2 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time Barns Filled With Riches The mortgage is paid off. So are the loans that were taken out for college tuition and children s weddings. The second home that was once a far-off dream is now so close that it seems safe to dig out the real estate magazines. And then... a daughter or son can no longer take care of a child. It s time to start over, this time as grandparents in the parents role. Thousands of older adults face this situation today, becoming temporary or permanent guardians of their grandchildren. Vanity of vanities. The years of toil with sights set on a great reward now belong to someone else: food, clothing, braces, summer camps, and school tuition. But, as one grandmother said of her 13-year-old granddaughter, Megan, It has all been worth it. She brings such joy. What would I do without her? And so the barns filled with riches are again taken down and new and true riches are discovered. Once again a new self is found in Christ, and the storehouse is filled with life that is truly pleasing to God Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. He is well now and out of gratitude for his health and the desire to help others with serious illnesses, the Leo The Lion Foundation was formed. This is the third year of this golf outing and the proceeds from this year s outing will be for the Children s Hospital of Wisconsin on behalf of our parishioner, Abigail Burnett. Abigail was born in the summer of 2011a happy and healthy baby. At 6 weeks of age, her parents Ed and Lisa began to notice physical changes causing concern, the most prominent being an indication that she had lost the use of her left arm and hand. Her symptoms worsened which led the family to Children s Hospital of WI Emergency dept. Abigail was found to have mass in her spinal cord; and more ominously, aneurysms including one near the heart. Abby underwent surgery to repair her aorta and save her life! There is still no diagnosis of her disease. Research and cure is costly and the Foundation is honored to donate proceeds on Abby s behalf to the Children s Hospital of WI. Info on the outing is below. 3 Do You Love the Faith? Our Catholic faith is a priceless gift from God and passed down to us through our parents, families, and the community in which we pray. As Catholics, we live under the challenge of Jesus to go forth and preach the Gospel (the "Good News"). We are in need of adults who will share their faith and love of God with our children and youth as catechists and assistants. We offer training during the month of August and September before our classes begin the end of September. If you are willing, if you are interested, if you are curious - call the parish office. Commissions and Finance Council: Early this summer at Saint Anne, we instituted a new Commission Structure, along with a Finance Council. If you have any questions or concerns in any of these areas, listed here are the parishioners who chair them. Finance Council: Dave Zenobi, dzenobi@wi.rr.com; Prayer and Worship: Mark Rogan, markrogan@rogansshoes.com; Evangelization: Margie Mandli, margie.mandli@gmail.com; Human Concerns: Sandy Milligan, samilligan@wi.rr.com; Stewardship: Phil Kent, philk@msco.net; and Linda Bevec, linda.bevec@gmail.com; Faith Formation: Shelley Burnett, shelleyburnett82@gmail.com. Thank you to all these parishioners for their dedication to these Commissions. Save the Date! On Wednesday, August 14 th (9:00 am 5:00 pm) we are hosting a Tour of Beautiful Churches. We will visit and tour The Basilica of Saint Josaphat, Joan of Arc Chapel at Marquette University, and the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist all of which are in Milwaukee. This outing is a combined program for Youth Ministry and our Saint Anne Seniors. If you are interested in participating, please call and leave your name and phone number with Corinne at ext Remembering the Sikh Temple Tragedy in Prayer The CUSH Religious Leaders Caucus and the Kenosha County Clergy Association will jointly sponsor a vigil Sunday, Aug. 4 at 8pm on the property of First United Methodist Church, at the corner of Sheridan Rd and 60 th Street.
