1 Ephesians 4: but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head Christ 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. Term 4 Week 5 11 November 2016 Our Vision To foster a Christ centred learning community where all students receive an education which enables them to know the Lord Jesus Christ, grow in Him and serve Him to their full potential. Pray for the interviews for replacement staff for 2017, that we will know which staff God is calling to our community. Counting our Blessings. On my recent trip to Europe as part of my long service leave, I was struck by the wonderful blessings we have in this country. It seemed like every town or city had been invaded, suffered oppression, war, civil war, starvation or epidemic on a regular basis. I started to wonder whether they needed monuments to the good times. It is hard to comprehend the level of suffering that has gone on over the past 1000 years and even large parts of the world today are experiencing significant suffering and devastation. I get frustrated if I have to queue at traffic lights or if nothing interesting is on television. It was a great time to reflect on what my ancestors went through. It has help me refocus on the continued blessings I receive daily. It then allows me to live a joyous life, even when suffering occurs. In previous generations, when suffering was rife, people often were able to maintain their faith and often it was their faith that sustained them. The time away helped me to grow an additional appreciation of what it means to be called to teach in a Christian school. We have the freedom, as well as the support of the government, to tell the Good News to our students and families. By learning how to identify and count our blessings, we are able to rise above our trials and tribulations. While life wasn t meant to be easy, we can experience a victorious life because circumstances don t define the Christian life and journey. Philippians 4:19King James Version (KJV) 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. James 1:17King James Version (KJV) 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 2 Samuel 22:3-4New International Version (NIV) 3 M God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my saviour; from violent people you save me. 4 I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and have been saved from my enemies. Gary Brummell

4 YEARS 5-6 GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM PRIMARY NEWS On Monday, 7 November the Year 5/6 Girls Basketball Team attended the Gala Day out at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium. The team consisted of Juliet, Faithlove, Essence, Hannah, Joy A, Sade, Kaylee, Anna G, Anna K and Joy T. The girls played really well and I was very pleased at how their skills improved throughout the day. We won 1 game and 2 of the other 3 games were very close, only losing by a couple of points. We had a wonderful day and I was so proud of how the girls represented RPCS. A very big thank you to Mr Jamieson who drove the bus and did the scoring for our team. Mrs Bywater On Monday, 7 November the Senior Boys and Girls Primary Basketball Teams competed at the CSSA State Gala Day. Here is a brief summary of how each team went: The boys were in a tough pool but competed exceptionally well. The first game was a nail-biter and went to the last second, but we came out on top We won 3 games out of 4 and were close to qualifying for the semi-finals, but missed out on having more points than another school. Special mention must go to the MVP (Most Valuable Player), George Al-Dalawi, who scored the majority of the points and was sensational with rebounding and passing in every game. Well done to all of the boys for such an outstanding team effort! Mr Jennings CRUNCH n SIP & LIVE LIFE SCHOOL Good nutrition and healthy eating habits are an important part of learning. Each morning our students enjoy Crunch n Sip, when they have a drink of water and eat a serving of fresh fruit or vegetables. We ask parents to support this by providing your child with a serving of fresh fruit or vegetables for their Crunch n Sip break as well as a drink bottle filled with water.

5 SUMMER UNIFORM Thank you for ensuring that your child is now wearing the summer uniform. POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING (PBL) VALUE: Follow teacher instructions The next fortnight, our focus will be on showing respect by Following teacher instructions. We honour those in authority by listening to them and then doing what they ask us to do. As parents, we can model obedience to our children by showing them how we obey God s Word. As well, by training our children to do what we ask, we are discipling them to then obey God. PRIMARY PRESENTATION ASSEMBLY 25 NOVEMBER On the morning of 25 November we will be holding our Presentation Assembly. It will run like our normal assembly but will go from 9-10am. During this time, student achievement K-6 will be recognised, with some of our students presenting special items. PRIMARY CELEBRATION - 25 NOVEMBER - EVENING GO! GO! JONAH! On 25 November, we will be having our Primary Celebration Evening. On this evening we present our Primary Musical, reflect upon the school year, celebrate some special achievements and farewell our Year 6 students. It is a lovely opportunity to celebrate our community. For our musical, we are asking all students in Kindergarten - Year 5 to wear a plain blue top (i.e. T-shirts, blouses, polo shirts) in any shade of blue but with no writing or images. They can wear jeans or dark trousers, shorts or skirts. They should wear their black school joggers or school shoes. Some Year 6 students may be asked to wear black tops or trousers if they are helping with staging. Any other special needs for students in Year 6 will be met by the school. More information about the evening, will be sent home shortly. PRIMARY ASSEMBLY Each Friday (9-9:30am) we hold our Primary Assembly in the school hall. This is a time when our Primary classes come together to celebrate God s goodness. Parents are welcome, particularly when your child s class is rostered to share in Assembly. Stage 2 will be our last Stage to present what they have been learning this term. Their assembly will be on 11 November. 6 YEAR 9 AT THE SYDNEY JEWISH MUSEUM SECONDARY NEWS On Friday, 21 October, Year 9 had the great opportunity to study the history of WWII and witness a holocaust survivor share her testimony. The day started off early but everyone was excited to find out what was waiting for them in the future. Once we arrived at the museum, we were led to a room where we were fortunate enough to meet Gertie, a holocaust survivor, where she expounded her first-hand knowledge of the endeavours people experienced. We were also privileged to see their wonderful collection of letters from WWII. At the end the day, we stopped at Hungry Jacks. Overall we learned abundantly and had a fabulous time. Yolanda Luchko CONGRATULATIONS Glen Odang (Year 11) has been awarded a Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute Award for School Science. Victor Chang was a gifted Australian surgeon who did a lot of pioneer work in heart surgery, particularly with heart transplants. The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute was started after his death, as a way of remembering him and continuing the work that he began. As well as their work in cardiac research, the Victor Chang Institute has an interest in promoting scientific research more generally and promoting an interest in science. Each year they invite schools to nominate one student from Year 11 to receive an award. This student must show an interest in Science and a desire to pursue tertiary studies in Science. Glen is studying all three sciences physics, chemistry and biology, and performing at a very high standard in each subject. The awards were presented at Bankstown library by Prof. Sally Dunwoodie from the VCCRI. Mrs White, Mr Black and Miss Soliman attended to represent the school.
