2 ANNOUNCEMENTS FLOWER GUILD SIGN UPS: The Flower Guild is finally catching up with the 21 st Century. The Flower Chart is going electronic! Find the SignUp Genius at: If you previously signed up to donate Chancel Flowers for 2017, the information you provided has already been entered. If dedication text has not been provided, the bulletin will dedicate your donation to the Glory of God. All arrangements will automatically be donated to Sharing Sunshine unless otherwise noted. Please confirm your donation information on the sign up by checking the link above. Should you have any questions or if would like your donation information updated, please Payments and dedication text should be provided no later than ONE week prior to your selected Sunday. A few dates are still open if you would like to donate flowers. Arrangements are $35 each and you can now pay by credit card on the SPC website via the Donate button! Checks made payable to SPC will still be gladly accepted in the offering plate or the office if you prefer to pay that way, Starting with January 2018, the Flower Chart will be exclusively via SignUp Genius! CALLED TO SERVE? Your Nominating Committee is seeking individuals who desire to serve God in a leadership role. We are seeking nominations for those willing to serve a three-year term on Session or Diaconate. If you would like to serve, or you know of someone who would like to serve, please contact John Barrie or Walt Coleman. SPC SIGN UPS: Now you can find links to all of the church s online sign-up lists in one place! More and more of our ministry teams are using SignUp Genius to organize volunteers so many sign-up lists are now being hosted online. Find the SPC Sign-Up Lists page on our website under the NEWS AND EVENTS tab. You will notice links to sign-ups for things such as the Chancel Flowers and Sunday Morning Greeters. Registration links for events like the Turkey Waddle are also located on this page. If you re not computer savvy, but still want to sign up for something, contact the church office and the church staff will be happy to add your name to the desired list. VETERANS DAY PROGRAM: On November 11, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., we will honor our veterans with an evening of music and reflections. If you would like to have a special veteran's name recognized in the program, please submit the following information in person or by ing the church office no later than Friday, November 3: Service Member's Name: Rank: Branch of Service: War or Years Served: Currently Active Duty: Yes/No If Deceased, Date: Submitting Church Member: Relation to Church Member: YOUTH DIRECTOR SEMINARY SCHOLARSHIP: We rejoice in announcing that Corey Goss will be seeking his degree in Theology. Corey will officially enter Union Presbyterian Seminary next fall and has decided to begin his journey this year by taking classes at Virginia Union School of Theology. The session has approved a Love Offering account through the church. We support Corey in following God s call and ask if you would like to support his journey, please consider a donation to the Corey Goss Scholarship Love Offering."

3 OUTREACH Habitat for Humanity: Faith Build: Oct. 20 & 21. We expect to be doing inside finish type work. If you want to be assured of a place on one team or the other, Scott Lau or sign-up in discipleship classes. There is also an ongoing need for volunteers to do carpentry work during the week and to help at the ReStore. Contact Scott Lau with questions. Chalkley Elementary School Mentoring Program: Beginning mid-october. A mentor spends one hour each week with an elementary child to provide a special time of fun and friendship. Questions or interest in the programs Contact Scott Lau. CARITAS at SPC: Oct. 28-Nov. 4. Thirty-two women will call our church home for the week. All are encouraged to be a part of this very important outreach opportunity. Sign-ups and donation lists can be found in the Narthex. CCHASM Food Bank: For October, we are collecting CEREAL, FRUIT, and DINNER. Please do not send perishable items or food in breakable containers. These donations will be distributed to Chesterfield County residents in need. Please drop your donations off in the trunk in the Narthex. OFF CAMPUS Holy Discontent: Faith & Advocacy in Action: Oct. 1, 2:00 p.m., Union Presbyterian Seminary. The Public Policy Purpose Group of the Presbytery of the James is offering a training for our witness to issues in the public arena. Women s Conference 2017: Nov. 3 & 4, River Road Presbyterian. For everything there is a season, loving the life you are living. Take a weekend away to love, laugh, and learn with other women and with special guest speaker, Jamie Ivey. Cost is $125/person. Find details at UPCOMING CHILDREN Children s Pray-ground: Sundays during 11:00 a.m. worship September - May, following the Children s Message, Back of the Sanctuary. A special place in worship geared specifically for children, grades K-2 for their own time. Third Graders in Worship: Sundays through Oct. 15, 11:00 a.m., F&E Room 204. A 5-week class during which children are discovering the order of worship, why we do what we do, and the Sacraments. They are learning the Lord s Prayer, the Apostle s Creed, and the Doxology. Most importantly, though, children are learning to worship God. As part of the class, children will receive a NIV Adventure Bible. Kids Alive The 1,000 Piece Challenge! : Oct. 8, 5:00-6:30 p.m., Gym. Youth fellowship for children in grades 3-5. We will focus on Cooperation. Bring a friend and join us for food, fellowship, study and discussion. Parents, you will want to come back five minutes early to see if the 1,000 Piece Challenge works!

UPCOMING (cont.) YOUTH Blank Pages Concert: Oct. 1, 6:00 p.m., River Road United Methodist Church. The Christian rock band, Blank Pages will be performing in RVA.

