1 PRAYER DIARY A daily prayer guide for the work of The Faith Mission MARCH - JUNE 2018 they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. Isaiah 40:31

2 A WORD FROM THE GENERAL DIRECTOR I was recently struck by Mark s comments about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The life and ministry of Jesus is epitomised by the comment He went a little further (14:35). In this passage we clearly see that He went further in the place of prayer. The passage tells us that He came to the place which is named Gethsemane (v.32). This suggests a place of solitude for prayer. Many believe this was a place that Jesus frequented when seeking to commune alone with His Father. Surely we too should ensure we have a place which we frequent to spend time alone with our Father before facing the demands of daily life. He began to be troubled and deeply distressed (v.33) speaks about passion in prayer. The burden and crushing anticipation of betrayal, mock trial and death by crucifixion that He was about to endure drove Jesus to intense prayer. Passion in prayer will arise from the measure of burden we have for those who do not yet know our Saviour. The passage then speaks about surrender in prayer. Jesus cried: Father, all things are possible to you, take this cup from me; nevertheless not what I will, but what you will (v.36). I often wonder what might have been if Jesus had ended His prayer at take this cup from me! True prayer is not about persuading God to do what we want but about sensing and surrendering to what He desires. Jesus was persistent in prayer: Again He went away and prayed, and spoke the same words (v.39). This was not merely vain repetition, but evidence of His absolute dependence upon God. The saints of old often spoke about praying through, a phrase we don t hear very often these days. May God teach us to persist in prayer until we receive assurance that He will answer. Finally, in Luke s account of this occasion we read that Jesus was strengthened in prayer: Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven strengthening Him (Luke 22:43). Isaiah reminds us that they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. May God strengthen us to go further by seeking that place of solitude and keeping us passionate, surrendered and persistent in prayer. Thank you for sharing in this privilege and responsibility with us. e John Townend Seek first the kingdom (Matthew 6:33) Have faith in God (Mark 11:22) GENERAL HEADQUARTERS Add: Tel: Fax: Govan House, 548 Gilmerton Road, Edinburgh, EH17 7JD (0131) (0131) Web: hq@faithmission.org The Faith Mission is a charity registered in Scotland No. SC005119

3 MISSION NEWS POINTS FOR PRAYER AND PRAISE We thank God for His blessing on the Mission s ministry in recent months and for very real evidence of answered prayer. Many missions, conventions, Bible weekends, and children s and youth events will take place during the coming weeks and we trust the Lord for further evidences of answered prayer. We look forward to welcoming Margaret Roberts, a worker with The Faith Mission (in Canada), as she relocates to Ireland to join our team in the Irish Midlands. She arrives on March 22 and will initially be working alongside Mervyn & Rachel Tomb. Please uphold Margaret as she adjusts to working in the Irish culture and continue to pray that more people will become available to place in other needy areas. We value prayer as all the Mission Members meet together for prayer and fellowship at the Bible College 5-9 April. This is first time in six years that it has been possible for all Mission staff be together and we trust it will be an enriching time in each of our lives. Remember Rev Jim Lyons as he brings ministry from God s Word. A real answer to prayer recently came in the person of Dr David Reimer. David has joined our Bible College staff on a part-time basis and, in addition to leading some lectures, is giving detailed help with our application for university validation. He is a lecturer in Old Testament studies, has been involved in academia throughout his professional life, and is well qualified and experienced in working with university validation boards. Pray that as he and Robert Murdock work together on this application, God will give the direction and wisdom needed. Also in relation to the Bible College, we look forward to the launch of a gap year course in September. This is aimed at benefitting those who would like to further their understanding of the Bible and strengthen their relationship with the Lord before going on to do college and university courses or embarking on their careers. ARABELLA PAUL is rejoicing We had two small but blessed five-day after school clubs in January. At the end of the first week, completely unprompted, a little lad said: Last night I asked Jesus to wipe all the bad things away. The following week at a nearby club, the children were so keen that they began singing one of the songs impromtu, and one of the teachers told me that one of the lads had asked to pray in the middle of the maths lesson! On the final day of this club, a lass said she had prayed a prayer last night. Having been asked what she prayed, she said: I asked Jesus into my heart. Later she shared with the whole club. After the Bible story, another lass said she had trusted the Lord in the middle of the club itself. We have been given a number of fully illustrated Action Bibles which have been a joy to give to the schools. They have certainly been appreciated. May the seed sown in these precious young lives bear fruit and be used to the Lord s glory. WILLIAM & CAROLYN HARRISON are thankful Praise the Lord for His presence and blessing during the recent Cumbria Bible Rallies. Andrew Quinn and the team of Faith Mission Bible College students brought anointed, timely, relevant ministry. Pray that the influence of this weekend will have far reaching consequences, particularly among the significant number of young people who attended. ALISTAIR & YVETTE PARK ask much prayer We have a Faith Mission Conference in Mustard Seed Evangelical Church in Callington on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 June, when Robert Murdock, the principal of the Bible College, will be sharing. Pray that Christians from many different churches will come and will be challenged to consider how the Mission can help them in evangelism. On Sunday Alistair Patterson preaches in the morning and Robert speaks about the Satellite course to a group of pastors, church leaders and others who are interested in studying the Bible. Ask the Lord to use this weekend to advance His Kingdom.
