OUTLOOK:26 Bev s Banter St Paul s Lutheran Primary School A PRIMARY SCHOOL OF THE LUTHERAN CHURCH OF AUSTRALIA : TH AUGUST 2012 What a great week! This year s Book Week was crammed full of fun and activities for all. The hat parade and reading afternoon was a tremendous success. There was such a lot of creativity on display with the variety of hats that were present. Well done to all for the effort in creating such masterpieces. A very sincere thank you is extended to the invited adults and students from the college who came to share their love of books and reading with the kids. A love of reading and books is such a precious gift that we can share and empower our children with. Thank you to staff for organising and coordinating the afternoon. And certainly a very BIG thank you to Mrs Zweck for organising and preparing the Book Fair! There was a huge amount of work involved in this, and the library looked fantastic. The children spent a great deal of time perusing and selecting purchases. Thank you to all who supported the Book Fair. The day has been hailed as our best ever!! Students in the lower and middle grades also ventured down to the town Library for some activities on Wednesday. We really enjoy the opportunity to be involved in activities like this. The Henty Library is currently running a Homework club for Primary School students on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:00. Tutors are present to assist children and the cost is $2 which covers afternoon tea. We have started our final round of Lunchtime activities this week, and they will run for another two weeks. Thank you to both Mrs Robyn and Mrs Doreen Armstrong for helping with Scrapbooking, and to Mr Adrian O Brien who filled in this week in Scouting About. Thanks must also go to Mr Cyril Lieschke who offered his services in collecting the stage extensions from Kooringal High School on Wednesday. We really appreciate this. Thank you. This week we had visits from Harold and the Life Education Van on Monday and the EnviroMentors on Friday. Both were great and engaging for the children and we certainly enjoyed learning from both of these visitors. Thanks to all who helped with the street stall last Friday. There was such a lot of produce available, and such a variety! Thanks especially to the brave, who withstood the arctic conditions, and continued to smile! The amount raised is a great testament to our parents and friends. Thank you. God Bless, Bev McFarland 34 Lyne St (PO Box 73) HENTY NSW 2658 Ph: Fax: stpaulshenty@bigpond.com Web: Principal: Bev McFarland Dip T, B.Ed
In the K-1 Classroom Wow!! What a week! This week certainly has been a busy one. Monday, under the guidance of Miss Habermann the students went and visited Harold in the Life Education Van. This was certainly an event they had been waiting for since witnessing his arrival late last week. We had kept our eyes peeled for a sneak sighting, but to no avail until Monday when we went into the van. Wednesday had us visiting the town Library to undertake some activities for Book Week. A very big thank you to Susan Kane for organising the day. We certainly enjoyed the morning and the books that she shared with us. Yesterday was fabulous! We had such a great time participating in the book week activities. And what an amazing effort with the hats! The day was certainly a lot of fun, and we look forward to checking out the joke books from the college. Our sound of the week was w worms out walking We had a wallet (no money) watches, wattle, a whale and Will, on the table, and a class full of Wallies for the week. Next week is y yabby yawning Despite the many activities we have still managed to work on subtraction and addition in Maths and we have begun some detailed illustrations to complement our beginning narratives. God Bless, Bev McFarland Father s Day Mini Olympics Thursday 30th August Dad s, come and spend the afternoon competing in the Non-traditional Mini Olympics 1:00pm BBQ Lunch 1:30pm Group Olympic Events RSVP by Tuesday 28th August Mums, please come along to help with lunch, cheering and first-aid!
