1 THE BREAD OF LIFE... JOHN 6:35 JESUS IN JOHN S GOSPEL WORSHIP GUIDE - MAY 6, 2018

2 THE WEEKLY WORD by Pastor C. Chappell Temple TODAY S FOCUS It s inspired by the famed Western Wall or kotel of Jerusalem built by Herod the Great two thousand years ago from limestone blocks. Reaching over one hundred feet in height, the retaining wall was constructed to support a massive platform which originally held the Second Temple of Israel and now is site of Temple Mount and the Muslim Dome of the Rock. For centuries, faithful Jews have come to this wall, all that remains of that sacred space, in order to be the closest to where they believe that the presence of God dwelt in the Holy of Holies in ancient times. It is said in the Talmud that praying at the Temple is like praying before the throne of glory because the gate of heaven is situated there and it is open to hear prayer. Prayers left within the cracks of the wall by faithful worshipers are removed each week and buried within a cemetery outside of the old city. In that same spirit, thanks to the efforts of some of our talented volunteers, we now have a Prayer Wall here at Christ Church as well, located just outside the Chapel where our prayer group meets each week to lift up the concerns of others. Intercessory prayers may be written on the seeded paper, folded and then left within a crack between the stones somewhere on the wall. All requests will be prayed over each week, and then the paper planted within our courtyard garden to hopefully come up as a flower or herb in the future. Stop by and give it a look sometime. For while some walls may be meant to keep folks out, this one is designed to take us right up to that throne of glory where God will always hear the prayers of His people. Looking for a church home? All are warmly welcomed at Christ Church. We invite you to stop by our Welcome Table downstairs in the Gathering Hall where you can find out more about our congregation. First time guests can also pick up a special welcome gift there. If you would like to join the Christ Church family today, you may do so either by professing your faith in Jesus Christ, or by transferring your membership from another Christian congregation. Simply fill out a new member card which may be found in the Sanctuary pew racks and bring it with you as you come to the front to meet the pastors during the closing music at any of our services. If you have not yet been baptized, we will be happy to recognize your decision today as well as arrange for a convenient time to talk with you about the meaning of that sacrament before scheduling it for one of our upcoming worship services.
