SUNDAY SCHEDULE 1300 E Aloha St Worship Service 10:00 am WORSHIP SERVICE Nursery 6 months 2 years Grace Kids 2s: Room 117 3s: Fellowship Hall (FH) 4s/5s (PreK): Room 119 SUMMER 2018 My God, Bones what have I done? These are iconic words Captain James Tiberias Kirk from movie Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, after Captain Kirk did unthinkable for fans science fiction TV show and franchise Star Trek he destroyed USS Enterprise which was symbol inspiration, home and optimism for characters and viewers beloved program. Destroying Enterprise was like eating cornflakes without milk, or having cheese with no bread or wine; you just can t have Kirk, Spock and Bones without Enterprise! For those us unfamiliar with pop culture references and shows like Star Trek, I am sure you can resonate with tragedy and heartbreak being displaced from home, being disillusioned when once inspired, and pessimistic where re was once optimism. To help guide us on our life s journey, stripped our normal leadership as a church, we are taking a break from our annual summer survey Psalms and spending some time with remnant believers in Old Testament who were stripped ir normal leadership and displaced from ir own Enterprise, Temple Living God. This Summer, Grace will focus on books Haggai and Zechariah that speak to a people who are called to rebuild Temple that was a symbol inspiration to nations, home to God and his covenant people, and a sign optimism that one day world would be made right again. After Kirk heartbreakingly stares at Enterprise burning up in atmosphere and asks, What have I done?, Bones replies, What you had to do, what you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live.. In Scripture, God allowed destruction Temple in response to our sin, but through that death His people were reborn. In Christ, His Body, or Temple, (John 2: 19), was destroyed so that in his death we might live. This Summer as we read and reflect, may words Haggai and Zechariah inspire us all towards true faith and obedience. Unless orwise noted, all Scripture quotations are from The Holy Bible, English Standard Version (ESV ), copyright 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry Good News Publishers. Used by permission. 3 REFLECTION QUOTES Then angel Lord said, O Lord hosts, how long will you have no mercy on Jerusalem and cities Judah, against which you have been angry se seventy years? And Lord answered gracious and comforting words to angel who talked with me. So angel who talked with me said to me, Cry out, Thus says Lord hosts: I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion. And I am exceedingly angry with nations that are at ease; for while I was angry but a little, y furred disaster. Zechariah 1:1215 Y all sitting up here all comfortable. Must feel good. Meanwhile, re s about two billion people all over world that look like us, but ir lives are a lot harder. Erik Killmonger from The Black Panr In all ir affliction he was afflicted, and angel his presence saved m... Isaiah 63:9 Crown him with many crowns, Lamb upon his throne. Hark! how heavenly anm drowns all music but its own. Awake, soul, and sing him who died for e, and hail him as thy matchless king through all eternity. Crown Him Many Crowns, Matw Bridges, 1851

Please silence all mobile phones and electronic devices for duration worship service. Text in bold is read toger by entire congregation. Plain text is read by one worship service leaders The small symbols you will see throughout se pages correspond to a "Key to Liturgy" that you can pick up in lobby to engage children in elements our worship service. Our worship begins each week with a call to worship. We are gared here today because God, our Creator, desires to have a relationship with us. Wher we realize it or not, he is one calling us to himself today and every day. FIFTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP Revelation 11:1518 Then seventh angel blew his trumpet, and re were loud voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom world has become kingdom our Lord and his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever. And twentyfour elders who sit on ir thrones before God fell on ir faces and worshiped God, saying, We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign. The nations raged, but your wrath came, and time for dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying destroyers earth. O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing Seated Standing Charles Wesley, 1739 Carl Gläser, 1828 arr. L. Mason, 1839 O for a thousand tongues to sing My great Redeemer s praise, The glories God and King, The triumphs his grace! My gracious Master and God, Assist me to proclaim, To spread through all earth abroad The honors thy name. Jesus! name that charms our fears, That bids our sorrows cease; Tis music in sinner s ears, Tis life, and health, and peace. He breaks power canceled sin, He sets prisoner free; His blood can make foulest clean, His blood availed for me. He speaks, and, listening to his voice, New life dead receive, The mournful, broken hearts rejoice, The humble poor believe. 1

