2 Collect God our redeemer, you have delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your Son: grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life, so by his continual presence in us he may raise us to eternal joy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen First Reading : Ephesians 1:15-end A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love towards all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. This is the word of the Lord. 3 Second Reading : Verses from Matthew 13 Readings from the Gospel according to Matthew. Jesus put before them another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches. He told them another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened. The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls;on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and caught fish of every kind; when it was full, they drew it ashore, sat down, and put the good into baskets but threw out the bad. So it will be at the end of the age. Have you understood all this? They answered, Yes. And he said to them, Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old. When Jesus had finished these parables, he left that place. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God 3

4 Post-Communion Prayer God our Father, whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life: may we thirst for you, the spring of life and source of goodness, through him who is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen 4

5 Notices Next week s readings are Acts 1:15-17, 21-end, 1 John 5:9-13 and John 17:6-19 Save the Date! Samuel Frampton, our intern from 2013/14 is being ordained at St Albans Abbey at 11am on Sunday 1st July. He would be delighted if some of us from St Barnabas were able to share in this wonderful day with him. I will certainly be attending and have been invited to preach and concelebrate at his first service in his new curacy church that same evening. There is a sign-up sheet at the back of church for those who intend going to this joyful event. Last chance to sign up! Spring Music Festival on Saturday 12 th May from 3-5pm in St Barnabas Church featuring Blow Saxophone Ensemble and Swanmore Wind Band. Tickets available from Barnaby s 5, children free, to include tea and cake. Pause to Pray! Remember to Pause to Pray every Tuesday between 10am and 11am. It is not another prayer meeting but instead is an invitation to you to pray at some point in that hour wherever you are. Please pray for our church - that we might grow in our discipleship, our relationship with our community and in numbers of our church family. 5

6 Meon Valley Food Bank Thank you so much for all your kind donations. Since 1st February this year we have been able to help 254 people. The items needed for the coming week are tinned peas/carrots, cream crackers, porridge oats, tinned meat meals and shampoo. Follow us on or at Christian Aid Coffee Morning on Saturday 12 th May 2018 in Barnaby's Coffee Shop, Swanmore from 10am to 1pm. Support for the charity will be very welcome. Wendy Horn. Choir for the Deanery Ascension Day Eucharist Singers are invited to join the choir for the annual Deanery Eucharist at Meonstoke Church on Thursday 10 May at 7.30 pm. There is a practice at 6.30pm that evening and singers can choose to be robed or not (most are - we can supply). There is a wide selection of music including Deep River, Ave Verum (Elgar) and Haydn's The Heavens are Telling. This is a good opportunity to sing in a large choir with minimal rehearsal for what is always a joyful service. Deanery Eucharist for Ascension Day on Thursday 10 th May at 7.30pm at St Andrews Church, Meonstoke. The preacher will be The Venerable Gavin Collins Archdeacon of the Meon with the gathered choirs of our Deanery, led by Davis Burgess. Followed by refreshments. All Welcome. 6

7 Saying Goodbye service 12 th May am at Winchester Cathedral. A remembrance service for people who have suffered the loss of a baby at any stage, and whether that be recently or decades ago; and anyone grieving the fact that they have been unable to have children. Please see noticeboard poster for further information. Christian Aid walk 2018 The Christian Aid walk takes place on 20 th May at St Nicolas Church in Wickham from 1:45pm. Car parking is available in the church car park 100 yards on the left beyond the church or in the village. ******There will now also be car parking at the Glenn Field near Wickham church in view of the Wickham fair impact.***** Choices of 10 miles, 5 miles or family walk. Dogs on leads are welcome. Registration from 1pm. Tea and cake available at the end of the walk. Please pray for Philip Dean as he travels to Sierra Leone from May 11th-19th, that God s protection will be upon him but also that his time at the St George Foundation will be a great blessing for all.
