On my way home I acquired a large parcel of runner beans and a piesworth of Bramley apples. It is that time of year when boxes containing vegetables and fruit appear outside houses. Help yourself say the notices by their side - we have plenty so we can share with you is the message. And it seems that despite the heatwave we had earlier in the year, nature has still been generous to us. We will be giving thanks with our worship at the Harvest Family Service at St Barnabas on 16th September at 11 o clock and at the Harvest Communion service at Holy Trinity on 14th October at Everybody welcome. Very soon the golden mornings we have had recently will give way to darker ones as the winter months approach and nature prepares for her annual hibernation until spring comes again. September always signals transition in the lives of young people. Children are starting nursery or school for the first time, changing teachers, moving to secondary education, or going on to college or university, all with feelings ranging from excitement to trepidation! And in this parish there are changes too.

2 M two This month we are welcoming Rev Nigel Thomas and his wife, Nickie as Nigel takes his post as our new Team vicar, (hopefully without too much trepidation,) but sadly saying goodbye to Rev Warren Williams and his wife Diana as they leave Kingston Seymour to embark on a new challenge - that of retirement! We wish those both young, and more mature, who are experiencing September changes, well and hope that they settle happily in their new situations. Ed Holy Trinity clean up Holy Trinity is always neat and clean thanks to the volunteers on the weekly cleaning rota. However, to make the church look amazing for Nigel s licensing we are asking for as many people as possible to come to the church for one hour only on Saturday 15th September from Bring your dusters and spend a happy hour cleaning and polishing to make the church look really special for Nigel's licensing on Monday. The more the merrier many hands make clean church! St Barnabas./Claverham news St Barnabas Harvest Festival is on 16th September at 11am followed by Harvest Lunch at the at the Village Hall at for 1pm. Tickets for the lunch are available from Derek, (838007) or Jean, ( ) at 5, under 5yrs free. Claverham Market this month will be on Saturday 15th September at the Village Hall. The St Barnabas cake stall will be there and Trevor s plant stall to brighten your borders as well as a wide selection of other stalls and refreshments. Ladies' Guild takes place every 1st Thursday in the month, in the Free Church Hall at 2pm. We have a variety of speakers for three quarters of an hour then tea and cake. 3 entry, and we are a very friendly group! Jean Watson

3 M three Lunch Group outing. The Lunch Club went out on an outing to Abbey Mill, Tintern on Arrival time for this ever popular event will be 7.15pm, with the meal being served at 7.30pm. We hope to have Nigel and Nikkie joining us for their first experience of a Cleeve Harvest Supper. 18th August. It was a beautiful day and we had a delicious lunch. Everybody enjoyed themselves in There will be the usual mixture of a brilliant two course meal, a glass, or maybe three, of the secret recipe local punch, plus tea/coffee, with a guaranteed evening of great company, fun and lots of entertainment. Tickets are 7 adults, 4 children and are available from Lin on this beautiful location. Thanks to everyone involved in organising the trip. Brenda Smith Holy Trinity Church Harvest Supper Holy Trinity s Harvest Supper for 2018 will be held in Cleeve Village Hall on Friday 12th October. St Nicholas Brockley Harvest Euchharist is at 6.15 pm on Sunday September 30th. St Nicholas Patronal Service, Brockley is on December 2nd at 6.15pm. All are welcome. Marianne

4 M four Remembrance Day Sunday 11th November 2018 will mark the centenary of the end of the Great War. At Holy Trinity we would like to remember people from all walks of life who served their country at home and on active service. A selection of photographs with accompanied written accounts will be arranged in the church and the church room as part of our service of remembrance. If you know of someone, a relative, a neighbour, a friend who had a role to play or a story to tell please get in touch with me. Hopefully these tributes will help us to personalise past and present conflicts and their ramifications on families and to pay our respects to all those who have made possible the freedom which we in this country enjoy today. June Richards Help create a big stir for Macmillan nurses. Join the World's Biggest Coffee Morning I am sure that most Messenger readers know that The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is one of the largest fundraising events in the UK, having started in This year it is estimated that over 3 million people will be raising their mugs for Macmillan Nurses. We are supporting the Macmillan Nurses appeal again this year with a Coffee Morning at 40 Cleeve Drive on Wednesday 26th September from 10am to Noon. Our event last year raised over 330, one of thousands of events that helped to reach a total of 27million in It would be great if you could come along in additional to tea/coffee and a good chat, there will be a raffle, bring n buy and a delicious cake stall.

5 If you would like to help Macmillan Nurses but cannot attend on the day, a raffle prize, something for the bring n buy or a cake would be very much appreciated. I would be grateful if you could ring me if you can help in any way. Diana BINGO EVENING M five A date for every Messenger reader s diary - the FOCOS Bingo Evening is Friday at CLEEVE VILLAGE HALL. This is our main fundraiser to provide the cash for the annual Christmas Party. As ever at a FOCOS Bingo Evening there will be good food, great prizes and a guaranteed fun evening. A bar will be available for the evening at the hall. Tickets are 8 to include a hot supper and a sweet, plus 6 games of bingo. Every game has great prizes for a line and a full house. Transport is available, so you can have a relaxing evening and maybe a glass or two of something alcoholic to enjoy just ask - so no one has an excuse for non attendance! 8 M eight Cleeve Local History afternoon Holy Trinity. 2pm at Rachel Kew, Sarah Cush and Catherine Hunt are organising a display of old photographs and information exploring the history of Cleeve and the local area. If anyone has any photos or information they would be willing to share they would love to hear from them. Please contact Rachel Refreshments will be available and everybody welcome. Traidcraft There will be a Traidcraft stall at the Cafe Celebration service at Court de Wyck school on the 30 th September and at Holy Trinity Cleeve following the Service on 7th October.
