.m. in the California Room of the St. Francis Center (lower level) and will run through Tuesday, August 8. Mission Mothers of Faith Starting July 11 our Weekly Bible Study and Play date is switching to Tuesdays from 9:30-11:00 (location varies). All moms of young children are invited to come make new friends and grow in our faith. We will not meet Tuesday, July 4th. Your cellular phone can have a second life. Many charities collect old phones and send them to people in need. Or check with the manufacturer, they may have a take-back program that will recycle it properly. Senior Men s Group The group meets for lunch the 3rd Thursday of each month. Festival of the Bells Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16 Festival of the Bells will celebrate the 248th Anniversary of the founding of Mission San Diego de Alcalá in July. If you are unable to volunteer, please donate to one of the following areas: Gift Certificates or gift cards or other prizes for the Silent Auction, Plants for the Plantique, Book, magazines and DVDs for the Recycled Media booth, Artwork for the Art Walk Show, and Food and beverage for the various food booths. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the ongoing Restoration and Preservation of the Mission. Join us for food, games, live entertainment, booths, prizes and great family fun! 5 A HUMBLE KING Like a tonal center in music, the note to which we keep returning in today s readings is humility. We wait in joyful expectation for the coming of our Lord as King. But what we are told to expect and rejoice over is a meek and humble king, riding on an ass. Not horses or chariots of the great and mighty, but a humble beast carries the Ruler whose dominion stretches from the River to the ends of the earth (Zechariah 9:10).
