6 RESPECTING AND DEFENDING ALL LIFE: Who could have anticipated the effect of Roe v Wade from and how we treat our most innocent and most vulnerable members of society. Over 50 million children in the United States alone have died from abortion. That staff at some hospitals would induce the birth of babies with a disability, such as Down syndrome, shortly before viability and let the infants die due to immature lungs, (86% of Down syndrome babies are aborted). That fertility specialist would continue to implant multiple embryos, leaving mothers to choose who among their children would die by selective reduction. That the most dangerous place for an African-American is in the womb, Abortion is the #1 killer of African Americans, 13 million since That a NCI leading researcher acknowledges a 40% increase in the risk of breast cancer in postabortive women although this is challenged by abortion supporters. That post-abortive women experience higher rates of substance abuse, anxiety disorders, and suicidal behavior than those who have not had an abortion. That millions mothers, fathers, siblings and grandparents would suffer tremendous grief and pain from the loss of a child from abortion. women and families whose situations may lead them to seek an abortion. In our area we have several organizations that make a big difference, helping those in distress to choose life. So think about how you might be able to offer your support. 7 KINDER-GARDEN: The Tuesday Kindergarten class planted flowers to represent Day 3 of Creation in the Hope Garden this fall. MOME Clothing Collection (Moms On a Mission Exchange) Tis the season for going thru your children s closets and dressers!! The Cross & Bartlett-Snell faith group will be collecting donations from Saint Mary parishioners, sorting/delivering the donations and assisting with the November clothing exchange held at Milton United Methodist Church (next to Northside school) Saturday, November 11, Bring a bag take a bag or two. A box will be located in the front entryway for donations from October 28 November 4 PRAYING FOR THE SICK: One of the Spiritual Works of Mercy is to pray for the living, which includes, in a special way, praying for the sick. We do this in a general way at every mass during the General Intercessions. For many years, in our parish, we have also invited parishioners to record intentions of all kinds in our Book of Prayer at the Tabernacle, and these intentions, though not announced individually, are included at every mass we celebrate. Recently, we have received a request to be more specific in our prayers for the sick, mentioning them by name, so that parishioners could specifically include them in their prayer intentions, both at mass and in their private prayer. In response to this request, we will begin to publish the names of the sick in our Sunday bulletin when we are asked to do so. Being respectful of privacy issues, we will publish the name(s) only when requested to do so by the individual him/her self, or by an immediate family member. This will become a standing column in our bulletin, and we encourage parishioners to take advantage of this opportunity to have concerned caring members of our parish family intercede on their behalf for their health and well-being. To get a loved one s name on the Prayer List, just call Vicki at

14 Stewardship: A Way of Life Twenty-Eighty Sunday in Ordinary Time Today we hear that when given the choice between following Jesus or remaining attached to his material wealth, the man chooses his possessions. Jesus promises that the one who gives up any possessions for his sake will be saved. What portion of your spare time, your abilities, and your money are you giving to Christ through his church? Only you can give what you have - no one else can give it for you. HELP WANTED: "Saint Elizabeth Manor --'Where Care & Compassion Make a Home' is an adult assisted living facility in Footville, just minutes from Janesville & Beloit. I N T E R N AT I O N A L C O M B I N E D COLLECTION: Next weekend, October st, the new International Combined Collection will be conducted in our parish. This collection is combining the following individual collections: World Mission Sunday Church in Latin America Peter s Pence Church in Central & Eastern Europe Catholic Relief Services Your help in supporting these collections is critical. Please take this week to pray about the support you can provide. A brochure and envelope will be inserted into the bulletin next weekend for your donation. WORD OF LIFE: For most industries, it s the bottom line that re a lly ma tters. Abortion s represented over 51% of Planned Parenthood s clinic income (even though they calculate abortion as a mere 3% of services provided). And we as taxpayers are providing most of the rest of their income, as 46.5 percent of their revenues ($487 million in 2010) come from government grants and Medicaid, Title X and similar funding. ~ Margaret H. (Peggy) Hartshorn, Ph.D., Life Matters: Responding to Unplanned Pregnancy, Respect Life Program 2012
