2 Page 2 Beach Party & Baptism The Oakwood family is invited to join us Saturday, October 24 for a beach party and baptism at Sand Key Beach. Have fun hanging out at the beach together with others from our Oakwood family.. you may come and go at any time that works best for you. Bring chairs and a lunch, supper, or snacks if you wish. The highlight will be a 3:00 PM baptism of Tony & Brittany Dirre (and possibly others) who have stepped across the line of faith to trust Jesus as their Forgiver and Leader This is the key ceremony that Jesus prescribed to us to publicly declare and mark the beginning of our trusting Christ and our intention to be one of His fully devoted followers. If you desire to be baptized at this service, please contact the Church Office by October 19. Information about the meaning and procedure for baptism is available on our website at scroll to the bottom of the home page and choose Reference Documents, then scroll down to the Special Observances section and choose the age appropriate information on Baptism. If you don t have web access, contact the Church Office and we will provide you with the information. You may also be baptized at just about any time of the year in conjunction with your Community Group or a special gathering that we can assemble with you at someone s pool or lake. (That s right; you get your choice of salt water, fresh water, or chlorinated water!) Ask your Community Group Leader, Pastor Paul, Dave Dorsey, or one of our elders to arrange this significant event with you. Sand Key Beach is just south of Clearwater. We meet at the south end of the park out from the 2nd restroom/ shower building. Maps to Sand Key Park will be available at the Information Center in the Oakwood lobby. Look for the canopy with the banner in the picture below to locate our meeting spot. It will be set up by 2:00 PM. Maps to Sand Key Park will be available at the Information Center in the Oakwood lobby. Work Day We are looking for Small Groups, families and friends to have a great time of fellowship and work together on projects inside and out at Oakwood. We need people with trucks, rakes, rubber cleaning gloves, and painting skills. Please join us for work and fellowship on Saturday October 17 from 8:00 AM noon. If you have questions, please contact Luke (813)
3 Page 3 Congregational Meeting The Oakwood family is encouraged to join us on Sunday, October 25, ten minutes following the Worship Service for a Congregational Meeting. The meeting will last no longer than 45 minutes. Childcare will be available for those who sign up at the Welcome Center in TreeHouse or at the Information Center in the Worship Center lobby. GroupLink Did you miss GroupLink? You still have an opportunity this week to sign-up for a Community Group immediately following the Worship Service -- this is our next step to Grow in Community! One of the groups is full, but there are still openings. These new Starter Groups will begin in October. Groups will initially meet for 8 weeks to begin to taste the benefits of community and to allow each person or couple to determine if this particular group fits them well. After 8 weeks, if the group members gel, they will be invited to make longer-term commitments to grow in faith together. This is your opportunity to experience authentic community and spiritual growth. You will do this by studying the Bible and praying together as well as serving together locally in helping others know Jesus. Don't miss out! Watch for details on the new groups forming. Prayer Triads There are still opportunities for you to sign up at the Information Center to be a point person who will recruit and lead two others to pray with you on a Sunday morning. You will pray with the Worship Team 10 minutes before the service and then with your triad for 15 more minutes, Seeking God to do in us & through us what only He can do! Prayer Guide Our Prayer Team works each month to provide a guide for specific prayer requests. During October you will have a weekly Prayer Request printed on the Announcement Sheet in your Worship Program. Prayer Chain The purpose of Oakwood s E-Prayer Connection is to communicate prayer requests for our fellow Oakwood members, our families, friends, others personally known to us, and the ministries of our church. If you would like to partner in prayer for the needs of our church family, send your full name and address to ekrex@verizon.net with Prayer Chain Ministry in the subject line. You can also send items to be published for prayer at this same address.
