6 2017 January-through-May Report from the BEPC Session ~ Session's communication, to the congregation, of major items discussed and major decisions made at each Session meeting. ~ Session continues to meet on the first Monday of each month. Session approved Burlington East holding its third Vacation Bible School, with the support of Kintail on the Road, from Tuesday August 8 through Friday August 11. The theme this year is The Mad Scientist s Lab. There were seven of the current Elders whose six-year term was coming to an end in March Working as a Nominating Committee, Session approved and put forth to the congregation six people to serve a six-year term. They were Jim Allan, Donna Beaudin, Ann David, Bob Dickison, Ray Paquette and Jane Wiseman. These people were all approved by the congregation at the Annual Meeting in March. Todd Adams and Denise Crockford, who were among those whose term had ended, elected to take a break. We thank them for their contributions and efforts over the past six years. Session held a retreat at Crieff Hills on Saturday, March 11, The focus of the retreat was to understand how BEPC is doing and what our focus, as a congregation, should be over the next several years. This process of discernment continues as part of each Session meeting. One item being used in this process is the completion of a Congregational Health Assessment document which the Hamilton Presbytery provided. We will be sharing more information about this once we reach an appropriate point. Session approved the formation of a This & That Group. This group will be responsible for the decoration of the Sanctuary, organizing the selling of flowers at Easter and Christmas, providing flowers for the women of the church on Mother s Day and, from time to time, running small fundraising activities. Mary Eidsforth has agreed to be the leader of this group. Consistent with previous years, Session has approved of the congregation funding BEPC children who wish to attend one of Camp Kintail s summer camps. If you have kids interested in attending Camp Kintail, you should speak to Beryl Gorrie or Bob Dickison. With the support of a 10 th Anniversary Planning team, Session is supporting several activities over the year. The most significant activity will be the 10 th Anniversary Gala which will be held on Sunday,

7 October 15 at the Atrium Banquet centre. Tickets will be reasonably priced and available for purchase in late summer. Session is supporting the Christian Education Committee efforts to hire a Youth Leader who would lead Sunday School each week. If you know of a student looking for a part-time role, speak to Gordon Fielding to get more details about this position. ~ Respectfully submitted by your Session BEPC FINANCIAL UPDATE May 2017 Year To Date Budget Year To Date Actual May Budget May Actual Envelope Givings Presbyterians Sharing Total Income Total Expenses Surplus/ Deficit $64, $5, $81, $82, $1, $68, $6, $89, $82, $7, $12, $1, $16, $16, $ $11, $1, $14, $15, $ NOTE: RED numbers reflect results that are below budget The chart above provides the year-to-date and month-of-may financial results.
