1 PRAYER DIARY A daily prayer guide for the work of The Faith Mission DECEMBER MARCH 2019 The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have prepared the light and the sun. you have set all the borders of the earth; You have made summer and winter. Psalm 74:16,17

2 A WORD FROM THE BIBLE COLLEGE PRINCIPAL It is a dark and rainy November day here in Edinburgh. It s winter! This is not a time that I particularly relish. Apart from an occasional trip to the ski slopes, I prefer the freshness of spring and the warmth of summer. However, winter comes every year without fail, whether I like it or not. The grey skies and the cold days are not an accident, nor are they a mistake of nature. Instead, they are part of God s design for creation. Winter is an important season, a period of rest for the earth. The writer of Ecclesiastes states that: for everything, there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven. In Psalm 147:17 the cold of winter is described as the Lord s cold. As you read this, you may feel that it is winter in more ways than one. Dark and difficult seasons have descended unexpectedly, not to mention the changing spiritual landscape that is called society. Yet none of this has caught God by surprise and His plan is still intact (see Ephesians 1:11). The good news is that it is possible to stay warm and bright even in winter. Our faith-filled love for God can continue to be kindled by the Word, and the flames of prayer that rise up toward heaven from needy hearts can still warm the soul. It takes work to keep a house warm. If you heat your house with solid fuel, then trees need to be cut, logs need to be split and fires need to be kept stoked. It also takes work to stay aglow spiritually. The Bible needs to be read and pondered in a thoughtful and engaging way. Time for meaningful communion and conversation with the Lord needs to be carved out of our daily routines. Opportunities for fellowship with the Lord s people need to be cultivated and enjoyed. The dividends of this hard work make winter bearable. Warmth and light make grey skies and dark days more tolerable and sometimes even joyful. The work of keeping our spiritual lives warm is equally as rewarding. The darkness of difficult circumstances and the grim state of society can all become bearable when we experience the warmth of heaven on earth. How tedious and tasteless the hours, When Jesus no longer I see! Sweet prospects, sweet birds, and sweet flow rs, Have lost all their sweetness to me. The mid-summer sun shines but dim, The fields strive in vain to look gay; But when I am happy in Him, December s as pleasant as May. 3 MISSION NEWS POINTS FOR PRAYER AND PRAISE We value prayer for a number of personnel changes currently underway. For personal reasons Kyan & Clair Frith concluded their ministry with the Mission on 30 September. However, they are caretaking the Centre at Harby through until the end of 2018 to allow time for their replacements to be appointed. In addition, Andrew & Barbara McIlroy recently indicated their intention to withdraw from the Mission at the end of the year. We are grateful to both these couples for their commitment to ministry with the Mission and trust they will know God s rich blessing as they move on. They will appreciate prayer as they and their families adjust to these changes. Timothy & Emma Condy s departure to The Faith Mission (in Canada) during the summer left a huge gap in the North Irish District. Jim & Hilda Lyons have agreed to take oversight of the District from January through to the end of July 2019 and The Faith Mission Board and Council will appreciate prayer as they decide who to appoint to this District from next August onwards. Decisions are also to be finalised regarding who should take responsibility for Harby Centre in the new year and some key leadership appointments created by the retirements taking place next summer. In October Stephan Dundas, who has served on our Bookshop staff in Northern Ireland for nine years, was appointed as the regional manager of the Northern Ireland Bookshops. He will fulfil this role as a missionary member of the Mission and he and his family will appreciate prayer for the changes and challenges this will no doubt bring. We are delighted that former Bible College students Stewart and Jill Megaw are to join the College staff as maintenance manager and house manager respectively. They and their daughters will appreciate prayer as they sell their house in Canada and relocate to Edinburgh early next year. WILLIAM & CAROLYN HARRISON write of blessing We rejoice in God s presence and blessing at the recent men s and ladies events. The men s Recharge weekend in September was a time of rich fellowship and blessing and really appreciated by all who attended. We took some time out on Saturday afternoon to enjoy the scenery and do a little off-roading through the beautiful Galloway countryside. For some in particular it was a very timely occasion. God ministered to us all through the challenging and practical application of the Word brought to us to us by Garry Tutty throughout the weekend. We had a very blessed time at our ladies day of ministry and fellowship in November, with thirty-six attending, a number joining with us for the first time. A wide range of needs and situations were represented. The ladies enjoyed some time to do Christmas crafts, chat together and drink coffee in the afternoon! Linda Townend brought very challenging and anointed ministry in the two sessions as she spoke on Mary, the mother of Jesus, focusing on her life and her song. It was a day of fellowship, sharing, fun an opportunity to come apart and take time out of busy lives. We are already planning for next spring s events. Thank you for your fellowship and support in prayer. e John Townend

4 DONNIE & CATHERINE MACLEOD share of gospel impact in the Highlands and Islands POINTS FOR PRAYER AND PRAISE Over the past year, we have known a real blessed time of missions and we praise God for His goodness. Thank you sincerely to all who pray so faithfully for the work here in the Highlands and Islands. The Lord has certainly answered prayer. In August, we held a mission at the Riverside, Wick a familiar site, in years gone by, for gospel outreach. We had a good team to help put up the tent and the meetings ran for two weeks. Attendances were fairly small to begin with but, as the nights went on, more people began to come, including some who are not familiar with going to church. It was lovely to see folks bringing friends, keen for them to hear the clear gospel message each night. It was thrilling to have around fifty people of all ages sitting around tables, getting to know each other better at the Saturday coffee morning. After refreshments, there was a time of singing followed by a Thought For The Day. Through these events, we believe God worked in hearts, and we pray that the effects will live on. During November, we held three weekends as follow up from the tent missions in Harris, Lewis and Skye. How encouraging it was to return to those places again and sense the enthusiastic desire for the Lord to continue working. We truly thank God for all He has done and look ahead with anticipation for what He will yet do. Acts 14:7: and there they continued to preach the gospel. GARRY & ALISON TUTTY witness to God at work Praise the Lord for two great missions recently. Many unsaved attended a two-week mission in Largy at which Trevor Gillanders preached. During the second week, God moved by His Spirit and four young people and one of their mothers sought the Lord for salvation; most of these folk had been on drugs. They are going on well with the Lord, and are now regularly attending prayer meetings. Trevor Matthews joined us for a most worthwhile fortnight in Milford Mission Hall. The highlight was being able to pray in a number of homes and to leave a Bible with a young lady who is really disillusioned by religion but open to the gospel. Many unconverted attended, some regularly. The sense of God s presence was real and the local Christians gave 100% support. One young lad, much prayed for in Milford and who often attended the hall, has sought the Lord and is witnessing to others. Praise Him. Thank you for your part; please pray on. ARABELLA PAUL tells of opportunities in schools Children asked some incredible questions in the recent Bible Explorer series at which I taught. Are you 100% sure about God? one child inquired. Another wanted to know: Where is heaven? One of the lads asked: Can you take my sins away? No, I replied, but Jesus can. Please pray that he and many others will seek the Lord.
