1 The Monthly Messenger A Note From The Pastor... Just a couple months ago I wrote about resolutions. Being committed to them brings about transformation. Along with Easter, the day after this month ends, we ll see transformation in sooo many ways. The trees will start budding. The flowers will begin to sprout out of the ground. The weather will start getting warmer. However, old man winter will make many attempts to keep holding on to prevent all of this from occurring. It kind of reminds me about how the scribes, the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the devil tried to prevent Jesus from fulfilling God s plan BUT they couldn t!!! Just like Spring will overcome winter, the Bible says we are overcomers/ conquerors as well through Jesus, who provides us transformation power through the Holy Spirit. And, interestingly enough, this year St Patrick s Day falls on Saturday and he helped explain the work of the Trinity through the shamrock, which Dalton United Methodist Church MARCH 2018 blooms in the Spring. Sooo, we need to allow the power of the Holy Spirit to transform us, so that the love of Jesus will bloom in our lives God Bless, Pastor Dave

And even in Oklahoma. They are holders of many awards in the field of puppetry. Free will offering will be taken. Issue 3 Page 5
6 News from the United Methodist Women So many things are happening in March. Daylight savings time begins Sunday, March 11, St Patrick s Day the 17 th, the first day of spring Tuesday the 20th, Palm Sunday the 25th, Maundy Thursday the29th, and Good Friday is on the 30 th. Of course, the first day of April is Easter Sunday. ONE MORE IMPORTANT EVENT FOR YOU TO ADD TO YOUR CALENDAR IN MARCH IS UMW SUNDAY ON MARCH 18; THE GUEST SPEAKER WILL BE BRIAN ZIEGLER. Brian is an inspirational speaker. He was severely injured in a car accident and is now a pastor for startup churches. He wrote a book titled Paralyzing Redemption. Come on the 18 th and hear Brian s message of healing and God s word. FOLLOWING THE CHURCH SERVICE THE UMW WILL BE HOSTING A LIGHT LUNCH SERVED IN THE FELLOWSHIP HALL FOR EVERYONE. THE LUNCH WILL CONSIST OF SOUPS, BREAD AND DESSERTS. SOUNDS LIKE A TIME TO RELAX, ENJOY GOOD FOOD AND VISIT WITH FRIENDS. COME AND ENJOY! I want to remind you TUESDAY, APRIL 24 AT 7:00 PM IN THE SANCTUARY ADDY FLETCHER WILL BE SPEAKING ABOUT AUTISM AWARENESS. ADDY IS THE PARENT MENTOR OF OHIO TRI-COUNTY EDUCATIONAL SERVICES CENTER. ALSO REMEMBER THE ALL-DAUGHTER TEA ON SATURDAY, MAY 12 2:00 PM. These are two special events for all the ladies of the church, one to share fellowship and learn about autism and the other a time to celebrate. The UMW s meeting on Tuesday, February 20 th was very interesting. Joellen Fone told us about foster parenting. Did you know in the United States every two minutes a child is put into foster care? Joellen told us what is involved in becoming a foster parent. Because of all of the schooling, rules and regulations, there really has to be a total commitment and a strong desire if you want to become one. There is a need for good foster parents because so many children are being put into the system. It is truly a blessing how Joellen and her husband, Eric Fone and her mother, Judy Harbaugh, give of themselves to help children in need. Since spring will be starting soon the first poem has that in mind. The second two are about Easter because till I write to you again Easter will be over. I hope you find them rewarding as you read them. I WALKED WITH GOD by Russell T. Brown I walked today where God had walked, out on a wooded hill, And heard the words that Nature spoke where all the world was still. I saw God lay His gentle hand on Mother Nature s brow, And things that once were cold and dead are green and lovely now. I stopped to watch a happy brook go babbling on its way, And heard a songbird giving thanks that life was his today. I saw a giant oak tree stretch its boughs to heaven above, As if to cover all below with God s abiding love. I said a prayer to God today--a prayer of thanks that He Created, oh, such wondrous things for common folks like me. Page 6 The Monthly Messenger
7 IF THERE WERE NO EASTER by A. I. Marks How would it be, if I had to go into the dark, alone? What would I do, if the Lord had not made my last pathway known? How would it be, if the Lord had not fashioned a place for me? What would I do, should His love not last throughout eternity? How would it be, if I could not greet Him, and my loved ones, there? What would I do, if it could not be He is my answered prayer? How would it be, had He not assured--so I could always know? If it were not as I promised you, I would have told you so! I read this little story which really tells the story of Easter through a child s eyes. Years ago in a big city a man was walking down a street when he saw in a store front window a very beautifully painted picture of the crucifixion. As he gazed, spellbound at the vividly pictured story, he suddenly became aware that at his side stood a young boy. The boy also was gazing at the picture and he knew from the expression on his face it gripped the boy s little soul. Together they both stared at the picture of The Crucifixion. Then the man asked the boy, Do you know what it means? Don t you know? the boy replied, his face full of the marvel of the man s ignorance. That man is Jesus and the others are Roman soldiers, and the woman crying is His mother, and he added after a thoughtful pause, They killed Him. The man hated to leave the window, but he had an appointment and had to get going. In a few moments he heard footsteps from behind and there came the boy rushing up to him. Say, Mister, he exclaimed breathlessly, I forgot to tell you, but He arose! Amen to that. What wonderful words, He arose! Pray for each other during this Lenten season. Beth Johnson UMW Newsletter Contributor Nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us. (Romans 8:39 TLB) Issue 3 Page 7
