These are iconic words of Captain James Tiberias Kirk from movie Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, after Captain Kirk did unthinkable for fans of science fiction TV show and franchise Star Trek he destroyed USS Enterprise which was symbol of inspiration, home and optimism for characters and viewers of beloved program. Destroying Enterprise was like eating cornflakes without milk, or having cheese with no bread or wine; you just can t have Kirk, Spock and Bones without Enterprise! For those of us unfamiliar with pop culture references and shows like Star Trek, I am sure you can resonate with tragedy and heartbreak of being displaced from home, of being disillusioned when once inspired, and pessimistic where re was once optimism. To help guide us on our life s journey, stripped of our normal leadership as a church, we are taking a break from our annual summer survey of Psalms and spending some time with remnant of believers in Old Testament who were stripped of ir normal leadership and displaced from ir own Enterprise, Temple of Living God. This Summer, Grace will focus on books of Haggai and Zechariah that speak to a people who are called to rebuild Temple that was a symbol of inspiration to nations, home to God and his covenant people, and a sign of optimism that one day world would be made right again. After Kirk heartbreakingly stares at Enterprise burning up in atmosphere and asks, What have I done?, Bones replies, What you had to do, what you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live.. In Scripture, God allowed destruction of Temple in response to our sin, but through that death His people were reborn. In Christ, His Body, or Temple, (John 2: 19), was destroyed so that in his death we might live. This Summer as we read and reflect, may words of Haggai and Zechariah inspire us all towards true faith and obedience. 5 LECTIO SACRA Revelation 12 Seated And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clod with sun, with moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and agony of giving birth. Lectio Sacra means sacred reading. It has been practice of church for thousands of years to have portions of bible read during worship services. The assumption behind this practice is that we are people who need to be shaped by all of God s word. Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against dragon. And dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and re was no longer any place for m in heaven. And great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called devil and Satan, deceiver of whole world he was thrown down to earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, Now salvation and power and kingdom of our God and authority of his Christ have come, for accuser of our brors has been thrown down, who accuses m day and night before our God. With many volunteers needing a break from this past school year, (and with folks out of town), we are shorthanded and need a few more volunteers to promptly and faithfully help out in following areas: Toddlers (23's) : The 2's and 3's likely may be combined for summer, we have need of 2 volunteers. PreK: (yo): We have need of 2 volunteers to add to rotation. Ministry Facilitator: We are down ministry facilitators (who assist in providing support to volunteers and teachers) for summer on following dates, (7/1, 7/22, 8/12,8/26, 9/9). Volunteers for those specific dates are welcome, but we are in need of 2 new Ministry Facilitatorsse positions are paid and would continue beyond summer. Please prayerfully consider serving in a vital component of Christ's ministry here at Grace (Matt 19:1)! Each of se opportunities would obligate an individual to serving once a month. 17 ONGOING EVENTS GROUPS Moms In Prayer Group South Seattle Moms In Prayer is an international group with sole purpose of praying for our kids while y attend school. This is a structured hour of prayer that focuses on a different attribute of God every week with time dedicated to intercessory prayer for our children. Open to all moms and all school structures including homeschool. One Moms in Prayer group meets in South Seattle (Hillman City) every Monday starting September 18th from 1 pm to 2 pm at Rainier Avenue Church. Meals Ministry We serve Grace community members with food delivery in case of shortterm needs, such as injuries, illnesses, and new children. Volunteers are added to an list and asked to serve as y are able when needs arise. Currently additional volunteers are needed to help serve community in this practical way. 19 SERMON TEXT Zechariah 3 [1] Then he showed me Joshua high priest standing before angel of Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. [2] And Lord said to Satan, The Lord rebuke you, O Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from fire? [3] Now Joshua was standing before angel, clod with filthy garments. [] And angel said to those who were standing before him, Remove filthy garments from him. And to him he said, Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clo you with pure vestments. [5] And I said, Let m put a clean turban on his head. So y put a clean turban on his head and clod him with garments. And angel of Lord was standing by. [6] And angel of Lord solemnly assured Joshua, [7] Thus says Lord of hosts: If you will walk in ways and keep charge, n you shall rule house and have charge of courts, and I will give you right of access among those who are standing here. [8] Hear now, O Joshua high priest, you and your friends who sit before you, for y are men who are a sign: behold, I will bring servant Branch. [9] For behold, on stone that I have set before Joshua, on a single stone with seven eyes, I will engrave its inscription, declares Lord of hosts, and I will remove iniquity of this land in a single day.
