Philippians 4:13 The Knights of Columbus Council #9498, will host their annual Oktoberfest Saturday, October 21, from 68 pm in the California Room. Join them for delicious German food and fresh seasonal beers from our local brewery GROUNDSWELL! Tickets ($15 Adults, $8 Youth ages 6-15) will be sold this weekend after all the Masses October 14/15. Contact the Knights at (619) for information/tickets. A new Catholic women s group is in formation at the parish called the Columbiettes, and will be meeting Wednesday, October 18, in the California Room. If you are interested in being a part of a Knights associated women s group raising funds for our parish and local community, come next Wednesday to learn more. Mission-Aires Luncheon Tuesday, October 17 11:30 am Luncheon California Room $10 Members $11 Non-Members Our September Luncheon and Meeting was a great success, good to see new and old friends after the summer break; thank you to all that attended and paid their dues. It s October so we re having our Oktoberfest! The menu will include Bratwurst/Sauerkraut, Tossed Salad, Broccoli, Slaw, Fresh Fruit (if available), and Apple Pie for dessert. Beverage and rolls and butter are included. Please sign up and pay in the Gift Shop by 1:00 pm, Sunday, October 15. You can still pay your membership dues of $15. And remember, new members joining now will receive a free meal in November, our Thanksgiving celebration. Registration will take place at the meeting. Youth Ministry Families - Our Gathering Sunday, October 15 will be held off-campus at Good Shepherd (8200 Gold Coast Dr., San Diego, 92126). We will NOT be meeting at the Mission that evening. Candidates looking for service hours may contact the Youth Office for up-coming events. The next event is the Knights of Columbus Oktoberfest Saturday, October 21, in the California Room. World Mission Sunday Next weekend, October 22, is World Mission Sunday. We are invited to support the 1,150 of the youngest dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin American and Europe. Please keep the Missions in your prayers and be generous in next weekend s collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Special envelopes are in the pews. Environment Committee Are you artistic or creative, with an eye for liturgical space? The Mission Environment Committee is open to new members. The Committee plans, executes and maintains floral as aesthetic design for the Mission Church and Saint Francis Chapel according to the various liturgical seasons of the year. Contact Linda in the Parish Office for more information. Fair Trade Fair We will have our first Fair Trade event Sunday, October 29 from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm in La Sala and the Rose Garden. The Fair will feature high quality, guilt-free food, goods and handicrafts from around the world. Some of the participating Vendors include The Gift Shop at the Mission, All Across Africa, Dr. Bronner, Lumily, Around the World Gifts, the Tomorrow Project, Dailia Designs, Threads World Wide, Café Virtuoso, Café Moto, Genesis Fair Trade, and the Fair Trade Organization. Make time after your Mass to see what s happening in the Fair Trade industry. Bereavement Ministry Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. - Matthew 5:4 Seasons of Hope meets Wednesday, October 18 at 7 p.m. in the Alcalá room. Grief Support group meets Thursday, October 19 at 10 am and/or 7pm in the Alcalá Room. Grief Fellowship group meets, October 19 at 11 am immediately after the Grief Support group. All are welcome. Mission Mothers of Faith Moms of young children are invited to make new friends while the kids play at our weekly Bible Study and play dates. In September we reorganized and now have both morning and afternoon meet up times. Contact sdmissionmothers@gmail.com for more information. Be a Mission Docent! The Mission has dedicated docents who are knowledgeable in our history and share that history with school children and adults who visit our mission. We invite interested people to join us. The classes are scheduled to be held six (6) Friday mornings which began October 13. Becoming a docent at the Mission promises to be an extremely rewarding experience. 3 Our Parish welcomes the newly baptized: Henry Galt Wilder Harrison Marc Macias All Souls Memorial Mass Sunday, November 5 5:30 p.m. in the Mission Church Sunday, November 5, the Mission will have a special All Souls Memorial Mass for all our parishioners, friends and loved ones who died since All Souls Day last year, November 2, All are invited to attend this Mass which will be at 5:30 p.m. A reception will be held in the California Room for the families of the deceased. If you have lost someone during the past year, please submit their name/s to the parish office. They will be mentioned by name during the Prayers of the Faithful and their name will be entered into the Memorial Book that will be placed in the Mission Sanctuary for this special Mass and throughout our Nine Day All Souls Novena of Masses. On Saturday, November 4, the Diocese of San Diego is hosting an Explorer Day for those men who are interested in exploring a possible vocation to the priesthood. The day will be held at St. Francis Center on the campus of the University of San Diego from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If living a life of service for Christ and the people of God is attractive to you, take advantage of the opportunity to attend this upcoming Explorer Day. Life Perspectives is a non-profit organization that provides worldwide resources not only for the men and women who are seeking help grieving their loss, but also provides invaluable training for family, friends and counseling professionals who want to effectively aid in the healing process. Register today at Commemorating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, Lutheran, Anglican and Roman Catholic Bishops will lead a Service of Common Prayer and Music Sunday, October 29 at 3 p.m. at The Immaculata on the campus of the University of San Diego. 5 THE HEAVENLY BANQUET The mountain of the Lord described in today s first reading is a place where there is no more hunger, no more weeping, and no more division of any kind. We need to pause and ponder these images every now and then, especially given the fact that we live in such a fractured world. The responsorial psalm continues to paint a picture of a place where only goodness and kindness flourish. These readings describe the heavenly banquet, to which God calls each of us through baptism and continues to call us throughout our lives. Let us RSVP to God s invitation and live our lives consistent with gospel values so that one day we will be welcomed to the table of the kingdom. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
