Baptismal preparation classes are offered on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Parents are encouraged to attend the 10:30 AM mass on the 2nd Sunday and the preparation class will follow the mass in the Rectory. All couples seeking to baptize a child must attend the class. Baptisms are preformed on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month at 2PM. Marriages The prospective bride and groom should discuss details of the marriage with one of the priests of the parish at least six months prior to the date of the wedding. 7 Page 7 Our Lady of Lourdes Parish JANUARY 6, 2019 From the Our Lady of Lourdes Department of Religious Education Week Thirteen: Wednesday January 9 or Saturday January 12 Sunday, January 13: Level 8 Family Mass at 10:30am. Meet in the reserved section on the right side of the church at 10:15am. Students must sign in with a teacher. This is a required activity for Confirmation preparation. Thursday, January 17: Catechist (teacher) Retreat with Monsignor Lisante In the Chapel at 7pm followed by light refreshments and fellowship. All catechists are expected to attend. Friday, January 25: Deadline for students in 7 th through 12 th grade to participate in the Diocesan Respect Life Youth Contest. Information was distributed to our Level 7 and 8 students in November. Please contact our office (516) if you have questions or need guidance with the entry process. Sunday, January 27: Level 4 Family Mass at 10:30am. Meet in the reserved section on the right side of the church at 10:15am. Students must sign in with a teacher. Tuesday, January 29: Level 2 MANDATORY Communion Parent Meeting with Monsignor Lisante at 7pm in the Church. Think First and Stay Safe safety presentation during class time. Parents are welcome to attend. Levels 3 and 4: Wednesday, January 23 or Saturday, January 26 Levels 5 and 6: Wednesday, February 6 and Saturday, February 9 Father Kevin Thompson stopped by to teach some of our younger students about Advent/Christmas, and to answer their questions about the faith. Prior to Christmas Break, Miss Margaret Hans Level 4 Saturday class painted plaster angel ornaments, which they will give to their loved ones to spread the spirit of Christmas. As they painted the angels, they talked about the first Christmas, and discussed ways to spread God s love throughout our community. Our Level 8 catechists presented an Advent/Christmas prayer service to our older students. The theme of the service was to let Jesus, the Light of the World, break through the darkness in our own lives. The students reflected on the ways they are being called to bring the light of Jesus to others. The service concluded with a guided meditative prayer based on the first chapter of Luke s gospel.

Learn more about his spiritual devotion and becoming connected through prayer. Join Fr. Andiy Egargo in this prayerful journey. Next prayer group is Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 7:00pm. Prayers will start in Room 24 of the school. There will be a talk of St Pio and how we can connect spiritually. Benediction follows at 7:45 in the chapel.

As you know, we help many of these folks with the basic need of good nutritious food. Because so many of you care so much and have extended a helping hand, we hope to be able to continue to do so in the coming new year! Please continue to be as generous during the winter months. The most valuable gifts we can give are those that come from the heart. The precious gifts of our time, love and compassion are especially needed during the time of the loss of a loved one. Created to provide warmth, caring and personal attention to assist families in preparation for the funeral Mass, this particular ministry can never have too many helping hands. Whether your interest be that of a Greeter, Lector or EM, please give some thought as to sharing your time and talents and being a part of this ministry s call to love and care for one another. We Care Blankets As our wonderful group of Care Blanket volunteers continue to meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-11:30am at Parish Outreach, the gifts of their love, time and talent in crocheting and knitting beautiful blankets for seriously ill children is nothing less than a beautiful thing! Since our group began in November 2009, the completed blanket count stands at 3,379. I m sure in no time at all we will be adding to this amazing number. Thank you to our lovely group of ladies for all the good work you do to bring love and comfort to many children undergoing cancer care. Outreach is happy to accept donations of crochet hooks, and is especially in need of acrylic yarns in support of this effort. Our Lady of Lourdes parish is sponsoring a bus trip on Friday, January 18 th in response to the tragedy of abortion. The bus will leave early Friday morning from the parish parking lot and will return that same evening at approximately 10 PM. The March is an opportunity to be part of a prayerful, peaceful, and beautiful witness to the value and dignity of each human life. Donations are requested, and seating is limited. The Massapequa Park Respect for Life Committee will once again participate in the March for Life. Please join us in this effort.
