1 September 2018 Faith & Fellowship A Note From The Pastor Trinity United Methodist Church November 2018 What a wonderful time this is in the life of Trinity Church! At the end of September, we celebrated our history with the celebration of the faith of our oldest members. All through October, we have been looking to the Book of Acts to show us the true life of the Church and held our Church Conference to review that life and look forward to what God has for us to be and to do. So in November we move forward into that life, beginning with our All-Saints Service and continuing with important events such as the Pork Supper on November 3 and the Craft Fair on November 17. We find the heart of our life together when we gather on the evening of Wednesday, November 21 to give our thanks to God from who all blessings flow. Two Sundays later, we enter the Season of Advent, the beginning of our Christian year, leading us to prepare for the celebration of the Birth of Christ and his coming into our lives to save us. Let me heartily commend to you a very special time in our Advent this year: An Advent Evening on Sunday, November 25 at 6:30PM. As the article on this explains, during this night we will set our sights on Christ s coming and open our hearts to all that can mean to us. Through it all, however, let us continue to pray for each other, especially as any have need of prayer and to support each other in the best ways we can. Your faithfulness in Worship is crucial to this life of prayer and support. We are an amazingly consistent congregation, coming together and spending considerable time on greeting one another and praying for one another and others as well as giving ourselves to the Word that God has for us each Sunday. I thank God for that and pray that we might always be known for the vitality of our Worship, giving thanks to God for the work of our Choir and our Worship leaders. At the conclusion of the Book of Acts, Luke tells us that St. Paul unhindered and with complete confidence, continued to preach God s Kingdom and to teach about the Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 28:31) May those words encourage us to pick up Paul s task and in our life at Trinity let the light of God s Kingdom be clearly seen and the Lordship of Jesus truly be lived for all to see. AN ADVENT EVENING SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 25 4:30-6:30PM We are invited to gather as a congregation on the evening of Sunday, November 25 to prepare ourselves for the Season of Advent. The first four weeks in December are the beginning of the Christian year, calling us to prepare for the coming of Christ both in his Birth in Bethlehem and in his comings to us in Glory. This evening together will set our sights on His coming and prepare us to receive Him anew in spirit and in truth. We will begin at 4:30PM with a light salad and pizza supper and continue into the making of an Advent craft to bring to our homes the Hope, Light, Love, and Joy of the Advent Season. The second part of our evening will be a brief Bible Study of the four passages from the prophets Jeremiah, Malachi, Zephaniah, and Micah which light our way into the coming of the Messiah. We will close the evening with a moment of Worship in our Chapel. Please set this date, Sunday, November 25 at 4:30 on your calendar so that you will be ready to be a part of our Advent Evening at Trinity Church

THANKSGIVING EVE SERVICE WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 21 7:00PM As is our tradition, we will gather and invite the community to gather with us on Wednesday, November 21. On the Eve of Thanksgiving Day, to celebrate God s blessings to us and give thanks for God s grace and love showered upon us throughout the year. You will see display in our front yard, offering this Service to all around. Please extend your personal invitation to friends and neighbors to join us in the celebration of Praise. When you come to this Service, please bring with you some symbols of that for which you are most thankful out of God s blessings for you. We will also provide opportunity for you to put your thanks into word or symbol as we present these as a harvest of our joy to the Lord. We also invite you to bring with you canned goods of foods that we will present at our altar as our offering to be shared with those in need. Our thanksgiving is made complete when we enable others to eat and give thanks to the Lord for the blessing of food to sustain our bodies and love to nourish our souls. 3 Page 3 SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2018 A VERY SPECIAL MORNING AT TRINITY With members of their family present, our congregation celebrated those of Trinity Church who are 90 and above. Six of these members were among our over 80 worshippers that day, and each was briefly interviewed by Pastor David as we noted their place in the life of our church. As seen in the picture above, Viola Brown, Helen Conner, Gladys Henderson, Henrietta Moyer, Thelma Wall-Corun, and Harry Wilhelm received the certificate and church picture prepared for this celebration. In addition to those attending, we also noted Bill Clauss, Dorothy Gaither, Doris Groh, and Jane Maher who are int their nineties but were not able to be with us. During the Brunch following the Service, we also dedicated the newly placed mural of the Hymn Blest Be the Tie That Binds, now printed on Canvas and framed to hold it for years to come. In further celebration of the history of Trinity, we also unveiled and dedicated a handsome poster displaying the central points of the development of our congregation. This poster, prepared by Claire Leidy and Lee Rockenbaugh, will be displayed in our Narthex. Many thanks need to be given to Janet Bloom from whose suggestion this day arose and whose support enriched the day. Thanks also to those who prepared and served our meal. But most of all, our thanks must go to God whose blessing has carried us to this day and to the faith of those who have gone this far and are with us to this day. May God s blessing extend to us all and lead us forward to the Lord s Great Day. 1 Ray Smith 20 Tim Grine 21 Thelma Wess 23 Nicholas Sirasky 26 Pam Sheets 30 Peggy Greene 14 Ernie & Shirley Carr
