History At 5am on 11 November 1918, three German government representatives accepted the Armistice terms presented to them by an allied commander, General Foch of the French Army. The demands of the Armistice included the withdrawal of German forces to the east bank of the Rhine within 30 days; immediate cessation of warfare; and surrender of the German fleet and all heavy guns with no further negotiations until the signing of the peace treaty. The armistice became effective at 11am the same day, and as the guns fell silent on the Western Front in France and Belgium, four years of hostilities ended. The cease-fire was made permanent the following year when members of the Commonwealth and the League of Nations signed the Treaty of Versailles, people across the world celebrated the war's end - celebrations tempered by thoughts of the enormous suffering and loss of life resulting from the War. World War I began in 1914 and lasted for four years. More than 416,000 Australians volunteered for service in World War I. Of these, 324,000 served overseas. More than 60,000 Australians were killed, including 45,000 who died on the Western Front in France and Belgium and more than 8,000 who died on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. After the end of the Second World War, the Australian and British governments changed the name to Remembrance Day. Armistice Day was no longer an appropriate title for a day, which would commemorate all war dead. In October 1997 the then Governor-General issued a Proclamation declaring 11th November as Remembrance Day - a day to remember the sacrifice of those who have died for Australia in wars and conflicts. The Proclamation reinforced the importance of Remembrance Day and encouraged all Australians to renew their observance of the event. As a school community we will stop for a minute at 11.00am on Tuesday 11 th November.

2 IMPROVEMENTS FOR 2015 Our in-service day on the 18 th November will provide staff with the opportunity to review many areas of school life by listing strengths, concerns and recommendations for I would like to provide parents with the same opportunity to offer suggestions for improvement for I have listed some ideas of areas below that you may wish to comment on. Please complete the form below and return it to the school office by Friday 14 th November. Improvements for 2015 in the following areas of school life.. Areas you may wish to comment on may include: Camps, Sacrament program, Make Jesus Real, Homework, Excursions, Classrooms, Whole school events eg Resurrection Day, School Production, Whole School Masses etc, Father s Day/Mother s Day, Home Reading, Computers, Sports Program, Italian, Swimming, Portfolios, Afternoon Teas, Assembly, School App(phone), Newsletters, Webpage, What s on Board etc etc Parent suggestions for improvements for 2015 Please write any suggestions below that you may have to improve school life in 2015 (or principlal@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au) Term 4 In-service day Tuesday 18 th November (no children at school on this day) 2014 & 2015 ADVANCE NOTICE: School finishes for 2014 on Friday 19 th December at 1.00pm. Parent/Child/Teacher chats will be held on Thursday 29 th January 2015 for all families (more information to follow soon) School begins on Friday 30 th January, 2015 for Preps (only) Year 1-6 children begin on Monday 2nd February, Before and after School Care 2015 There will be a meeting on Thursday 4 th December beginning at 7pm for all parents who are considering having children in Before and After school in OSH Club offers online bookings and payments and a range of other services to ensure a great program is offered!

3 WORKING BEE We invite all Parents who have their eldest child in Prep or who have NOT attended one working bee this year to our next WORKING BEE, which will start at 8.30am on Saturday 29 th November. Remember, that working bees are a vital way of improving our school environment. There are many parents who, due to work and other commitments, cannot assist during our normal school week. Our working bees are a great opportunity to meet other parents and assist your child s school at the same time. We invite all families who have not attended one working bee this year to attend. To enable us to plan the work could you please indicate below if you are able to attend? The family are able to attend the working bee on Saturday 29th November. Dear Parents, On behalf of Father Noel and Resurrection School you are invited to attend a very special evening with Father Frank O Loughlin on Tuesday November 11th in the church at 7.15 pm. We are very fortunate to have him come to Resurrection. He is going to give a talk on the Eucharist and his talk is guaranteed to deepen your faith by expanding your understanding and appreciation of the power of symbols. He is a wonderful speaker and well known for his work on the Eucharist. This talk is an adult only (no children) Faith meeting and we especially invite you to take this opportunity to hear Father Frank. We hope that you mark this date in your diary and come along to hear this wonderful speaker. TERM 4 FEES RAFFLE WINNER Congratulations to the Gray Family who won our Term 4 Fee Raffle. 4 FUNDRAISING MEETING Please come along on Thursday 27 th November in the Community room at 9.00am (toddlers welcome) and join in our discussions for our final 2014 fundraising planning. We invite and would welcome any parents with an hour to spare to contribute to our 2014 fund-raising ideas. It is a great way to meet other parents and become involved in school life. All Welcome Year 3, 4, 5 AND 6 HEY GUYS, IT S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! SO GET YOUR DANCING SHOES AND GET READY TO GROOVE! WHEN: FRIDAY 14th OF NOVEMBER 2014 WHERE: RESURRECTION SCHOOL HALL TIME: 6:30 pm TO 8:30 pm COST: $6.00 ENTRY: BY TICKET ONLY (to be purchased prior to the disco) DJ Dino has been booked and is ready for you to groove to his hits. All you have to do is get permission from mum, dad or a guardian, a ticket order form was sent home last week. PRAYER Lord God, your own Son was delivered into the hands of the wicked, yet he prayed for his persecutors and overcame hatred with the blood of the Cross. Relive the sufferings of the innocent victims of war; grant them peace of mind, healing of body, and a renewed faith in your protection and care. Grant this through Christ our Lord. 5 CATHOLIC REGIONAL COLLEGE CAROLINE SPRINGS YEAR 7 PARENT INFORMATION EVENING Reminder to all Year 6 parents that there will be a Year 7, 2015 Parent Information Evening on Thursday 13 November at 7:00pm. This will be of benefit to you as important information will be discussed regarding uniforms, fees, booklists and other information to ensure a successful transition to secondary school for your child. This meeting is for parents only; children are not to attend. PARISH NEWS Sacraments Understanding the Symbols There is this Tuesday 11 November a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of Sacraments in general and Eucharist in particular. Fr Noel declared Fr Frank O Loughlin s talk on the Eucharist to the priests of Melbourne earlier this year as the best presentation on the Eucharist he had ever heard. We are indeed fortunate to have Fr Frank coming this Tuesday night at 7.15pm to give this talk. It is down to earth and deals with the symbols of water, bread and wine. What bread did Jesus hold up at the Last Supper? What did it represent? Who does not wish to deepen their understanding of the Eucharist? The opportunity is there for Resurrection parishioners this Tuesday 11 November at 7.15pm in our church. Fr Noel in Jail This Tuesday Fr Noel will be celebrating two Masses in Port Phillip Prison; there will therefore be a Communion Service instead of our regular 9.20am Mass. Parishioners are encouraged to come to the Communion Service and pray for the victims of crime, the prisoners and their families. Parish Ministries The November Big Bulletin included a list and description of our Parish Ministries. Every Resurrection parishioner is asked read the group descriptions and prayerfully consider in which ministry they will serve. Sign up will be in December. There is a ministry for you. Working Bee If you remember our September working bee was not well supported. Notwithstanding those who came achieved a lot. The next working bee is on Saturday 29 November between 8.30am and noon. At this working bee apart from the usual maintenance we prepare our church and grounds for Advent and Christmas. There is much to be done. Can you come? Please mark your calendar. Chewing Gum Please do not chew chewing gum in church and do not allow your children to do so. Even a casual look at the carpet, the concrete near the church doors or an inspection of the underside of the chairs will make the reason for this request clear.
