Little Fishes is supervised so parents may return into the church service. Children (3-11 years) may leave for Kingfishers, which starts this morning. We follow a programme of Bible teaching, activities include storytelling, art and craft, prayers as well as songs. We help the children learn about Jesus and grow in their faith in a fun way. Young people (Year 8 Year 10) may leave for Disciples an interactive program helping our Young Teens to find their place in our church Family. Older Teens (Year 11-14) are encouraged to remain in the service and worship with the congregation. 4 HISTORY The desire to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to women and girls of India was the prime motivation for the formation of the first women s organisation of the Presbyterian Church in It was called the Female Association for Promoting Christianity Among the Women of the East. It was shortened to the Zenana Association. Between 1874 and 2000 the PWA and its preceding organisations sent 239 missionaries into eleven countries and Miss Susan Brown went to India as the first missionary of the Association. In 1904, the General Assembly, concerned about long working hours for women and girls in the factories and mills, made a recommendation for an agency of fully trained women workers to be introduced into congregations. This resulted in the formation in 1905 of The Women's Association for Home Mission, followed by the Deaconess Guild in The first deaconess was Miss Betty Barclay. In 1905 the Presbyterian Women's Union was formed for fellowship and to hear and discuss lectures on edifying matters. They quickly saw the need to help girls coming to work in Belfast from the country. In Church House a Bible class was held on Sunday afternoons followed by tea. During the week there were evening classes in cooking, dressmaking, and handcrafts and at lunchtime many girls came to make tea and eat their sandwiches. By 1971 there had been several name changes and the PWA was formed by amalgamating the Women s Missionary Association, Women s Home Mission and the Presbyterian Women s Union. In the same year the YWG (Young Women s Group) was recognised as part of the PWA by the General Assembly, while still retaining their own identity and having a separate Central Committee.

5 In 2000 the PWA became involved in the financial support of all missionaries in partnership with the Overseas Board, (now called Board of Mission Overseas) through the Mission Fund. In 2005 the PWA entered a new financial partnership with Board of Mission in Ireland for supporting deaconesses also through the Mission Fund. In 2008 there was a coming together of PWA and YWG to form Presbyterian Women. The organisation aims to provide an opportunity for women to have fellowship with one another and to seek to win women for Jesus Christ. It also aims to encourage Christian discipleship and to foster support for local and global mission. MOTTO Living for Jesus. LOGO The circle around the cross represents women whose lives are centred on the Lord Jesus Christ. MISSION STATEMENT AND AIMS Presbyterian Women encourages women to become disciples of Christ. Presbyterian Women aims to highlight the need for: 1. Love and unity 2. Obedience to God 3. Christian living and spiritual maturity 4. Service using gifts, time and money 5. Prayer is available to everyone whether you are a church member or not. TODAY Sunday Night Live including Holy Communion starts at 7.00pm. This week Praise and Pancakes and John will be speaking on The Servant King from john 13:1-17. There is full information on the website and church app. Monday 5th February Alpha Course Continues 7.30pm The ALPHA course continues at 7.30pm in the Minor Hall at Fisherwick Presbyterian Church. Each evening will begin with a meal together, followed by a talk and then table discussion. The talks are designed to encourage conversation and explore the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. There is no charge to participate. Tuesday 6 th February The Ladies Badminton Club meet at 10.00am in the Musgrave Hall. The Babies & Toddlers Group meets at 10.00am in the Minor Hall. Over 18 Badminton Club re-starts tonight at 7.30pm in the Musgrave Hall. The Student Small Group meet in the Robertson Room from 8.00pm to 10.00pm. The Bowling Club continues in the Musgrave Hall at 7.30pm.You will be made most welcome. Join us for friendly competition and friendship. 9 Girls and Boys Brigade starts at 6.30pm. The Girls Brigade is a Christian uniformed organisation for the girls aged 3 years and upwards. It is international and interdenominational. They meet on Thursday evenings in the Church Halls from September to April. Girls 3-8 years are called Explorers and meet from pm. The Juniors (P5-P7), Seniors (Form 1-3) and Brigaders (Form 4+) meet from pm. ]The Boy's Brigade also meet on Thursday. The Anchor Boys (P1-P4) and the Junior Section (P5-P7) meet at pm. We provide activities and opportunities for the girls and boys and help them find new interests, learn new skills and discover their gifts. It is all about having fun and meeting new friends. Friday 9 th February The Friday Morning Congregational Prayer Meeting starts at 7.30am in Wilson House, which is open to everyone to attend. The prayer meeting will finish at 8.15am, however if you have to leave earlier that is fine. Youth Club continues tonight at pm for those going into P4 up to P7. We're excited to see you! Come along. For more information speak with Danny. imeal WInter/Spring 2017: International Student Hospitality This hospitality ministry provides a weekly home cooked meal to over 60 international students and a place to befriend students in the name of Jesus. This term, Fisherwick has been asked to provide the dessert on three occasions. The needs are: 21st February - Cheesecake for 10 people - 8 needed 14th March - Apple or Rhubarb Tart for 10 people - 8 needed There is a rota at the back of church for signing up to each of these at imeal. 10 FREE WILL OFFERING ENVELOPES 2018 If you have not collected your FWO envelopes for 2018 please do so today. They are available at the rear of the church for collection, as in previous years. PCI Youth Assembly 9th February 2018 You are invited to attend PCI's Youth Assembly which will take place on Sat 10th Feb 2-9pm. 'The title is 'RE-IMAGINE:Presbyterianism for today's generation'. We have been asked to send up to 5 delegates. Delegates need to ideally be between 15-25ys old, be Communicant Members and be regular attenders. Delegates should be willing to participate in discussion in small groups. This is a great opportunity to have your opinion heard and will also be an opportunity to meet with other young Christians from across Ireland. The Church will cover delegates fees and all delegates need to be registered through Fisherwick.

The Church App (free on both Apple and Google App Stores) is designed for your smart phone and tablet and is simple to use as a way to easily access Church Announcements, Audio of church services, Church Calendar, Helpful information, PCI weekly prayer requests, PCI videos and a Bible (if you need assistance on how to use it speak to Raymond) 5. Ministers, Elders and Staff - face to face communication is often the best way to communicate so please come and chat after services or contact the office through the week.
