LABOR DAY CHURCH PICNIC: This year's picnic, Monday, September 5th, will take place at Rumsey Park, Ramada 5. Games and activities begin at 11:30, food will be served at 12:30pm. Hamburgers, hotdogs, soft drinks and water will be provided. Plan to bring a salad or dessert to share. In order for us to make adequate preparations, please, please sign up in 2nd Glances TODAY! Altar Counseling: At the close of every service, trained volunteers are available at the front and back of the worship center to pray with you, or to answer questions about salvation, baptism, or church membership. Feel free to take advantage of this opportunity for prayer support and/or information. 4 CHILDREN S MINISTRY: Thanks to the involvement of several teens from the Student ministry, several needs have been filled; however, WE STILL NEED HELP! The youth had their first fund raising event selling concession items at the recent movie night. They raised a little over $200! However, they still have $3800 to go so keep your eyes open for more fundraisers and opportunities to support our students. Men s Bible Study: Join us on Thursday mornings beginning September 8th at 9:00am for a wonderful 5 week study on The Mission Of Jesus. Dick Mumma will be leading the study. W O M E N S M I N I S T R Y Thursday Morning Bible Study Is Returning! On Thursday, October 6th at 9:00am we will start our Ladies Bible Study with a brunch and time of fellowship. We will be studying, Lord, Teach Me to Pray by Kay Arthur. It is an interactive, discipleship study designed to help women grow in a love for God's Word and in a desire to communicate with Him through prayer. Learn what the Lord's Prayer teaches us about effective prayer and how to put into practice its timeless principles. I know all of us desire to have a deeper prayer life--i am excited to study this for 5 weeks!!!! $10.00 for brunch & study or $25.00 for brunch, study and workbook. Childcare available. 5 BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE: Oh my Goodness it has been extremely busy!!! On Monday, I met with Tom from Redden Construction here at the church. We spent a couple of hours, discussing the 50% drawings and made notes of items to discuss with BGW during our Thursday meeting. There were several items that were requested from our past construction. We are praying that some of the reports and drawings will save us money. Our BGW Thursday meeting was very good, we discussed landscaping, electrical supply to our property, solar panels, civil engineering report, reports from steel and "concrete" engineers. And as always, all the regular day to day during the week. Melissa Petkoff / Church Administrator New Groups and Phone Chains: Our new groups are up and running! You may continue to join at any time. Printed instructions are available in 2nd Glances. Ponderosa Bible Church group is now for Prayer & Praise requests only. Members can still post on this group. I truly feel the caring and love from all my church family. Plus several other things that needed to be done. I had no air for at least a year and a half and I am so grateful to be able to drive and be comfortable again. 6 Missionary Of The Week: Gideons Article from recent publication There is no better way to train up a young person in the way he or she should go than to share a Scripture and encourage him or her to read it. School distributions have been part of the Gideons International since That s when Gideons first began distributing to 5th thru 12th grades. Then in 1972, these distributions expanded to include college students. Still to this day, most young people gladly receive God s Word and many walk away reading it, which allows the Holy Spirit to go to work in changing their lives. About 80% of all Scriptures provided by The Gideons International go into the hands and homes of students. ENTER THE LIFE BOOK: The Life Book presents a unique opportunity for churches to mobilize their teenagers to reach classmates and peers with the free gift of the gospel. School distributions have not gone unchallenged from the beginning. By the 1950 s there were several court cases involving The Gideons International and school boards. However, the red New Testaments continued to be shared. In 1972, they were followed by the green Testaments for colleges. In the 1980 s, the International Cabinet approved sidewalk distributions to gain access to schools. (orange Testaments) However, as it became more challenging to reach youth with the Gospel, the International Cabinet approved an innovative peer-topeer approach, The Life Book, in This annotated booklet of the Gospel of John added new spectrum to working with churches and has made significant impact on young lives across the USA. The Life Book offers a way to ensure high school students have a chance to receive God s Word. Currently, more than 1.6 million Christian students have shared over 23.1 million copies of The Life Book with their peers at school. A youth pastor from Alabama recently remarked, You ll be hard pressed to find a better product that is telling the whole story in a way that reaches this generation of teens. A student named Chris from Virginia said, The Life Book has made it easier to understand the Bible. It makes me want to learn more. The Life Book has opened my eyes to what God has in store for me. I want God more than ever. The Life Book is available in 2nd Glances to share with a teenager you know!
