Key up the Bible Class! One of the 7 keys that make up our 2020 Vision is coming to Bible class every Sunday. In looking at what others have said about the importance of coming to Bible class, I noticed that it is mainly with a focus on the importance Sunday school plays for the young people and children; little or nothing was mentioned in many articles about the importance Bible class plays for the adults. The truth is that Bible class is important and valuable for everyone, no matter what your age may be. We never get too old to need to study the Bible and learn more. Most of the reasons others listed by others about the opportunities that are provided to have more fellowship with others, opportunities to mentor or be mentored and being part of smaller groups where we can develop deeper relationships. While all of these and other reasons they state are true, I would like to add from personal observations. For one thing, we are overall more ignorant of the teachings of the Holy Scriptures than we realize or care to admit. We just do not know the Bible as well as we may think that we do. Our discussions in classes can reflect that by either pooling our ignorance or just guessing at what God s Word says. That is why we are reminded of the importance of handling accurately the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15). The Bible teaches the importance of having good teachers of the scriptures (e.g. James 3:1ff). We try to provide good teachers for our Bible classes so that your time is well spent being in class. The Bible also teaches the importance of being taught the word of God so that we can mature and grow up as Christians, and not be tossed about, and carried by every wind of doctrine, because there are those who would trick us, and use craftiness and deceitful scheming (Ephesians 4:14). We need to stand firm in what we believe, and know what we believe. It is interesting that those the passages mentioned above involve Christians at Ephesus who had been well taught at one time (c.f. Acts Paul and the school at Tyrannus, and his warning to the Ephesian elders when he called them to meet him at Miletus). Those who had been well-taught would soon forget; and one of the reasons would be bad teachers, and implied are those who did not want to study. Instead of being able to quote the verses that speak about baptism, many today question whether or not the Bible makes a big deal about the subject anyway. The fact that we need to be retaught the things of God says we need venues where that can be and is provided. We call one of those venues Bible classes. They are worth it to be in them and learn there. (DN)

2 Netherwood News. Registration for Winterfest 2015 for middle and high school students has opened. You can find more information about this event by picking up one of the brochures on the teen bulletin board by Anthony s office. Aluminum Recycling today! Children s Worship will be held during morning services today for children 2 years old through Kindergarten. If you are interested in local evangelism using World Bible School lessons there is a Small Group forming that is being led by Jimmie and Lorraine Lewis. The first meeting of this Small Group will be at the building at 5:00 today in room 104. There will be NO small group for the middle and high school today because of the concert the youth ministry will be attending. If you have already prepurchased tickets for the concert, we will be leaving the building at 3:30 PM. The Wonderful Wednesday Dinner is October 8th at 5:30PM in the gym. We will have Pulled Pork/BBQ, Korean slaw, Baked Beans, Chips, Rolls and Dessert, followed by our Wonderful Wednesday Worship! No Thursday Ladies Class on October 9th due to APS s Fall Break. Ladies Game Night is Thursday, October 9th at 6:30PM in the Library. The Singles will be going out to lunch on Sunday, October 12th following Bible Class. We will carpool to Red Rocks in the Jemez Mountains. If you have any questions see Laurel Wilkerson. There will be a meeting for all teens, parents, and chaperons attending or that have teens attending the youth retreat on Sunday, October 12th immediately following second service in the high school room. Please make plans to attend. Ladies of all ages are invited to coffee on Monday, October 13th at Flying Star on Wyoming and Paseo at 7:00PM. The Singles Bible Study, Christian lies, taught by David Wilkins at the home of Nancy Clements will be on Thursday, October 16th at 6:30PM. There will be a Norwex party in the Fellowship Hall on Thursday, October 23, at 6:30PM for you to purchase and donate to a Norwex Basket for the ACCH Auction. Come learn about the benefits of using the Norwex products and help the Albuquerque Christian Children s Home. Men s Higher Ground at Mountainview Christian Camp is October 23rd-26th. Singles Game Night is Friday, October 24th at 6:30PM at the home of Nancy Clements. Our first annual Trunk-or-Treat will be held on Halloween, Friday, October 31st from 6:00PM-9:00PM. Bring candy to hand out to the neighborhood kids and decorate your car trunk in a familyfriendly theme. There will be a prize for the Best Decorated Trunk, so be creative! Paula Ruska s sister, Sue, has colon cancer and will be having surgery soon. Terry Paden s brother, Jay, has a staph infection. Pray for Sylvia Strickland as she is dealing with many medical issues and is undergoing dialysis three times a week. Notice it doesn t come about by doing whatever we desire but rather by knowing the Lord. Consider today how you are going to be more intentional about seeking out God s precepts understanding that seeking out His precepts isn t primarily about following rules but about something much deeper. Meditate and pray about these things. Saturday, October 11th, 2014 Reread Exodus and consider how and why the Lord has set you free. What are you specifically doing with this freedom to draw people into His light so that they too can be free? What is God saying to you about how and why He has set you free? Setting Free the Light As we continue to see how God has graciously allowed our story to be a part of His story, we will reflect upon the beautiful reality that God has always and continues to work redemptively to allow all people to be free to live as He intended them to live so that they can shine His light. Monday, October 6th, 2014 Read Exodus chapter 12 and consider why the Lord was setting His people free. Was it just to rescue them from the hands of the Egyptians? Consider the following question. What has God set you free from so that you can be free to do? Pray today that you would have a deeper recognition that God hasn t just set you free from sin as wonderful as this is. He has set you free from sin so that you can live as He created and intended for you to live. Tuesday, October 7th, 2014 Read Exodus 13:1-16 and consider why God is so intentional about providing instructions and guidance for His people to remember and celebrate what He has done for them. Consider today how you daily remember and celebrate what God has done and continues to do for you. Today, write down five things that you are currently doing or that you can do to remember and celebrate the fact that God continues to set you free. Wednesday, October 8th, 2014 Read Exodus 14:1-14 focusing especially on verses Why is it so easy for you and me to lose confidence or faith in the Lord in spite of everything He has done and continues to do? Spend five minutes today identifying things or situations that you have difficulty with when it comes to remaining confident that God is at work for His glory and in your best interest.
