1 United Methodist Church of Antioch Gratitude Sunday November 20, :00 & 10:30 am PRELUDE Concerto by Mozart Paige Kibbler ANNOUNCEMENTS *PASSING OF THE PEACE *HYMN Victory in Jesus #370 red *CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: We gather together to express our thanks to God with the assurance that time and eternity are under God s control. People: God has blessed us in many wonderful ways. We believe that God has many wonderful blessings still to show us. Leader: We thank God for sharing his Son Jesus Christ who thru His death removed our sin and freed us up to live in a spirit of thankfulness. People: May our spirits be filled with gratitude as we live out our days on this earth looking to the day when we shall meet our gracious Lord face to face. *OPENING PRAYER The world overwhelms us at times, Father God, with the tremendous power of sin, fear and death. By faith we look forward to a better life when we will be taken into your presence by Christ, our Redeemer. But in the meantime while here upon this earth, forgive us for our submission to the influence of sin in our lives. Fill us with love, forgiveness and hope. Draw us close to our Savior in trust and devotion that we may be able to live in gratitude and thanksgiving even now. Help us to remain firm in our loyalty to our Savior, Jesus Christ, through whom we pray. Amen. 3 TWO OFFERINGS WILL BE RECEIVED TODAY. The first will be the regular weekly offering received after the Morning Prayers. The second ingathering will be during the Closing Hymn. Please bring your Gratitude Card to the front of the Sanctuary and place it in the basket on the Chancel. The ushers will gather the cards of those who are unable to come forward. OUR CHURCH IS HOSTING the Tri Parish Community Thanksgiving Service this year (St. Ignatius, St. Stephen's, and UMCA). This service will be tonight at 7:00pm, fellowship & refreshments following the service. *Also- All are welcome to join the choir from all three churches at 6 pm for rehearsal. PASTOR BILL AND JO LANDIS WILL BE IN NEBRASKA AND IOWA over the Thanksgiving weekend. For a pastoral emergency please call Rev Rich Wagner of Lake Villa UMC or Rev. J. Sean Kim of Ingleside UMC. MIKE DEBENEDETTO WILL BE THE GUEST PREACHER for both services next Sunday, November 27. Mike is UMCA s Lay Leader, is in charge of Who s in the Pew Next to You, and makes awnings for area businesses. ADVENT WREATH LIGHTERS NEEDED! If you would like to help light the Advent Wreath, please sign up on the sheet in Wesley Hall. Candle lighters are needed for each worship service starting Sunday, November 27 thru and including both Christmas Eve Services at 7pm and 9pm. CAROLS AND CANDLES SERVICES on Christmas Eve. There will be two services: one at 7pm and one at 9pm on Sat. evening, Dec. 24. Christmas Day service is at 9:30am only. Pass this on to your friends. *PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN TIME for Staff Parish on Sat., Dec. 3 for Church Conference. The new time is 9:15am (not 10:00 am as previously noted). Church Conference is still meeting at the same time 10:30am. "ORGAN MELODIES FOR CHRISTMAS" will be performed free of charge on December 10th, 11am - 11:45am by Pam Martz. The total donated was $1, Pastor Bill s MODEL RAILROAD OPEN HOUSE, Saturday, December 10 - Pastor Bill s Model train layout is finally ready to see. His Open House for Antioch United Methodist Church folk and their families is scheduled for Saturday, December 10 from 12 Noon to 2:00pm. Due to the limitations of space in the parsonage basement and lack of parking, Pastor Bill will lead four 30-minute tours with up to 12 people on each tour. (There will be limited handicapped accessibility.) Reservations are required! Please sign up on the Model Train Open House Reservation Sheet located on the table in Wesley Hall. Grand Ave., Lindenhurst, is looking for volunteers for PADS Homeless Shelter Ministry on Friday nights; adult and youth group ages. 5 PRAYER SISTERS next meeting is off our usual schedule and will be on Tues., Dec. 6th, 7-8:30pm at St Stephen. We are going back to our DVD series on Women of the Bible and looking at the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus. All women from both of our congregations are invited to join us. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED as we form support groups to visit our homebound friends.
