Please pray for the Dominican Republic 2016 missions team that is coming together. There could be as many as thirty participants! Ask the Lord to give Scott & Pam Himes the wisdom they need to lead this great adventure July 16-23, Please pray for Burkina Faso as they respond to the terrorist attack there last week. Our 2010 team that went to Burkina had dinner only a couple hundred yards from the Splendid Hotel where the attack occurred. One of those killed was a ministry partner to our Burkina missionary team, Mike Riddering, who left behind his wife and two adult daughters and two adopted children. 4. As the snow finally arrives this winter, please ask the Lord for safety for those whose job it is to keep our roads clear. Among the many is our own Keith Driesbaugh. Please pray for our police, firemen, and first aiders as they respond to any need no matter what the weather. TRAIL LIFE USA: Founded in 2013 as a Christian alternative to Boy Scouts, Trail Life now has more than 20,000 youth ages 6-18 attending troops in 48 states. If high adventure with friends, camping, and camaraderie sound interesting, the troop in York County will begin meeting at Christian School of York on Monday evenings in February. At ValleyView, we use as the primary way to distribute specific requests that are given to our pastors/leaders. (This does not include the ones from the response card). If you would like to remain on or join the prayer e-chain, please mark the appropriate box on your response card and make sure you have filled in your address. BABY BOTTLE BOOMERANG: If you missed picking up a bottle or two to fill with coins to support Human Life Services in York, you can grab them on the table in the Lobby. The bottles are due back on Valentine s Day Sunday. WAR ROOM THE MOVIE: This movie about the power of prayer will be shown at Zion UMC, 2595 Freysville Road in Windsor on Sunday Jan. 31 at 6:30PM. Herb and Sheila Hartman are the pastoral couple at Zion. SHINE: Our Sunday morning children s ministry during the 10:45AM service has a few openings for volunteers to help out in Jan. and Feb. Please see Alec and Emily Young at the SHINE table in the Lobby to find out where you can serve. SAVE THE DATE SWEETHEART LUNCHEON: Everyone 60 years and older is invited to a special luncheon on Feb. 21 after the second service. Our Youth Ministry wants to bless our seasoned family with a delicious meal and great fellowship. Sign up on your response card will start next Sunday. MEN S RETREAT: The Metro District of the C&MA is hosting a men s retreat, with President John Stumbo as the featured speaker, in Cape May, NJ on March 11-12, The cost is $180 and includes one night hotel stay and three meals (Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast and lunch). CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN: Most of you are aware that we ve had two teams that have met over the past year developing plans to make sure our twenty -five year old building continues to help us accomplish all that our Lord desires. They have identified five primary areas to improve: our HVAC system, our Lobby/ bathrooms, mini-makeover of Kid s Wing, creating a unified office area, and upgrading our projection and lighting in the sanctuary. Lord willing, in August 2016 we will begin to present the plans to you and give you an opportunity to affirm the Lord s desire to move forward. FOR SALE: (as is) 2008 Chevy Malibu LS, 4 cyl. 4 OPERATION BACKPACK FACT: 2/3 of all students who cannot read fluently by 4 th grade end up in jail or on welfare FACT: 85% of all juveniles in the court system are illiterate FACT: Nutritious, healthy food affects how a student learns IN EVERY CASE attendance went up of those who received backpack meals IN EVERY CASE test scores went up of those who received backpack meals IN EVERY CASE reading levels went up of those who received backpack meals IN EVERY CASE trips to the school nurse went down of those who received backpack meals Source: National Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL) FACT: Kreutz Creek Elementary School has 160 students who qualify for free lunches because of their family income. CONCERN: Do these students get nutritional food over the weekends? With OPERATION BACKPACK a bag of nutritious food will be sent home to those students who qualify for free lunches these bags of food would be put into the students backpacks each Friday each bag would contain a 2 day supply of nutritious food for the weekend A sample bag of food would include: 2 breakfast items (a large box or 2 individual boxes of cereal, Pop Tarts or nutritional bars) 2 lunch items (Mac & Cheese and fruit) 2 dinner items (canned meal with flip top lids) Fresh fruit 2 healthy snacks (raisins or cheese crackers) The specific items would depend on what is available. For the safety of the children, none of the items should require a can opener to open or a stove to prepare.
