1 The Daily Orbit Issue: 8 January 12 th, 2010 Good Morning Ladies! I can t believe it s already 2010! Time sure flies! I am so excited for our speaker this morning, Diane Biegler. She will be discussing Financial Organization. Sit back relax and feel free to take some notes! My husband and I have been married for 35 years. Wow! It still amazes me how God has worked on our marriage and in our lives all these years. My husband was active duty Air Force for 21 years we moved 17 times in those 21 years to such places as North Dakota, Teheran IRAN, California, Idaho, GERMANY, Nebraska, Virginia, and now back here in King County, WA (where we are both from). My husband retired from the USAF in 1994 and currently works at the Social Security office here in Auburn. Our daughter, Carole, was born 11 months after we were married so she is 34 years old and has been married for 14 years to her husband, Mark, who is a Canine officer for the Hampton, VA police department. They have 2 children Kayla 14 and Mark 10. Carole has 2 jobs and is currently in a program as a full-time student working on her master s degree to become a teacher in the Hampton, VA school district. We were so blessed to have them with us over the Christmas season this year. Ohhhh Joy! Our son, Andrew, is 31 years old and has been married for 5 ½ years and have a 4 year old son. Our son works for a company that installs the technology equipment in law enforcement and medical vehicles. His wife is an awesome mom and homemaker. Having been married at a very young age (18) I had a lot of growing up and learning to do in the area of finances. Money (and children) don t come with an instruction manual. If I can impact others to not make some of the mistakes I made, and to know the rules of the money game, then I feel that I have made a positive impact on the future. I love making a difference in people s lives. I love studying the Word of God and growing in relationship with our Lord Jesus. I enjoy traveling, hosting gatherings, cooking, and serving people. I recommend the following two authors Dave Ramsey s book, Total Money Makeover David Bach, Start Late Finish Rich 1

Biegler Mentor Moment with Judy Baker! Thinking about this new year I d like to share with you a verse the Lord gave me to help me cope with the pressures of the Christmas season. It is one that I m hanging onto for the upcoming year as well. It seemed as though this Christmas season was extra busy for me, don t know why. I was really feeling the pressure when the Lord gave me a special gift. I was Psalms 138:7-8. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me. The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; (The LORD will fulfill His purpose for me. NIV) Your loving-kindness, O LORD, is everlasting; do not forsake the works of Your hands. NASB So, how did that work for me? Well, there are a lot of hospitality occasions and gifting opportunities for me in December. As the pressure increases, I find myself getting up earlier, sleeping restlessly, walking faster, praying those short gasping type of Help me, PLEASE! prayers, speaking abruptly instead of with gracious words. As I found myself sliding into the usual pressure behavior the Lord would whisper that verse into my ear, The LORD will accomplish what concerns me. And I would ask Him to please do that for me. Ok, so what is concerning me? Well, let s see, hospitality is not easy for me because I m not a tidy person. I recognized the sin of pride and confessed it. I realized that my motivation should be to help my guests feel comfortable by having the house be reasonably tidy and clean, not spotless and pristine for my pride s sake. So, I started asking the Lord to help me do those things that would make my guests feel comfortable and welcome. He didn t miraculously turn my house into a show place of Martha Stewart proportions, but He did help me. 2

We traditionally have Christmas at our home for our kids, grandkids and a few aunts and cousins. This year more of our family was able to attend because we celebrated early in December.

All of our girls, 5 daughter-in-laws and one daughter, have different approaches to parenting from being very laid back to not. This mix has the potential of a lot of fun and also some conflict.

??? The Lord gently would remind me that I needed to pray about those things and STOP WORRYING. All kinds of scenarios would come to mind and He would remind me to pray instead of worry.

Let me explain the praying thing. We traditionally have Christmas at our home for our kids, grandkids and a few aunts and cousins. This year more of our family was able to attend because we celebrated early in December. This frees up our kids to make their own Christmas traditions, etc. I was expecting 32 people after church on December 6th for dinner, grandkids opening gifts and decorating gingerbread houses. I found myself worrying about what might happen. Yes, I admit that I was what if ing. What if this happens or what if he says that or she does this???? The Lord gently would remind me that I needed to pray about those things and STOP WORRYING. All kinds of scenarios would come to mind and He would remind me to pray instead of worry. This started happening long before our celebration. I found myself being reminded to pray about all sorts of things related to our celebration. As I was sewing those last gifts and wrapping them, as I was putting up the tree and decorating, as I was cleaning off my desk which is right by the door that everyone uses and is the hardest thing for me to tidy up, I was reminded to pray. It was a wonderful thing. Let me tell you that our family Christmas gathering was the best ever, in my opinion. We did have 10 kids ages 6 and under so there was much hubbub. But there was an internal peace that ruled the occasion. The Lord definitely accomplished what concerned me. He went to the heart of my issue and showed me what to confess and what to pray. This verse isn t a yes card for all our wants. It is a promise that He will work out His purposes in our situations. We just need to come to Him with open hearts and willing spirits to co-operate with Him. So, how do we do that? By praying, by talking to Him, by asking Him what He thinks, what we should do and how we should do it, by telling Him what we think is concerning us and asking Him to show us the heart of the issue. One more gift from God. We celebrated on Christmas day with dear friends at our mountain house on Blewett Pass. It was a wonderful, laid back and relaxing time celebrating the Savior s birth with friends we love. Please know that I am praying for you as you gear up and march off into this new year. Get a group together You can often get tickets to concerts and plays at a discount if you have a group of 8 or more. Play a board game Kids love to spend time with their parents so have a game night! Other useful tips Remember to pay yourself first. If you don t put those extra dollars in a savings account, they will most likely be spent by the end of the month. Find the best price on gas. Check out gasbuddy.com, gasprices.mapquest.com, or seattlegasbuddies.com before you fill up. If you are buying something online, google the store s name and coupon code to find discounts before you buy. 5
