5 Stewardship: A Way of Life Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time The saints and other heroes of faith are meant to inspire and encourage us on the path of discipleship. Let you discipleship bear fruit as the stewardship of your time, abilities, and resources, given freely and regularly. The Year of Faith I would volunteer to help...but just don t feel confident that I know enough. This is your year to learn more about being a Catholic Christian!! Why do we stand, kneel, sit? Why is the format the same for each Mass? Why do we say the same prayers? Why is going to Mass important? What is God calling me to do in my life? Who is God calling me to be? Why is my Faith important to me? Do I have life experiences that could help others...maybe teens? How is God calling me to serve my parish family? If you have ever asked yourself any of these questions please contact Sabrina about being a witness to the Faith for our children and/or youth at or sabrinae@centurytel.net. Our children need God...our children need YOU!!

FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP: This fall, the U.S. Census Bureau will release its comprehensive figures from According to the Associated Press, the official poverty rate is set to rise to 15.7% (from 15.1% in 2010)--the highest level since the mid- 1960s. One in six people qualified as "poor" last year. Economists cite a mixed bag of unemployment, the recession, and immigration--but the most important factor may be the one that few are talking about: the breakdown of the family. "Work, graduate from high school, and get married before you have children. Those three things, according to the Brookings Institution, results in only two percent of people who do all those things ending up in poverty, and 77 percent above the national average in income." Investing in marriage and family may be the most significant thing America can do to get the population back on track. "It is the intact married family with children that creates a larger share of re venue for government; it is that same configuration of family, more than any other that creates the most capital that can be used to grow our economy... The future strength of our nation depends on good marriages to yield strong revenues, good health, low crime, high education, and high human capital."

11 WORD OF LIFE: In only the last few years we ve experienced rampant disregard for religious beliefs in this country with the approval of embryonic stem c e ll r e s e a r c h ; le g a l justification for the torture of prisoners; the provision of tax dollars to abortion providers; the HHS mandates; and, most recently, a redefinition of marriage by many of our leading political figures. We can see that there is a loss of a sense of truth here, and objective moral norms rules of conduct that apply always, to everyone, everywhere and an eclipse of a sense of God and of man. To this culture of death the Church boldly and joyfully promotes the culture of life. We recognize that we humans are at our best when we give ourselves away in selfless love and live no longer for ourselves, but for another. This is what Pope John Paul the Great calls the law of the gift, echoing the words of Jesus that, No one has greater love than this, than to lay down one s life for one s friends. ~ Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York and USCCB President, True Freedom: On Protecting Human Dignity and Religious Liberty, p. 30 JEFF CAVINS BIBLE STUDY IS BACK! Do you have a clear understanding on how the Old Testament and the New Testament are linked? Do you want to better understand the scripture readings at mass and know how they all fit together? The Gospel of Mathew is an exciting study of the life of Jesus and how he fulfills all the promises of the Old Testament. Mathew primarily preached to the Jewish people of his time, and in this study Jeff looks at the gospel thru Jewish eyes. At the conclusion of this study participants will better understand who Jesus is and how he transforms the teachings of the Old Testament. 7:00 p.m., Nativity of Mary will offer the 24 week Jeff Cavins Gospel of Mathew DVD series. The class will be presented each week on Wednesdays at in the Nativity of Mary church hall. There is a $30 fee for the workbook and related materials (they can be shared if desired). To register or for more details call Heather Rude at Nativity of Mary by September 4. This fall, beginning September 12 at
