Bring candy to hand out to the neighborhood kids and decorate your car trunk in a family-friendly theme. There will be a prize for the Best Decorated Trunk, so be creative! If you would like to donate candy you can leave it in the baskets in the foyer. If you Live the Word James 1:22-23 Two weekends ago 15 of our teens participated in the Fall Youth Retreat up at Ponderosa Christian Camp. There was a lot of food (and an awesome kitchen staff), great weather (though it was pretty chilly that first night), lots of game-playing (what's with those weird card games?), and some fun (and frustrating!) activities. They definitely built some good relationships. Even the discussion sessions were popular ("This is kind of like school work, only more fun!"). Bheki Mamba Swaziland The theme was "Jesus Changes Everything". In one session they discussed how it can be difficult sometimes to talk to others about Jesus and that being a good example without judgement is a great start. During the New Habits session they focused not so much on how to avoid bad habits but the good habits they have and how to keep and cultivate good habits. When asked how Jesus changes us one said, "We are loved, worthy, beautiful and not alone." Why do they think we, as Christians, no longer view others from a worldly point of view? "He put His point of view into us." Our kids can be pretty wise. African Christian College Swaziland We're already looking forward to doing it again next year (and bringing a few more blankets)! 6 Romans: Wickedness and Wrath Romans 1:26-32 Project 9K - books read YTD. Affirmation: I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. Romans 1:16 Right responses to wickedness and wrath. 1. Recognize that Paul presents a picture that maps onto the of our world. In the beauty of the world we see God s. God s wrath: Not an out of control,, capricious anger. In the of the world we see God s wrath. Is the on which the gospel shines. Explains Paul s for spreading the gospel. Is in response to: Godlessness - disregard of God s rights - destroys our relationship. In the we see God s mercy. 2. Not self-righteously roll our eyes at what they are like. These verses should draw out any self-righteous that they are wicked and I am not. Self-righteousness is always. Wickedness - disregard for our neighbors rights - destroys relationships. Godlessness leads to wickedness: When we worship an idol in the place of God: It us. We will do anything to have it, increase it or keep it - no matter how to ourselves or others. Wrong responses to homosexuality: 1. Downplay or deny the of scripture. 2. treat homosexuality as a bigger sin than my sin. 3. It s a problem if we see homosexual acts as a perversion, but fail to see things like gossip and boasting as depraved. 3. These verses should always be read in light of 1: We that we have God s righteousness through the power of the gospel. We are to share the gospel so our neighbors in this broken world can escape God s wrath and in the gift of righteousness. We recognize that if Jesus was willing to die for us there is no one he. We are set free to love our neighbors as ourselves. We accept Jesus definition of neighbor: the people who our culture tells us are (or should be) No wonder Paul isn t ashamed of the gospel!
