Anyone who encounters Christianity from the media must surely consider it a weird sect full of people who don t relate to normal folks. Yet all over the world billions of people practice this faith so there must be something in it. We are going to explore where life and faith meet.

2 Welcome... We welcome all visitors to our service this morning. It is nice to see you worshipping with us and we hope you will enjoy your time among us. If you are hard of hearing, for your convenience there is a hearing induction loop fitted. Please switch your hearing aid to the T position for best reception. We provide crèche facilities during the morning service which you are welcome to take advantage of. Speak to any of the people at the door for more details. Feel free to sit anywhere within the congregation as there are no personalised seats. Here at Granton Parish Church we offer a range of social and spiritual groups covering all ages where you can mix, enjoy fellowship and grow within our community. Please feel welcome to join us at any of our groups. Details are over the page and on our website at To help us keep in touch with you we would appreciate if you would fill in the contact sheet you will find in the chair back that is in front of you. Just fill it in, put it with the offering and that way we can stay in touch. Coffee after the services It is important to get to know one another so every week after our service we offer tea and coffee as a chance to chat and catch up. If you are new to our fellowship please join us so that we can get to know you and if you are an old timer why not take the chance to catch up with friends. 5 Organisations Information Ladies Fellowship A chance for the mature ladies of our congregation to come together in a time of chat and socialising! Always with a spiritual twist! See Jessie Macdonald ( ) for more information. Bible Study A chance to explore the Bible and see what it has to say on a range of topics relating to everyday life. Primarily for those with questions who are seeking more understanding. Contact Norman if you wish more info. ( ) Details of the topics/dates are on the back notice board. Next passage for study is: Rom 1: CUBS / SCOUTS / BEAVERS The 87th Scouts have spaces for all young people from the ages of 6 through to 18, in the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. For more information see their website at or speak to Chas, Sharon, Anne, Gillian or Derek. 19 th Leith (Granton Parish Church) BB Company The Junior Section meets at 6.30pm to 7.45pm and welcomes Boys in Primary 4 to Primary 6. The Company Section meets at 8.00pm until 9.30pm and is open to Boys in Primary 7 up to age 18. For further details on all the BB activities, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, please contact the Company Captain, Alan Summers, on or smaks@o2.co.uk The Patch Club is at am in the West Hall. This group is for pre-school children and their parents. There is music, craft, Bible Stories etc. All the learning is activity-based. If parents wish to attend the Church Service, they can bring their children to the service and the crèche staff will take them to the Patch Club after the Conversation Time with the Children. Leaflets are available at the back of the Church. Contact Elsie Moir for details., Men s Club (Bowls) The Club opens on Tuesday the 6th October in the East Hall at 2.00 pm. and meets every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Bowls are played on two carpets. Club bowls are available. Membership open to all Gentlemen, but we are of mostly retiral age. Come and join us for a cup of tea. For further details phone Chris Hansen on The Magic Carpet Club. This Club is for parents and their pre-school children. Activities include storytelling, music, craft work and free play. 6 Reading in Church If you would like to do one of the readings, please see the sign up sheet at the back of the church. If you want to but have never done it before, speak to Norman as coaching is on offer! Choir Practices Choir practice will next be on Thu 8th October (7:30pm to 9:00pm). If you can sing in tune and can blend with other singers, then come and speak to Alister after the service. You don't need to be able to read music, but great if you can. Film Containers - If you have been collecting your pennies over the summer, now is the time to bring these back. Please place them in the offering basket or pass them to David Duncan. Your help in raising funds has been really appreciated! Are you a man? Are you hungry? Do you want real men s food? We have decided to offer something for the men in the congregation and all men are invited to come along on Saturday 10th October from 9-10 am to the Session Room where we will offer the chance to share a cooked breakfast and a chat. Bring a paper! For more details see Norman. Church Drama - We are planning to use drama in our services over the coming year and Stuart Mitchell is going to co-ordinate and direct. If you would like to be involved in this, please speak to Stuart. At 8.30pm on Sunday 18th October in the Usher Hall there is a chance to join with people from all over Edinburgh to praise God. Led by a professional band and Choir this free event promises to be a great night. You need a ticket to get in and these can be had at Wesley Owen, 119 George Street, Edinburgh or The Faith Mission Bookshop, Gilmerton Road, Edinburgh (group bookings of more than 5 tickets must be made online). See Norman! Today in our prayers we remember all the ways God blesses us. We have so much when others have so little. We thank God for all we have. Sunday 18th October will be a family service where our children will be taking part in our worship.

7 "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Don t forget to PRAY for others. You cannot give them a better gift! Nationally in Scotland this year is a special one where we are celebrating our roots. People who have been connected with our country are being encouraged to come back and celebrate their past connections. We are doing the same in here in Granton by holding a Homecoming themed service on Sunday 1st November. If you know anyone who was connected to Granton but has moved on then please let Ian/Irene McPherson or Olive Lyall know. Sunday 1st November at 6.30pm in the evening we will be gathering to remember loved ones who have passed away. The Thanksgiving & Memorial service is a particularly poignant and meaningful time where we have the opportunity to give thanks for those we have had the privilege of sharing Proposed plans to redevelop the vestibule are at the back of the church. Please pray and ask God to make his will clear to us as a church on whether we should do this.
