1 October 25, 2015 The Parishes of Page 1 O c t o b e r 2 5, Priesthood Sunday - October 25, 2015 We pray for all priests who serve in our parishes, in our archdiocese, country, missionaries, and who serve the Church in the world. Priests are someone s son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and Spiritual Father. Above all, thank you Jesus, the High Priest, who has called them to serve in His name and His Church. We pray that the Lord is guiding, leading, and with them always. Thank God for the calling and the gift of the priesthood. We pray for vocations to the priesthood of Christ. We pray that our young people heed the voice of Jesus to follow Him. May Mary, Mother of all priests, pray for them! Amen. Happy Priesthood Sunday to priests everywhere! God bless.

Worthily receive Holy Communion (ideally on the same day). Go to confession within one week before or after All Souls Day. That one be free from all attachment to sin, even venial sin. 5 October 25, 2015 Evangelization St. Augustine & Holy Family s Operation Olive Branch Luke 10: 1-2 Jesus appointed seventy-two other disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. You are one of the laborers called by God for this harvest. Jesus has given us all an assignment; it is to present the Gospel to the world. Operation Olive Branch is one of St. Augustine / Holy Family s tools for this assignment for our corner of the globe. We assemble the third Saturday of every month at 8 in the morning for Mass. After Mass, we gather for refreshments and a time of reflection and preparation. We are then given a blessing by Fr. Joe or Fr. Sean and sent out two by two. Others remain in the church to pray before the Blessed Sacrament for those sent out and for the people whom they will meet Saturday: November 21 - St. Augustine December 19 - Holy Family 2016 Saturday: January 16 - St. Augustine February 20 - Holy Family March 19 - St. Augustine April 16 - Holy Family May 21 - St. Augustine June 18 - Holy Family KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS This weekend, the Knights of Columbus will continue to keep the true meaning of Christmas alive by starting their annual Keep Christ in Christmas card campaign. Please consider helping our local Right to Life organizations and the mentally challenged in our communities by purchasing a Christmas yard sign, car magnate or a box of religious Christmas cards. Next weekend will be the last week to order your cards. There is a gold wrapped gift box in the back of church for you to drop your order forms in or contact Al Vivian for additional ordering info. In Partnership with St. John Providence Health System The single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated each year. Following these healthy habits will prevent illness this flu season: Avoid close contact with people who are sick. If you are sick, keep your distance from others. If possible, stay home to prevent spreading respiratory illness. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or cough / sneeze into you sleeve. Wash your hands often. Remember wet, lather, scrub, rinse and dry. If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol based hand rub. Germs are often spared when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home work or school, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food. Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Page 5 CHRISTMAS COOKIE WALK Believe it or not, Christmas is only a short time away. This year, Holy Family will be hosting its second annual Cookie Walk. Last year s cookie walk was very successful, bringing in over $900. The goal this year is to reach $1500 or more. Many were unsure of what a Cookie Walk was and because of that, may have missed out on some of the most delicious homemade Christmas cookies ever. Basically, the Cookie Walk is a Christmas Cookie Sale. Many wonderful bakers donated 5 dozen of their Christmas Cookies and the cookies were laid out so that you could walk about them and get a variety for gift giving or serving during your Christmas celebrations. Boxes were available for carrying all the special cookies that you wanted to purchase. They were weighed at the end and cost $5 per pound. Please continue to watch the bulletin for updates. This fundraiser helps support our Youth Group and general fund. Prayer for Priests Lord God, most holy, we approach you in gratitude for your holy ordained priesthood. You have called these men to be set apart and to shepherd your people, as you shepherd your entire church. We pray for them in their daily work. Grant to them an increase in spiritual gifts and grace, so they may be prepared for the tasks at hand. Lead them not into temptation and protect them from the grasp of the evil one. It is through the sacraments they confer that we encounter the divine in a real and profound way. May your Church never lose sight of these, your special sons, and may we, the body of Christ, never fail to cherish the gift of their lives, which they have freely given to you and your holy church. We ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son. Amen.

She was the way Christ chose to come to us, the way God chose to give us His son. Mary is the dawn which discloses the Son of God. She is also the way He will come to us the second time with mercy and power. In time, according to God's will, she will crush the head of Satan. In between these two events Mary is the way Jesus wants us to return to Him. She is the surest, and most direct way to her son and thus to becoming a saint. St. Augustine Usher Ministry Needs You A great way to grow spiritually is to volunteer for a Parish ministry. One such ministry is being an Usher. The Usher Ministry plays a vital role to enhance the worship experience during Mass. Ushers greet worshipers as they enter church, assist and direct worshipers during Mass, and clean up the church after Mass. St. Augustine Parish is in critical need of Ushers at all of the Masses. Your commitment would generally be one Mass per month. If you are interested, please contact Chris Stevens at or cascochris1@comcast.net. Chris Stevens, Usher Ministry The St. Augustine Altar Sodality would like to thank everyone who supported our Apple Pie fundraiser. It was very successful--thanks to everyone who helped make pies, and to all those who purchased the pies, and those who were very generous in their donations. This one-time offer is for freshmen or juniors looking to experience Catholic high school and all its benefits. This campaign is for the second semester of this current school year and will welcome new students to CMC on January 25, Currently there is only enrollment space available for 9th and 11th grade levels through this campaign. Students, who take advantage of this campaign and return in the fall of 2016, will be offered significant scholarship opportunities and financial aid to complete their high school education at CMC. It is important to note that this campaign is donor driven, a one-time offering, and will not be offered again in the future. For registration information, go to or call What criteria must a student meet to be eligible for tuition free enrollment starting January 25, 2016? Students must be currently in the 9th or 11th grade and complete the admission process. This includes submitting the admissions application and meeting with the Admissions Director or Principal. *Forms can be found at cardinalmooney.org/admissions.html Can a student from another Catholic high school take advantage of this? No, this campaign is for students who would be transferring from a non-catholic high school. Can I try CMC for a day? Of course, shadowing is available throughout the school year. There is also an Open House, October 25, Why is this for 9th or 11th grade students only? Currently, there is enrollment space in those grades. A very generous donor is willing to grant those students the opportunity to experience a Catholic, college preparatory education. What does the offer cover? This campaign will pay for tuition for the second semester of this current school year. Transportation is available free of charge during this semester. Students will be responsible for books and uniform costs.
