1 Good News from St. Nicholas Episcopal Church April 9, 2017 Holy Week Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names. Phil. 2: 9 Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday. The day we remember Jesus triumphal journey into Jerusalem before His crucifixion. When the disciples saw the enthusiastic crowds, they brought a donkey for Jesus to ride on, while the people spread their cloaks and through branches from the trees. Hosanna! Hosanna to the Son of David. Palms from ancient times were symbols of victory and triumph. Maundy Thursday represents Jesus Passover meal with His disciples. Maundy is derived from the Latin word for "command," and refers to Jesus commandment to the disciples to "Love one another as I have loved you." (Service at 7 pm) Good Friday Services: Noon: Stations of Cross 6:00: Drama & Communion Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corth. 15: 57 Good Friday 1

John 12: 26 Desserts anyone? It s Panda Express day at Loaves and Fishes! Tina makes her wonderful Teriyaki Chicken. Jan and Suzanne have been serving our meal guests faithfully for seven years. Thank you Jan & Suzanne! Thursday night was homemade meatloaf! We are so grateful for a past church member who donated $400 of groceries including ground beef. Everyone was blessed. Great job to Kevin our cook in the kitchen! A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11: 25 3

4 New Bible Study after Easter Introduction to Doctrine Biblical Doctrine is truth revealed from Scripture regarding God, His ways and His purposes. Doctrine comes from the Bible itself. We receive clarity in Scripture concerning God s teachings. Led by Greg Zucco, Tuesday s 6:00 to 8:00 beginning April part class, No book, but handouts provided. Mutual accountability & prayer. Legacy Stewardship workshop May 10 Vestry meeting. All are welcome. 6 to 8 pm Seven Spiritual Habits Class Sunday, April 23 12:00 to 2:00 pm Taught by Marnie Smith What are our core longings? We can meet our core longings with spiritual habits! We open up Confirmation class this day to any other members of our church family who would like to learn more about these spiritual habits: 1-Time in God s Word 2-Prayer/Fasting 5-Tithing 3-Worship 6-Serving in Ministry 4-Fellowship 7-Sharing Your Story

5 If we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another. 1 John 1: 7 We made chili and entered into a St. Nicholas Chili Cook Off. We used our secret recipes! March 12 was great fellowship! Thank you to our chili makers! This is the best chili cook off St. Nicholas has had yet! St. Nicholas Financial Report March: Total pledged amount received thru March: $7,908. Budgeted pledge income for March: $9,417. Year-to-Date: Total pledged amount received thru March: $22,367 Budgeted pledge income thru March: $28,250 As indicated by these figures, our parish is struggling to meet our financial commitments. Please check to determine if your donations are current. We are grateful to those who are current in your donations and faithfully support our ministry. 5

6 When Jesus Prays for Your Faith The doctrine of Christian Assurance is the biblical teaching that Jesus continues to pray for us at the right hand of the Father My dear children...we have a friend who speaks to the Father for us. He is Jesus Christ, the Blameless One. 1 John 2: 1-2 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Heb. 7: 25 Remember that Judas and Peter both betrayed Jesus. Jesus prayed for Peter: I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. When you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. Lk. 22: 32 Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. 1 Thess. 5: 11 Carrie Love-Conn is now employed at Atria Senior Living in Paradise! I work nights from 10 p.m to 6:30. I thank God for this job! I love my job. It is very easy to get close to your residents. When residents can t sleep, I get to go in and visit with them and learn more about their lives. I am able to pray with some residents which is deeply rewarding.
