LANGUAGE ARTS demonstrate multiple strategies to read grade level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression. identify, analyze, and apply knowledge of elements of a variety of fiction and non-fiction, informational, and expository tests. understand comprehension techniques by predicting outcomes, drawing conclusions, summarizing, sequencing, and identifying and using main idea/details, and cause and effect read a variety of books and prepare a variety of reports on them using PowerPoint presentations, book boxes, poems, etc. write for a variety of purposes: to entertain, persuade, and inform. prepare for writing by focusing and regrouping ideas and identifying the purpose for writing. demonstrate a logical pattern of writing using beginning, middle, and conclusion with transitional devices. use organized plan of development for creative, informative, and persuasive writing. revise and edit using appropriate word choice, correct subject/verb agreement, correct verb/noun form, complete sentences, a variety of sentence structures, conventions of punctuation, capitalization and spelling. publish a legible document in cursive writing. apply standard spelling in published work. understand the power of language and use a variety of ways to convey a message. make formal and informal oral presentations for a variety of purposes, audiences, and occasions, demonstrating appropriate language choices, body language, eye contact, gestures, and appropriate use of available technologies. use listening strategies such as making eye contact, facing speaker, paraphrasing what is said and asking questions. respond to non-verbal cues and identify main ideas in a variety of non-print media: television, videos, advertising, and works of art. determine and use the appropriate digital tools for publishing and presenting a topic such as word processing, multimedia authoring, web tools, etc.

SCIENCE describe the basic needs of animals. explore the relationships of the ecosystem in the living and nonliving world. describe the relationship between work and energy. explain how animal adaptation, behavior, and body structure help meet their needs. classify all living things. explain characteristics of different animal groups.

4 know the organs and functions of the respiratory, and circulatory systems. know health measures that prevent or fight disease. understand the harmful effects of nicotine, alcohol, and other drugs. explore properties of matter and how they change. classify kinetic and potential energy. explore and create experiments discovering force and energy. describe the relationship between heat and temperature and the methods of heat transfer. understand the Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature scales. describe and classify the various minerals, and rocks. explore and discover the property of rocks through hands-on experiments. understand the importance and properties of air in relationship to weather and climate. understand that the sun s heat on Earth s atmosphere effects the changes in weather and temperature. investigate changes in weather by measuring air pressure, wind speed, and direction. know the amount of sunlight and the tilt of the Earth s axis effects seasonal weather changes and climate differences. use the scientific processes and habits of mind to solve problems. demonstrate appropriate safety procedures during science activities. SOCIAL STUDIES Time Continuity And Change - History understand historical chronology and the historical perspective. use a variety of methods and sources such as reading and interpreting letters, newspapers, maps, and graphs to understand history. knows difference between primary and secondary sources. understands broad categories of time in years, decades, and centuries. understands the world from its beginnings to the time of the Renaissance. Such as significant scientific and technological achievements, developments in transportation and communications, different laws and systems of government. understand Western Civilization since the Renaissance. knows significant people and their contribution in communication and technology. knows development in humanities, laws and government. understands the geographic, economic, political, and cultured factors in U.S. History to knows significant social and political events that led to American Revolution, historical documents, Civil War, and Reconstruction. understand U.S. history from 1880 to present day including immigration, World War I, Great Depression, and World War II.

CIVICS AND GOVERNMENT identifies structure and function of local, state, and federal governments under frameworks of Constitutions of Florida and the United States. understands structure, functions, and primary responsibilities of executive, legislative, and judicial branches of governments. knows names of representatives at local, state, and national levels. understands role of citizen in American democracy such as personal and civic responsibility. knows that a citizen is a legally recognized member of the United States who has certain personal, political, and economic rights, privileges, and responsibilities. ECONOMICS understands how scarcity requires individuals and institutions to make choices about how to use resources; understands basis of credit, consumer rights, earning income, and budget.. understands characteristics of different economic systems and financial institutions. knows government provides some goods and services through taxing and borrowing.
