1 ST PAUL S LUTHERAN PRIMARY SCHOOL, HENTY OUTLOOK: 35 11th November Lyne St (PO Box 73) HENTY NSW 2658 Ph: Fax: stpaulshenty@bigpond.com Web: Become a friend of the school on FACEBOOK! Principal: Bev McFarland Dip T, B.Ed Grad Cert. Bev s Banter With Remembrance Day today students from Year 6 led the school in a small but meaningful ceremony. The students did an excellent job leading and participating in the service. Thank you to families who were able to provide some flowers for the floral tribute. We were happy to welcome some parents and friends who were also able to attend today. Our captains, Max and Charlotte, represented the school at the wreath laying ceremony at the cenotaph. Thank you to Megan and her merry band of helpers who worked hard on Friday at the Fish and Chip night. I believe it was another success, and the disco was a big hit as well. Thank you to all involved. The raffle was also a big hit. Next Tuesday is the AGM for the P and F, along with a wine and cheese thank you evening. The school likes to thank all who have helped in the school throughout the year, in the classroom, for production, with reading, with interest activities. Your help is very much appreciated please come along on Tuesday evening, so we can say thanks. We have been excited this week to welcome Annie and Caleb for their Transition Days before starting kindergarten next year. It is a great program we can offer to new students as part of transition and learning about coming to school. We hope to see them a few more times before the year is out. Last Wednesday we hosted the AGM for the Bendigo Bank. Our captains, Max and Charlotte were asked to give a presentation on the school following the meeting. Previously they worked with Marnie, and developed an excellent powerpoint presentation, showcasing our excellent school. On the day, they did an outstanding job and were recognised by those present through their comments and genuine appreciation for their work. Well done Charlotte and Max, you were a credit to yourself, your families and the school. Last Friday our middle class performed their speech items at the Henty Library Redevelopment Opening, to a very appreciative audience. They did an excellent job. As part of the event, the winner of the naming of the owl was announced, along with the name- Owlbert. Two of our students will be recognised in our Friday assembly as runners-up in the competition. A number of events and dates to note are coming up, please keep up to date through our calendar. God Bless, Bev McFarland

2 Page 2 In the K-1 Classroom Each week is still packed to the brim. All students are making great progress with reading groups, showing good understanding of storylines and vocab. In Maths we are nearing the end of all strands. Many of the topics are now revision of learned strategies and facts, so students are completing activities with improved confidence and skill. This week started Transition Days with new Kinder s. So far Annie and Caleb have joined in on Monday s activities. Everyone really enjoyed having these visitors. In HSIE, Year 1 has investigated the needs of the transport industry and the Kinder class are focusing on our basic needs. We will also view videos of how the transport system interconnects. In Art we have been given a picture of ourselves CUT IN HALF. The CHALLENGE is to draw our other half. These will be displayed in the classroom to then go into our Portfolios. God Bless, Leticia O Brien Year Class Hello parents and carers of 2/3/4 to week 6. Students have been working on designing the Bush Produce Artwork. The theme for this year s piece is How did farmers help the soldiers during wars? We are concentrating on WW1. We have a fair amount of seed and grain from last year s work, but we may still require some items. We will have a better idea once the final design is decided. In Science students in Year 2 have been designing a piece of clothing suitable for a range of weather conditions. Years 3 & 4 have been identifying and classifying various materials. Their construction task with bridge building continues, too. In PDHPE the class has been interviewing the school to record injuries, locations and reasons for the injury. Students will collate and use this data to present a report to the principal. In Creative Writing students were given a visual stimulus of a shark swimming in a forest. Students have shown good improvement in their ability to construct a narrative with good use of paragraphs, punctuation and presentation. The itinerary for the camp is just about finalised. Notes should be out by Friday with all information. Up to February 2013, the Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA) Stamps for Missions, has raised over $351,750 and donated the proceeds to LCA Mission International programs and projects. This has been made possible due to the dedication of volunteers who collect, clean, package and sell the stamps.lca Stamps for Missions was established in 1938 through the efforts of Pastor Ted Koch and Ern Unger. Ern became the first Stamp Receiver and did this for the next 65 years, encouraging many others along the way. In 2014 LCA Stamps for Missions is sponsoring six Mission International projects which are based in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and two in Papua New Guinea. Please collect all of your used stamps and send them to school during November. Intensive Swimming Lessons Swimming lessons for all students will begin on Monday 24th November and will continue through that week on the 26th, 27th and 28th Nov. 5 Page 5 Pastor s message Every day is Remembrance Day for Christians. Today, many people all over the world, took time to stop and remember military men and women who fought, and especially those who died, for our countries in war. This is a good thing to do, because if you are honest, like me, for most of the other 364 days in the year you are probably not that mindful of these men and women. The way we usually remember is a minute in silence, attending a service, or even some time in prayer. But it seems to me that the effect of this remembering is often short lived. Come the next day, most people are not consciously mindful of the ANZACs. Remembering is a once a year event. In 2 Timothy 2:8 Paul commands Timothy (and all Christians) to; Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. What does Paul mean here by the word remember? Does Paul want Timothy and us to stop once in a while (maybe once a year) and have a minute silence? No. Does Paul want us merely to recall Jesus in our minds? No. To remember Jesus Christ involves thinking about Jesus, but it to goes beyond that. Remembering Jesus means a continuous, conscious orientation of your life. In other words, we are not just to remember Jesus once in a while, but continuously. He should always be at the forefront of our minds. And our lives should reflect our remembering as we strive to live lives of obedience to Jesus. Remembering implies living the way Jesus taught us to live. So how are you going at remembering Jesus? Do you remember him every now and then, without Him impacting your life? Or do you strive to remember Jesus often, with the desire to love Him, imitate Him, obey Him, serve Him and submit to Him? This is a major challenge, isn t it? Life is so busy. We are all time poor. There is so much to see and do. And when it comes to living out my faith, I can be pretty lazy. But it seems to me that remembering Jesus Christ may just about be the most important key to living the Christian life well. And the best way to do this is by opening up your Bible and prayerfully reading it. So remember Jesus: Lest We Forget. This Week: Pastor John Borchert from St. Paul s College was our guest in chapel. He shared with us an encouraging message based on the story of Job, reminding us that we can still be happy and have joy in the midst of struggles and tribulation. Pastor John usually visits us once a term for chapel, as part of our chapel exchange. Next Week: Chapel will be on Tuesday 18 th November at 9:20 am at St. Paul s Lutheran Church. Our bible story is Jacob s Ladder in Genesis 28, and our Bible verse of the week will be John 1:51: I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man. Coming up: Year 6 lead chapel on Tuesday 25 th November. The Combined School s Christmas service will be Tuesday 2 nd December at 12 noon. The following Tuesday (9 th Dec) will be the Closing service and Presentation night at 7.30 pm.
