5 Stewardship: A Way of Life Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time We often hear, I m not religious, but I am very spiritual. Either the person has seen and rejected a life of faith, or has not understood what a life of faith requires and is seeking meaning and emotional comfort elsewhere. All of us bear some responsibility for this. The best way for people to recognize Jesus is through our example. What are you doing to be an example of Christ to your family, friends, fellow parishioners and people in your community? Are you walking the walk or just talking the talk? CLUSTER CHANGE: Last week we received notice from the diocese that our area clusters have been reconfigured. Our parish has been moved out of Cluster 280 (Milton and the 4 Janesville parishes) into Cluster 270, which includes St. Joseph, Edgerton, St. Pius, Cambridge, St. Paul, Evansville, and St. Augustine, Footville. This re-alignment has several immediate implications. The Cluster 280 Cluster Corner will no longer be published in our bulletin, but we will continue to include announcements of parish events from the Janesville parishes at their request, as we do with other area parishes. We will no longer be members of several cluster subcommittees which have been active for a number of years. Our parish has provided significant leadership in Cluster 280 since its formation five years ago, and we are of the opinion that many good things have been accomplished. In the near future, the 3 priests from the new Cluster 270 will meet and begin to discuss the implications of this change. CATHOLIC CHARITIES: Presents an Aging Conference on Thursday, September 20 at the Bishop O Connor Center in Madison. For more information contact Jane McGowan at or jmcgowan@ccmadison.org. BELLES OF ST. MARY PILGRIMAGE: Join the pilgrimage with the Belles of St. Mary to Trinity Heights Queen of Peace in Sioux City, IA on September Pray the Rosary on the Mound of Mary. Visit the Outdoor Cathedral, which is a 33 tall statue of the Sacred Heart (see photo on right); six Marian shrines; Stations of the Cross; Beatitudes Meditations; Adoration Chapel; life-size woodcarving of the Last Supper and the Gift Shop. We will travel via car (430 miles one way). Estimated drive time is 9 hours each way. Hotel & meals are self-pay. For more information, contact Sr. Carol, who will serve as our Spiritual Director, at or visit the website:
6 Pope Benedict has declared a Year of Faith beginning on October 11, 2012, which is the 50 th Anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and the 20 Anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. During this year, Catholics throughout the world are invited and encouraged to participate in programs that will deepen their understanding of the faith and their spirituality. Two recently developed programs that have been very popular in Catholic parishes is a program by Jeff Cavins called Bible Timeline, and a program by Robert Barron called Catholicism. The Bible Timeline program provides an overview of the Bible from beginning to end, and gives the participant an excellent grasp of the events of the bible and how they relate to our lives. The Catholicism program provides an overview of the main beliefs of our Catholic faith, and gives the participant a deeper grasp of the teachings of the Catholic Church and how they relate to our lives. Year of Faith Both are DVD programs, which engage the participant by means of reading, reflection, discussion, and viewing the DVDs. Each program consists of a series of 22 or 24 sessions of one hour to one and half hours in length. In order to get the most out of the program, each participant needs access to a workbook or study kit, which provides background material, reading suggestions, and reflection/ discussion questions. The workbook (for the Catholicism program) and study kit (for the Bible Timeline program) cost $ These can be shared by spouses or persons within the same household. If there is sufficient interest in our parish, we will purchase one or both of these programs, and begin them this fall. To assist us in assessing interest, please complete the form below and put it in the collection basket next weekend. Thanks! Francis Malooly, Bishop of Wilmington, Homily, Fortnight for Freedom Mass, June 21, 2012