Year 2-3 Class We have had a VERY full week!!! After watching Healthy Harold arrive the previous week, student s eager wait was over when we had our chance to see him and participate in the activities on keeping and maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle on Monday. We all got to say hello to Harold and left with a booklet to work on in class. We will continue to work on these and put them in our portfolios to take home at the end of the year. We also participated in EnviroMentors workshop which explored ways in which we use energy, renewable energy and materials and how we can better use waste materials. In Literacy we revised completed activities on the oi sound and drew pictures for our narratives. In Maths we have revised strategies to add and subtract using number lines, numeral expanders, the jump and the split strategy. We have also explored position. In HSIE we have finished our reports and will now use these to discuss possible solutions to the problems faced in Britain before This will lead us onto the First Fleet. To help celebrate Book Week, students walked down the Henty library. Susan read us 2 of the short listed books for the CBCA awards and we completed an activity that could win one lucky family a family pool pass for the Greater Hume Shire. Susan encouraged us to use the library and participate in the many exciting events they run. Included in this is a Homework Club on Wednesday afternoons in Henty and Tuesday s in Culcairn. We also participated in the Hat Parade, had a look at the Book Fair and listened to some great story tellers!!! Reminders; Students need to hand in their spelling homework every day!!! Handing it in first thing in the morning will avoid missing out on recess or lunchtime outside. God Bless, Leticia O Brien
Year Class This week in the 4/5/6 class we have been doing lots of Maths, like addition and subtraction. We also have been doing area. We learnt that Area = length x breadth. We have been learning how to edit better. With Miss Habermann we have been thinking of ways builders build energy efficient houses. On Wednesday and Thursday we had Mrs. Eime in our class to teach us because Mr. Hartwig had a tooth ache. We had lots of fun with Mrs. Eime. We played games like Mexican frogs and sequence. Healthy Harold came to our school to teach us about drugs and how they can be harmful to our bodies. The Year Sixes also got to see Healthy Harold s mansion. The hat parade was on Thursday. It was great! There were lots of awesome hats. Thank you to all the mums and dads who put in the effort to help with the hats. Tia Lieschke and Jamilla Eime Book Week Hat Parade What a wonderful day we all had yesterday!! A big thank you must go to all the children and their parents for the fantastic array of hats. I would also like to thank everyone, as the children really love having an audience. It was great to see that we nearly had 100% participation this year and this is what made it such an enjoyable afternoon, and made the job of the judges VERY hard. Winners : Kinder: Dustin : Mickey Mouse Year 1: Patrick : Can of Worms Year 2: Chelsea: Junie B Jones Year 3: Montanna: Alice in Wonderland Year 4: Elisha: Star Wars Year 5: Tyler: Diary of a Wimpy Kid Year 6: Vashti: Vegie Tales Well we did it!!! We reached our goal of $1000 sales and we re still counting. Again a big thank you and see you all next year. Debbie Zweck
Pastor s message Moses said to God, Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, What is his name? Then what shall I tell them? God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you. (Exodus 3:13-14) I AM WHO I AM. This is God's very own revelation of his name and of himself. These words are simple, but are filled with deep truth about God. I AM, God declares. He is a personal being, not an indefinite force or magical power somewhere out in nature. He is the living God in contrast to worthless, lifeless idols. God says, I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols (Isaiah 42:8). For the believer there is great aspiration for him: My soul thirsts for God, for the living God (Psalm 42:2). And for the impenitent sinner there is the warning: It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31). I AM, God declares. He is always the same, timeless, constant, and unchangeable. Moses wrote in Psalm 90: Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. God is the "I AM." He is dependable for he doesn't change in his goodness toward us. The Bible teaches: Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17). His mercy will not fail. The true, living God who demonstrated his love for us through his Son, asserts, "I the Lord do not change" (Malachi 3:6). There is another important thing which God reveals about himself in the name "I AM." The letters of the Hebrew root for the name "I AM" are the same letters used in the Hebrew word which is translated in our Bible as "LORD." This is the name God used for himself already in the announcement of the first promise of the Saviour to Adam and Eve. God is gracious and he is faithful to fulfill his promise of salvation. There was an incident in the life of Jesus which bears great significance in this respect. To the unbelieving Jews of his day, Jesus claimed that he was the eternal God saying that Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing his day. The Jews said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham!" "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" (John 8:57-58). Jesus is the eternal "I AM" who announced to our first parents that they would be rescued from sin, and who guided the course of the fulfillment of his coming through the whole time of the Old Testament. And then "I AM" stepped into time. By his suffering and death, he delivered us from slavery to sin and the power of the devil just as he promised. His name is the LORD! He is the I AM the living, eternal God who is faithful in his saving love for you! In his name, Pastor Adam Next week: Chapel is on Tuesday 28 th August, and our Bible verse of the week will be Mark 12:28-31: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength And our bible story will be Jesus response to the scribe s question, Which is the greatest commandment? Call News: Pastor Adam has received a call from Ocean Forest Lutheran Fellowship, Bunbury W.A. Please pray for Pastor Adam and family at this time.
