3 Youth Mission Trip Update We are still in the planning stages for our two youth Mission Trips happening this summer. The Junior High trip (June 16-21) has one opening. We have two openings on the High School trip to West Virginia (July 13-20). For information, contact Ed Duncklee at or Vacation Bible School Saint Anne Parish is again offering a Vacation Bible School for children ages 3 to 12 this summer. VBS is a collaborative effort with other Kenosha Catholic parishes. The dates for this year s VBS are the mornings of Monday, August 5 th to Thursday, August 8 th. We will end with a Family Picnic and celebration the evening of Thursday, August 8 th. Registrations are being accepted. See the Kiosk for permission forms. That Man is You! Kenosha Catholic Youth Cookbook Fundraiser Calling all Cooks, the Kenosha Catholic Youth are looking for your favorite recipes to be part of their upcoming Cookbook. Kenosha Catholic Youth is a collaborative ministry shared by the parishes and Catholic schools of Kenosha. Saint Anne s youth play a major part in this ministry. The funds raised from this cookbook will help off-set our annual Mission Trips. We will be collecting recipes all summer; the Cookbook will be available before Thanksgiving just in time for Holiday gifts! There are 8 different categories: 1. Appetizers, Beverages & Dips 2. Soups & Salads 3. Breads & Rolls 4. Vegetables & Side Dishes 5. Main Dishes & Meats 6. Deserts 7. Cookies & Candies 8. Rosary for Youth Twice a month we offer the youth of Saint Anne varied opportunities to explore our faith, to share lessons, and to have fun. Our next Youth Ministry gathering is Wednesday, May 8 th beginning at 6:00 pm. This session will be devoted to the rosary What is it? Why it is important? We will pray a living, reflective rosary to conclude the evening. All youth, grades 6 to 12, are invited to join us. Student Cantor Apprenticeship Program at St. Anne There will be an information meeting on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Anne for any students years old who are interested in serving as cantors. Kay will be starting an apprentice training program for young singers throughout the Kenosha area. For more information please contact Kay at ksparling@saint-anne.org CUSH Celebration Banquet May 9 The annual CUSH Celebration Banquet will be held on Thursday, May 9 th at 6:00 pm at the Italian American Club. Our guest speaker will be Rev. Joseph Ellwanger, author of the soon to be published autobiographical book Strength for the Struggle. Rev. Ellwanger is a retired ELCA Pastor who marched with Rev. Martin Luther King in the historic civil rights movement. He has been active in our statewide interfaith work and a key figure in our present initiative to increase funding in our state budget for treatment for low-risk offenders afflicted with substance abuse or mental illness. This year CUSH issues have focused on Treatment Alternatives to Incarceration, Rights of Immigrants and local transit issues. Our banquet is CUSH s major fundraiser, and your support is appreciated as we continue to live our faith by working for a just society. Please plan on joining us! Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha Golf Outing Habitat for Humanity will sponsor their inaugural Golf Outing, Friday, June 14th at Maplecrest. We are looking for golfers. 4 BEHOLD, BE HERE: Saturday, May 25, 7 p.m. The final BEHOLD event of the school year will be held on Saturday, May 25, 7 p.m. at St. Anne Our guest preacher is Father Michael Lightner, Administrator for St. Margaret Mary Parish in Milwaukee. As a standout athlete in high school, Michael accepted a full scholarship to play football at the University of Eastern Michigan. Standing 6 ft. 4 in, in height and possessing a massive build of 330 lbs, he was the ideal candidate for the NFL's next offensive lineman. On a Marian Pilgrimage, with his mother Joyce, the Lord called to him, to come play for His team. Through his incredible Confession, to seeing God's healing power firsthand, this college footballplayer was deeply moved by God's Divine Mercy. Come hear his remarkable conversion story of Fr. Mike -- it will capture the hearts and minds of all ages. Our BEHOLD event will also include Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, opportunities for confession, and praise music by the band, Yielding (formerly Adoro). Kenosha Catholic Woman s Club The Kenosha Catholic Woman s Club will have their May Luncheon Meeting at the Kenosha Country Club, Saturday, May 18 th. Social begins at 11 a.m., with lunch at 11:30. Volunteer Opportunity at St. Vincent DePaul Store Do you have a few extra hours each week or biweekly? The St Vincent DePaul Store in Kenosha is looking for volunteers. They have a variety of opportunities available in the store as well as in the back room or warehouse. My name is Jane Herbert and I am part of the St Vincent DePaul Ministry here at St Anne and I am a regular, weekly volunteer at the store. If you have questions or want more information, please feel free to contact me at jane.herbert101@gmail.com or This volunteer opportunity is very rewarding and fun. It is also greatly appreciated by the SVDP staff. All of the funds raised through sales at the store go back to the community to help the less fortunate and those in need. Together not Torn: Families Can t Wait for Immigration Reform The long-awaited senate bill for Comprehensive Immigration Reform has been introduced. The debate is vigorous. People of faith and other advocates are hopeful. Join CUSH in an evening of prayer, study and discussion of the proposed legislation. Thursday, May 16, 7:00 p.m., Immanuel United Methodist Church, 5410 Sheridan Road, Kenosha The gathering will commemorate the Fifth Anniversary of the Postville, Iowa Immigration Raid. The purpose of the event is to remember the 389 persons who were arrested on May 12, 2008, to reconcile with those who contributed to the injustices, and to advocate for the reform of immigration policies. Five years ago the largest single-site immigration raid at the time in the history of the United States occurred in Postville, Iowa. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials raided Agriprocessors, the main producer of kosher meat in the United States, handcuffed immigrants and bused them to the National Cattle Congress in Waterloo, Iowa. Most detainees were charged with identity theft and were shipped to prisons across the country where they spent five months before being deported. Immigration charges against the CEO of Agriprocessors were dropped. In a matter of hours on that fateful day, Postville lost a significant amount of its population and worse yet; hundreds of families were torn apart. 5 2013 Parish Council Nominations What does a parish council member do? Parish council members are asked to: provide spiritual leadership for our parish have a concern for the whole parish and not just one issue or one dimension learn about their faith, their church, and their parish make a three year commitment participate in monthly council meetings, an annual parish council retreat, three leadership meetings yearly and serve as liaison to a parish commission be a registered member of the parish who is baptized and over 18 years of age What kinds of qualities are needed for spiritual leadership? a firm belief and understanding of the mission of the Church and our parish a willingness to listen to others viewpoints and freely share personal viewpoints the ability to relate to people, to work as a team member, and to reach agreement through consensus a willingness to participate in ongoing leadership formation a willingness to complete the orientation session provided by the Archdiocese This year two new council members will be selected to serve three-year terms. If you are sensing a call to serve St. Anne on Parish Council, please consider nominating yourself. If you have observed others in the parish who you think have the qualities needed for spiritual leadership, nominate them. An informational meeting will be held for all those nominated on Tuesday May 7 th at 7pm at the church to learn more about the responsibilities of parish council membership. The discernment process will be discussed and nominees will also have an opportunity to ask questions. Each person nominated will be invited to a Discernment Meeting on Wednesday, May 15 5h at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at St. Anne. Parish Council meets on the 2 nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. It consists of the pastor, 2 trustees, and 7 at-large members. Those discerned to serve on Parish Council will attend the Wednesday, June 12 th Parish Council meeting. At this meeting officers for the next year will be selected. You can nominate yourself or anyone else in the parish.
