1 The Rosary 9 th December, 2016 Aspire, Believe, Achieve: Together in Christ Telephone: Infants: admin@rosary.hounslow.sch.uk Juniors: office@rosary.hounslow.sch.uk God of hope, you sent your Son Jesus to bring good news to people who are poor. Help us to be that good news, so that all people around the world can make a better life for themselves and their families. Amen. Weekly Prayer and Reflection 3 rd Sunday of Advent Gospel: Matthew 11:2-11 Reflection taken from Cafod Children s Liturgy John the Baptist, who we heard about last week, wants to make sure that Jesus is really the special person that he has been waiting for, so he sends some friends to check. Jesus answers them by telling them that he is the one who has come to heal the sick and to bring good news to the poor. This answer tells John that Jesus really is the person for whom he has been waiting. We are not able to heal the sick as Jesus did, but we can help other people. We are all part of one family, God s family, and God asks us to love each other and care for each other. But what does it mean to bring good news to people who are poor? Do you have any ideas? What can we do to help other people, either our friends, family, or people in other countries whom we have never met? People who are sick or who have hurt themselves? People who are hungry or thirsty? People who are poor? Loving God, we thank you for all the good things that you have given us. Help us to follow the example of Jesus, to care for others and to bring good news to people who are poor. Amen.
2 Carol Singing at Tesco 350 for school funds. The Rosary Choir spread good cheer at Tesco at Osterley on Wednesday where they entertained the shoppers singing carols. We would like to thank Tesco for allowing us to spend the morning there and for looking after us so well. We would also like to thank their customers for their generosity as we raised Catholic Children s Society Advent Carol Service On Wednesday we took 8 children from the school to Westminster Cathedral to take part in the annual Advent carol service. The occasion was truly a special one with many Westminster Catholic schools attending and participating in the service. The children were reminded by the Cardinal of the special message that Christ brings to us, both at the crib and on the cross. That message is that Jesus loves us very much and that we can carry His love for us to others through our own acts of kindness in our daily lives. 5A Class Mass We would like to thank Fr Robert and all the parents who came to 5A s Class Mass last Friday. It was lovely to see so many parents. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

4 What children do online and through Social Networking Children and young people go online to connect with friends, and make new ones, to browse the internet for information, chat with others and play games. They may: search for information or content on search engines like Google and Bing share images and watch videos through websites or mobile apps like Instagram, Pinterest, Vine and YouTube use social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter write or reply to messages on forums and message boards play games alone or with others through websites, apps or game consoles chat with other people through online games, BBM (Blackberry Messenger), game consoles, webcams, social networks and tools like Whatsapp When online, children and young people can learn new things, get help with homework, express themselves creatively and connect with friends and family. However, there are also risks. Keep your child safe online by understanding and talking about the dangers with them, being aware of parental controls, and by being vigilant about their online activity.
5 Talking to your child about staying safe online Explore sites and apps together Talk about what might be OK for children of different ages. Ask your child what sites or apps they like. Write a list, and look at them together. Be positive about what you see, but also be open about concerns you have: "I think this site's really good" or "I'm a little worried about things I've seen here". Talk to your child about what you think is appropriate but also involve them in the conversation. Ask what they think is OK for children of different ages they'll feel involved in the decisionmaking. Be aware that your child might talk about friends who use apps or visit sites that you've decided aren't suitable. Be ready to discuss your reasons, but recognise that they may not agree with you. Listen carefully for the reasons why. Go through a final list of sites that you both agree are acceptable and work out when you'll next discuss it.