4 UPCOMING (cont.) YOUTH Blank Pages Concert: Oct. 1, 6:00 p.m., River Road United Methodist Church. The Christian rock band, Blank Pages will be performing in RVA. This free concert is a great opportunity for our youth to connect with other Christian students in a fun and electric atmosphere. The youth will eat dinner together before the concert. Sacred Shakes: Oct. 11 & 12, 7:00 p.m., Westchester Commons Chick-fil-A. Middle Schoolers, join Corey on Wed., Oct 11. High Schoolers meet on Thurs., Oct. 12. The Pilgrimage: Nov. 3-6, The Pilgrimage is an outreach in Washington, D.C. which also operates as a retreat for youth groups to gain a better understanding of outreach through speakers and participating in mission work around the D.C. area. Interested youth should register by Oct. 15. The cost is $50 and can be turned in at the church or given to Corey or Zack. Contact Corey with questions. ADULTS First Wednesday Breakfast Bunch of Deeper Roots Ministry: Oct. 4, 7:00 a.m., The American Diner. On the first Wednesday of each month, meet new members, get to know each other better, enjoy fellowship. All men of the church are invited. Bring a friend. The starting conversation is, What s up going into the new church year? Contact Scott Lau for info. Fellowship Circle: Oct. 11, 10:00 a.m., F&E 206. Betsy Cutler will lead the discussion on Lesson Two in our study of Hebrews. All women of the church are invited. Contact Anne Bagby for further information. The Deeper Roots Ministry Men s Lunch: Oct. 11, 12:00 p.m., Tavern 19 at Independence Golf Club. It is an opportunity to learn more about fellow church members, to meet ones you do not yet know, and to discover a new, good book. All men of the church are invited. Bring a friend. Contact Mike Paulette to RSVP. Early Risers Men s Bible Study: Thursdays, 6:00 a.m., F&E Hall. Come for breakfast and fellowship. Salt Shakers Dinner: Oct. 21. The Salt Shakers Dinner is a twice-yearly event for adults to be social in a relaxed setting. At this time we are looking for host homes for this always memorable event. If you are willing to entertain a large group (20 to 30) for a cocktail hour, or host a more intimate dinner (6 to 12) in your home, please contact the church office , or Gina Ahern Chrismon Workshop: Two Options: Oct. 21, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. OR Oct. 9 and 16, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., F&E 204. This class will make two beaded Chrismons and will be most enjoyed by folks who have some beading experience. The cost is $15. See the E-News for more details. To sign up, or call the church office by Oct. 2. WILD Women (Women in Loving Discipleship): Date, Time, and Location TBD. A women's Bible Study for busy moms raising children. Come join us on a Wednesday night in October when we will enjoy fellowship, fun, God's Word, and some time with just the girls. MULTI-GENERATIONAL Annual Seafood Feast/Oyster Roast: Oct. 7, 3:00 p.m., Virginia Power Boat Association, 4051 Old Gun Rd. Cost is $30/person - all you can eat. Reservations are requested. or call the church office - tfisher@thesalisburychurch.org or Deadline to sign up is Wednesday, October 4. Turkey Waddle: Nov. 23, 9:00 a.m., starting and ending at SPC. The 10th Annual Turkey Waddle is a low-key, family-friendly 5k run/walk with a 1.6k (Grandparents and stroller friendly) walking route. $10 for Adults, and $5 for kids. Community members are invited. Canned goods to be donated to CVFB. All net proceeds go directly to Feedmore's Central Virginia Food Bank and Shalom Farms to help support their feeding missions. 5 CHRISTIAN ED & DISCIPLESHIP Bring a friend to Discipleship on Sunday: Oct. 8, 9:45-10:45 a.m., We believe there are many great things happening in Discipleship on Sunday mornings at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, and we want to spread the Good News! On Sunday, October 8, all Discipleship class participants will bring his or her friends to class in an effort to share the excitement of Discipleship and the Good News of the Gospel. The class with the greatest percentage increase, then, will get a surprise in class the following week! Everyone will want to come back and enjoy the laughter in fellowship and treats October 15. Discipleship classes meet from 9:45-10:45 a.m. each Sunday morning. Here s where you can find the classes: Childcare A&E 302 Ages 3-4 A&E 300 Elementary F&E Grades 6-7 F&E 207 Grade 8 F&E 204 High School F&E 206 Adults A&E 2nd floor, Gym, and F&E Office Conference Room Bible Study: The Story, Sundays, 9:45 a.m. or 6:00 p.m., F&E Office Conference Room. We will present an overview of the Bible as one continuous story of God s love for humanity over this 31 week class. Please sign up in the church office so we can order appropriate material. Salisbury Presbyterian Preschool still has one spot available in our 3 day 3 s program and several spots available in our Friday Mothers Morning Out classes. If you or someone you know is interested in registering a child please contact the preschool office. Christian Education and Discipleship Monthly Picnic: Oct. 29, 12:15 p.m., in the big field. What a good old fashioned picnic we had on Sept. 24! It was a wonderful afternoon with fried chicken, delicious sides, and family fun had by all! It was so nice to hang out with all our families, relax, and watch our children play. Grab your calendars and mark down October 29 for our next picnic! Join us in the field after 11:00 a.m. worship. It will be full of Fall Fest activities that the whole family will enjoy! MUSIC The Music Academy at Salisbury has kicked off its eighth year with 108 students and fifteen fabulous faculty members. We are thrilled to have added our very own SPC organist, Suzanne Krauss, as one of our new piano instructors! We offer lessons, Monday through Thursday, in guitar, piano, organ, strings (violin, viola, and cello), trumpet, trombone, and voice. Bring in the flyer from the E-News and Blaze Pizza will donate 20% of the proceeds of your meal to the Salisbury Presbyterian Youth Choir.
