Festival of the Bells celebrates the 249th Anniversary of the Founding of Mission San Diego de Alcalá. For those interested in volunteering, our next planning meeting, is May 9, 2018 at 7pm in La Sala. If you are unable to volunteer, there are other ways in which you can support this wonderful fundraiser. We are looking for donations in the following areas: Working grills; Gift Certificates or gift cards or other prizes for the Silent Auction; Donations for "Festival Finds" (art, fine gifts, furnishings, etc.); Artwork for the Art Walk Show; Food and beverage for the various food booths. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the ongoing Restoration and Preservation of the Mission. Festival Finds will be accepting donations of good quality, gently used, transportable antique furnishings, art work and wall hangings, costume jewelry, china, crystal, silverware, designer purses, decorative throw pillows and much more. Please call the Parish Office at ( ) to make arrangements for delivery of the items. Plantique Please save your empty garden pots. All sizes are needed. We will use the pots to prepare plants for sale at the Plantique. Donations of potted plants and garden decorations are always needed for the Plantique. There will be announcement in the coming weeks on when the Plantique will be accepting donations. Recycled Media Containers will be outside the Mission Church by the courtyard for books, tapes, and records after all Saturday and Sunday Masses beginning April 28 th. Crafts Calling all crafters. We are in need of donations for the crafts booth such as blankets, jewelry, homemade cards, knitted items. Marriage Enrichment: Worldwide Marriage Encounter starts with the love you have for your spouse and helps you to build, expand, and deepen that relationship. Sign up for the May weekend at Courtyard Marriott in Rancho Bernardo. The weekend starts at 8:00 pm on Friday and ends at 4:00 pm on Sunday. Food and lodging are provided. There is a $75 fee and a voluntary donation requested at the end of the weekend. For many couples "Their Weekend" is one of the most significant experiences of their marriages. Mater Dei Catholic High School Placement Tests April 26 and May 25 at 7:45-11:30am Mater Dei is a debt-free, $80 million, 48-acre campus serving 825 students. Music at the Madeleine The All About Music symphony will perform a concert, Sunday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Church. This group is made up of youth from the age of 12 years and up. If you have never heard them you must come to this event. They are wonderful and you will be amazed at the music they make. There is no charge for the event. 5 SAVED BY THE ONE WHO WAS REJECTED Some city teenagers often scorn and reject farm kids. Yet it s no exaggeration to say that humanity owes its life to farmers who care for the world s crops and livestock. This week s scriptures remind us that Jesus was as rejected as a shepherd, a farm boy, yet we owe our very lives to him. In this Sunday s reading Peter tells the people that salvation comes through Jesus Christ, the one who was rejected. In John s letter we hear that we have become God s beloved children through Jesus, whom the world did not know. Lastly, in the Gospel Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep (John 10:11). Will you join Jesus in laying down your life for God s beloved flock?
