1 September 18, 2016 Our History: SAVAGE STREET Church of Christ The Savage Street Church of Christ began on March 4, 1923 at 6th and H Streets. After sometime on Evelyn Street, we moved to our present location on March 20, 1960 People are never satisfied with their political leaders A king enters the world just as poor as anyone, but he soon rules over a kingdom. After a while, he thinks he knows everything and no one can correct him. Therefore, his citizens become dissatisfied with him, and when they get a new one, they support him, but in time, they do not like him either, and they soon look for a new one. Listen to Solomon speak of this common trait of nations, Better a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who will be admonished no more. For he comes out of prison to be king, although he was born poor in his kingdom. I saw all the living who walk under the sun; they were with the second youth who stands in his place. There was no end of all the people over whom he was made king; yet those who come afterward will not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and grasping for the wind (Ecclesiastes ). If you compare yourself with others, you will find that you are better than others, and you will find that others are better than you. What good then does it do for us to compare ourselves with others? For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise (2 Corinthians 10.12). The wise thing to do is to compare ourselves with the Lord, because He will judge us in the end. When we compare ourselves with Him, we will come up short every time, but He by His grace will make up the difference! DR Look at our nation and see whether these things are true. When you make the discovery, let it lead you to embrace God as the King of kings, and you shall find satisfaction in Him. DR Compare yourself with the Lord only

2 From Don s class last year: The Holy Spirit in Relation to a Person Before Conversion The Holy Spirit does not dwell in a sinner (Acts 2.38; Eph ; Gal 4.6). If the Spirit dwells in a sinner before conversion. The preceding scriptures are in error. He is dwelling in a sinful heart. Why should a sinner submit to the gospel? The Holy Spirit does work providentially to bring together sinners and Christians, as He did with the Ethiopian Treasurer and Philip (Acts 8). Continue to pray for our seminar that lot's of people will come from around the state and from our communities near by. Please keep our kids in prayer. They just finished up week number two of school and are starting to get into the routine. Pray that they can be a light to other students and staff at school. Show up 2. Do not bring up someone else s loss. 3. Talk to them about the person who has died. 4. They need time and space to grieve. Augustine You have undoubtedly heard of Augustine of Hippo, more commonly known as Saint Augustine. When was growing up, the only thing I knew about Saint Augustine was the grass I had to cut, never knowing it was named after a famous who lived in the Fourth Century. One of his famous works is The Confessions. It consists of his confessions of the sinner that he had been, and how he sought to turn to the Lord. Augustine began by saying, My Confessions, in thirteen books, praise the righteous and good God, as they speak either of my evil or good, and they are meant to excite men s minds and affections toward him. So let it be said of our lives.
