Don has just been elected by the Priests of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, and appointed by Archbishop George Niederauer, to be a member of the Priests Personnel Board. Congratulations, Father! DON T FORGET! Do not forget that on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM there will be Bible study, reflection and formation. It is a good opportunity to learn more about God, to deepen your faith and to learn to share your belief. Newcomers welcome. YOUTH GROUP The youth group meets every Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00pm. at the Pastoral Center. Everyone meets at the school-yard at 1:00pm before the meeting. Those interested in joining can come at this time. R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) Remember: Water, oil and gestures all are important symbols for the newly baptized. More important, however, is your own discovery of what these symbols and your profession of faith now mean to you as a baptized Christian. Perhaps you will come to see that the most appropriate baptismal symbol is your life as a person of faith. Your faith matured during the catechumenate as you prepared to be baptized in the faith of the Church. This active faith now calls you to do what you can to render justice where necessary, correction when called upon, and love for all. The central question to ask yourself now, or, if you wish to discuss with others, is: What does all this have to do with my life? Te Van Nguyen Our Lady of America Statue Soon, a statue of Our Lady of America will be enshrined in the Blessed Mother Shrine in our Church. Sister Joseph Therese of Our Lady of America Center Fostorio, Ohio is loaning us a 12 statue until our 24 statue is sculpted. In 1938 Sister Mary Ephrem (Mildred Neuzil) of the Precious Blood Sisters begun to have private revelations. These private revelations have received official church recognition as having occurred in the United States. The late Archbishop Paul F.Liebold of Cincinnati edited Sr. Ephrem s messages granting them an Official imprimatur and served as the seer s spiritual director from Please go to to read her story. On October 13, 1956, the Blessed Mother appeared to Sister Mary Ephrem as our Lady of America and asked her to draw a picture according to the vision and have a statue made accordingly, and placed in the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Our Lady said if this is done, The United States of America would turn back toward morality and it is the United States that is to lead the world to peace, the peace of Christ, the peace that He brought with Him from Heaven. Sister Mary Ephrem died January 10, 2000 in Fostoria, Ohio. The school was filled with wonderful parents who were here to drive and help chaperone on the many picnics and field day activities. Thank you to all of you those that sent food, drove, cooked, and served as chaperones. It was clear from the enthusiasm of all the students that your generosity was definitely and sincerely appreciated. Last week was election week at Holy Name, as most of you know. I want to again thank all of the candidates for putting themselves out to offer service to their fellow students. The speeches Thursday were well presented and well received and appreciated by the student assembly. Please see the note elsewhere in the newsletter listing all those who will hold office next year. Congratulations to each of you it should be a great year ahead. I want to also thank all of the Student Council for their leadership and service to the Holy Name community this year. Additionally a big thank you goes to Ellen Gee (mother of Nicholas, 4A) and all of the faithful Hot Lunch helpers. The program was so smoothly run and definitely an appreciated service to the families and children. I know everyone is looking forward to the five day a week program that will be offered next year. While we have one more Ice Cream Sale tomorrow, I want to also take this opportunity to thank Nancy and Albert Lee (parents of Gus, 4A and Christopher, Kindergarten). They have been our very faithful and organized King and Queen of ice cream all year long. Many, many yummy thanks. Finally, and with no small degree of sorrow, we say goodbye to our wonderful 8 th graders this week. We all wish them the very best in the four years of high school ahead. They will most certainly be in my heart and prayers. On Friday we will celebrate with our Kindergarteners as they graduate in the church at 10:00 a.m. We will celebrate again with our 8 th graders and their families at 7 p.m. at their graduation and final formal event at Holy Name School. ALOHA FESTIVAL NEWS We are remiss in extending a Thank You to Maeleen Hurley (Brendan, 1 st grade), for her help as co-chair of the Aloha Festival. Mrs. Hurley and Mrs. Barraza (Christian, 5A) will be cochairing next school year s festival, Fright Fest, in October. NEW TEACHERS We are happy to announce that two teachers have been hired for the school year. Anna Rivieccio will be our 6 th grade teacher. Miss Rivieccio graduated from Sonoma State University with a B.A. in American Multicultural Studies and a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Kimberly Campbell-White will be our 8 th grade homeroom teacher and will teach science to our 7 th and 8 th grade students. Mrs. Campbell-White graduated from the University of San Francisco in May. She comes to us with a Masters in Teaching, California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Single Subject Credential in Science.