LECTIO SACRA John 2:1322 Seated The Passover Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and moneychangers sitting re. And making a whip cords, he drove m all out temple, with sheep and oxen. And he poured out coins moneychangers and overturned ir tables. And he told those who sold pigeons, Take se things away; do not make Far's house a house trade. His disciples remembered that it was written, Zeal for your house will consume me. Lectio Sacra means sacred reading. It has been practice church for thousands years to have portions bible read during worship services. The assumption behind this practice is that we are people who need to be shaped by all God s word. So Jews said to him, What sign do you show us for doing se things? Jesus answered m, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. The Jews n said, It has taken fortysix years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days? But he was speaking about temple his body. When refore he was raised from dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and y believed Scripture and word that Jesus had spoken. This is Word Lord Thanks be to God! INTERLUDE CONFESSION OF SIN Adapted from holdfasttowhatisgood.com Standing Holy and gracious Far, At times we feel so frail and fragile, getting blown about by latest crisis, by bad news, by our own short tempers and failings. You call us to hold fast to what is good, but so ten we flounder, unable to find that solid thing that will center us again. Help us, we pray. Help us to see you as our center, and to cling to good that you create in world. Help us to set aside all our jealousies and prejudices, all our betrayals and lies, all that adds to world s hurt. Help us to grow even more into Christ s likeness, that we will bear his love and truth to world. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen. Confession sin happens within context relationship, both with God and each or. We confess toger, in community, before a gracious God who has given us himself. Confession both acknowledges our need for mercy and celebrates its abundance in Christ. (You are invited to confess your sins silently.) 2

RECEIVING OF GRACE 1 John 1: 57 This is message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice truth. But if we walk in light, as he is in light, we have fellowship with one anor, and blood Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. May peace Christ be with you! And also with you! Elvina M. 7 PRAYING THE PSALMS Psalm 99 The Lord reigns; let peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon cherubim; let earth quake! The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted over all peoples. Let m praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he! The King in his might loves justice. You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he! Praying through Psalms each week teaches us how to pray, using prayer book ancient Israel. As we pray, re will be pauses for reflection. Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called upon his name. They called to Lord, and he answered m. In pillar cloud he spoke to m; y kept his testimonies and statute that he gave m. O Lord our God, you answered m; you were a forgiving God to m, but an avenger ir wrongdoings. Exalt Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for Lord our God is holy! 4

SERMON TEXT Zechariah 6 [1] Again I lifted eyes and saw, and behold, four chariots came out from between two mountains. And mountains were mountains bronze. [2] The first chariot had red horses, second black horses, [3] third white horses, and fourth chariot dappled horses all m strong. [4] Then I answered and said to angel who talked with me, What are se, lord? [5] And angel answered and said to me, These are going out to four winds heaven, after presenting mselves before Lord all earth. [6] The chariot with black horses goes toward north country, white ones go after m, and dappled ones go toward south country. [7] When strong horses came out, y were impatient to go and patrol earth. And he said, Go, patrol earth. So y patrolled earth. [8] Then he cried to me, Behold, those who go toward north country have set Spirit at rest in north country. [9] And word Lord came to me: [10] Take from exiles Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon, and go same day to house Josiah, son Zephaniah. [11] Take from m silver and gold, and make a crown, and set it on head Joshua, son Jehozadak, high priest. [12] And say to him, Thus says Lord hosts, Behold, man whose name is Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build temple Lord. [13] It is he who shall build temple Lord and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And re shall be a priest on his throne, and counsel peace shall be between m both. [14] And crown shall be in temple Lord as a reminder to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen son Zephaniah. [15] And those who are far f shall come and help to build temple Lord. And you shall know that Lord hosts has sent me to you. And this shall come to pass, if you will diligently obey voice Lord your God. 16
