Also Wayne Chance for sharing his story with the youth. It had a huge impact on the youth. They are continuing to talk about how awesome it is that we have an Olympian right here at PUMC. All volunteers and support given to the youth is so greatly appreciated.

6 ADULT CHOIR This is a great time to join the choir! If you would like to try out singing with us please join us on Wednesday nights from 7-8PM. Childcare is provided during rehearsals. We are currently working on beautiful anthems to share during the worship service. This group is a very special group of people who laugh together and pray for each other. Anyone is welcome! Save the date: Choir picnic will be at Paul B. Johnson on Saturday, May 5 th from 10am-Until. Fried chicken is provided and each person is asked to bring a covered dish or dessert. There will be games/kayaks, etc. This is a multigenerational event that includes the children s choir, family members, grandchildren, pets, etc. We have always had a great time! CHILDREN S CHOIR The children s choir meets every 2 nd and 4 th Sunday night from 5:30-7. These children are learning how to read music, VBS songs, and music for their next summer musical. (To be announced soon!) Any children grades 2-6 are invited to join us in the fellowship hall for a light snack followed by music and games. This month we will also be celebrating Valentine s Day when we meet on Feb. 11 th. Hope to see you soon! A March 2012 Gallup News article says that Mississippi is the most religious US State. Mississippi is the most religious U.S. state, and is one of eight states where Gallup classifies at least half of the residents as "very religious." At the other end of the spectrum, Vermont and New Hampshire are the least religious states, and are two of the five states -- along with Maine, Massachusetts, and Alaska -- where less than 30% of all residents are very religious. Are you surprised at this? Keep in mind that this article was written almost six years ago. Do you think our state would still remain at the top? What does it mean to be a member of a church in the most religious state in the country? Do you think life for a church member is any different here than any other place in the country? Perhaps a better question might be if we believe life for a non church member might be different here than in any other state in America. You see I believe that the best measure of the effect of being a church member is to take a look at the people outside the church than it is to look at the members on the inside. Why do I believe this? Because I believe that if we are truly the church, then our actions toward those that are on the outside the church must reflect what we who are on the inside claim to believe. In other words, the world around the church ought to be different than the world in any other place. If the church can not have a positive impact on the people that live near the church, then the church may not be doing what the church was created to do. I truly believe that the Church is called to make a difference where God has planted the church. That means right where we are. We can and we do often take measure of what we are doing on the inside the church. We often ask ourselves, Do we have enough Sunday school classes for the appropriate age groups? Do we do right right thing with our youth? What about the young mothers or what about those that have been divorced? These are only a few of the things that churches often think about when considering what they should be doing. In addition to these things, maybe the church should look around the community in which it is located and ask what the needs are there. How can the church make a difference in the lives of the people in the community around the church? As we move forward into this new year we must first give thanks that God has blessed us with a place where we can continue to be the church that is faithful to what God has plans for us to do. Maybe we don t know what that is at the moment. Maybe we will continue to do some if not all of the same things that we have done in the past. Maybe we will be called to do a new thing that we have never done before. The only thing that I hope is that we are willing to do the right thing when the opportunity is revealed for us to do. Please keep praying for God s guidance and for our faithfulness to do what we are called to do. Remember, God has been faithful to us in the past and we know without any doubts that God will be faithful in the future. As always, the only thing that we don t know is if we will be faithful when the time comes for us to be faithful! In His Service, Bro. Keith
