3 Seminar 1: Being a mum AND walking with Jesus On becoming a mum a woman s life changes from a generally self-directed life to a life of self-sacrifice being driven by the needs of others. As women we want to be worshiping like Mary, but the Martha inside us keeps us busy suggesting it is ok to leave our worship until our tasks are complete. Does God really want us to lead frantic lives without a moment for Him? This seminar will consider the demands faced by a modern mum, reflect on the importance of maintaining intimacy with God through the busy years and consider solutions to help disciple mums with young children. What can the church do, what can older women do, what can husbands do and what can mums do? Seminar 2: Releasing the Word of God Our heart s desire is that people will encounter Jesus through the Word of God. But how will they hear? Alongside church, and missions and events, what if we were confident enough to sit down and read a Gospel with someone or lead a discussion group? The potential for gospel impact is really significant. The aim of the seminar is simple to encourage us that we can do it and inspire us as to the difference it might make. Following on from the seminar there will be a practical nuts and bolts how to session entitled: Reading through Mark s Gospel 1-to-1. Seminar 3: Pop Culture as a Religion People often think that a secular society is defined by the absence of religion. This is a myth. In truth, there is always a source of worship that drives the beliefs and practices of any society. As Christians, there is a need to be able to discern what the true religion of our society is. This is where pop culture is helpful. Pop culture reveals the hidden worship that directs the lifestyles - not simply of non-christians - but also of many Christians. In this seminar we ll try to dissect pop culture in order to gain a better understanding of the false religion that is in the driver s seat of our society. Seminar 4: I m human. So what? Christians have hotly contested a whole range of issues in the church and society relating to morality and in discussion of what it means to be human: for example, fertility control, end of life, human sexuality. Does equality always triumph over diversity? On many occasions churches may feel their voice has not been heard. Perhaps the law has changed to permit something they believe to be wrong. In practical terms how does one then live with this? How can a faith based view of humanness be a positive attribute, rather than a state of disaffection? Seminar 5: Working out our salvation That is allowing our salvation to work through our lives, in relation to our use of God-given resources such as time, work and money, or the lack of them. Managing our time, how much of it is ours? Enjoying or enduring our work, is it God-ordained or a necessary evil? Coping with too few resources or guilt about too many. Seminar 6: Living for Christ in a consumer age A shopping centre is now the place of choice for the majority on a Sunday morning. What is a consumer age? How can Christians live faithfully in such an age? We will look at the history of consumerism, its spread around the world today and what the Bible has to say about our response to it. Seminar 7: A global view of the state of world mission A fast moving overview showing where God is at work in His world. We ll look at places of huge church growth and places where little appears to be happening. It will be a seminar to encourage as we see the greatness of God and His faithfulness to His promises, but also to challenge as we consider the work still to be accomplished if we are to fulfil the Great Commission. SEMINARS
