2 Page One SEAN KELLY S EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT On Monday, January 21, 2019, Sean Kelly will build a Ga-Ga Ball Pit at Bishop Diego High School for his Eagle Scout project. The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest rank achievable in Boy Scouts and only four percent achieve this honor. Sean is an active member of OLMC and has been an altar server for five years. Sean is a member of Boy Scout Troop 1 and has been in Scouting for nine years. Ga-Ga Ball is similar to dodge ball, but it is played in an octagonal pit with a soft foam ball. It is a fast paced, high-energy game that all students can play, regardless of athletic ability. The entire game takes five minutes or less to play, and there are only a few simple rules to follow. It is great fun and it gets students to interact more. To raise funds for the Ga-Ga Ball Pit, Sean will hold a Bake Sale after all Masses this Sunday, December 2. If you wish, you can take one home, buy up to two gifts for the child, wrap it, and bring it to Convent carport with the tag by THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6TH. What a wonderful way to brighten a child s Christmas! Our Lady of Mount Carmel parishioners will deliver several of these gifts to families. Get hooked by reading the summary or watching the trailer, building the anticipation as we wonder how the director, author, etc. will present the story. Do we also feel this way about Christ s coming birth this Advent season? Lighting a candle each week should help energize us as we approach Christmas. Think of eagerness and wonder the shepherds and Magi must have felt as they made their way to see the newborn King. It was an even greater excitement than what we feel about that new movie we want to see. As we begin our Advent journey, let us bring excitement and growing anticipation to our preparations for Christmas. 5 Whole Community Faith Sharing Gospel: Luke 21: 25-28, SAFEGUARD OUR CHILDREN Page Four Reflection: Today s Gospel in Luke asks are we prepared for the coming of the Son of Man. Are we troubled, worried and preoccupied with daily life? Or is our time and energy spent on what really matters, our spiritual life? This is the first Sunday of Advent. We need to ask ourselves, where is my time going to be spent this Christmas season? Shopping? Holiday parties? Stressed out? Or am I spending time with God praying and reflecting on the greatest gift given to us, our Savior Jesus Christ. Faith Question: What is one thing I can do to prepare myself spiritually for Christmas? Faith Response: This week I will find time to be still, pray and open my heart to welcome Jesus this Advent season. Keep Santa visits safe and secret-free It s the Christmas season, which means children around the archdiocese will be lining up for a picture with Santa and a chance to tell him what they hope to find under their trees this year. The Santa visit is a fun holiday tradition, but it s not a time when parents can let their guard down. Santa and his helpers are usually volunteers and may not have gone through screenings or tests to ensure your child s safety, so it s up to you. Keep an eye on anything happening while your child visits with Santa. Never step away from the action, even for a moment, and don t allow your children to be led away to another room.
