2 May 27 Pentecost Treasures from our Traditions The roots of today's "birthday of the Church" are in an ancient Jewish festival of springtime harvest, seven weeks after Passover. Now, seven weeks after Easter, our great fifty days of rejoicing come to an end. In the countries where the Church first came to life, this is a time of harvest, and the first fruits appear: apricots and lemons, cherries and strawberries. Even in our gardens, herbs are abundant and asparagus, that close relation of the Easter lily, comes fresh to our tables. The earth is laden with so much new life, and that has always been a sign to Christians of Easter's glory. Pentecost means "fifty" and our fifty days of Easter joy are complete. This Sunday is a day to savor the glory of Easter once more: picnics and cookouts, walks by the water, time in the garden--are all ways of extending the feast. Notice the paschal candle today, still burning during Mass. Our Easter celebration now complete, the candle will soon be moved to a place near the baptismal font, and be lighted at baptisms and funerals as a silent witness to Christ's abiding presence. 3 The Mission Trip to Rosebud Native American Reservation Needs Funds Become a Mission Trip Stockholder This June a group of 18 parishioners from Saint Anne will travel to Rosebud Native American Reservation in South Dakota to do mission work. For the next few weeks, some of the members of the mission team will be available after Mass to offer shares in the mission. We invite you to purchase shares which will help cover the cost of the trip and to pray for our safe and successful journey. Shareholders will receive updates, stock reports, and an invitation to a dinner after the mission. If you would like information on Stock Certificates for the Mission Trip, please contact Ed Duncklee or eduncklee@saint-anne.org. St. Anne Golf Outing Our annual golf outing will be held on Friday, June 29 th at Bristol Oaks Country Club. Check in will begin at 11am, with a NOON shot gun start. The St Anne Golf Outing is an adult only event. It includes an 18 hole golf scramble, lunch and a dinner buffet. Non-golfing adult spouses and guests are welcome to join the group for dinner. We will have a limited number of raffle items during dinner. We are looking for golf hole sponsorship to make this day a success. There will be a $10,000 prize for the hole in one contest and various other prize holes. In addition, awards will be given for: longest drive, longest putt and Best Outfit(s), and perhaps other awards too. We ve heard a lot of excitement for this event. As such, Rena Weyrauch and the planning team would like to host an open planning meeting for all those who would like to contribute their ideas, offer input and help gather hole sponsorships. Fortunately, Bristol Oaks manages all activities on the day of the event so we can all participate in the golf. Ministry Highlights Maintenance & Projects Ministry (Outside Plants) This year the Outside Plants ministry combined with the Maintenance & Projects ministry. Perhaps your forte is not cleaning the floors or windows but you enjoy working outside when the weather is good. The focus is working on the outside plants and trees with responsibility for weeding the landscaped areas surrounding the church, trimming tree growth, weeding the base of the trees, and under the bushes. Be willing to get your hands dirty on this ministry. It is also a great opportunity to include the children of the parish with a task that is familiar to home but will give the feeling of helping the community. Our ministry is active April October If you would like to help with this aspect of keeping your church property in good shape please contact the Parish Office by calling or ing Georgi Willing, gwilling@saint-anne.org. Parish Outreach Ministry is looking for help in the following ways: "Community Mission" -- We are exploring the opportunity to do some missionary work in our own Kenosha/Pleasant Prairie neighborhoods during Advent of this year. The concept is to target neighborhoods in which we can talk about Christ, do some Christmas Caroling and invite our fellow neighbors to St. Anne events and Mass. Volunteers needed to coordinate effort -- identifying neighborhoods, soliciting volunteer families of St. Anne to do the missionary work, and coordinating the date and event. This has been done successfully in other parts of the country. With Fr. Bob's past experience in this work, he will lead us in this effort. All parishioners are welcome to participate. Families with youth 6th -- 12th grade are encouraged to consider this opportunity. If you feel called to be a part of this effort, contact Margie Mandli at margie.mandli@gmail.com. St. Anne's BEHOLD Event -- Parish Outreach will be developing a calendar for our Behold events, which have typically included Praise music, Eucharistic Adoration, Reconciliation and a reflection. The band is gearing up for rehearsals. We are looking for youth 6th grade-12th grade to give input on this program. We are looking for 5-10 individuals who could serve as a "focus group" to determine what sorts of topics you'd wish to hear about, what day of the week is best for youth, and what sorts of activities might youth wish to include in these events. Please contact the parish office, jcunningham@saint-anne.org or , if you'd like to participate. Career Coaching Meeting Practical, proven approaches to help you get hired into that right job. (Isn t it time that you got the job that you really want!) The next Career Coaching meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 7, The meeting begins at 7.00 pm in the gathering area of our church. The format for this meeting will include a roundtable discussion of each attendee s current employment situation followed by a focused discussion by our facilitators on the best proactive steps to use in finding a job opening and then landing right -fit employment. In addition to the general open discussion, each attendee will have an opportunity to discuss employment challenges that he/she is facing. We have an excellent opportunity for networking, so please bring copies of your résumés or handbills. After we conclude the general session, we will break into smaller groups so that our subject-matter knowledgeable facilitators will be available to guide attendees through one-on-one coaching, providing specific support, and answering individual-specific questions. Please join us on Thursday evening, June 7. Anyone who is seeking career/employment changes is invited to attend the meeting. We also welcome those who wish to contribute their employment and/or networking information or coaching. If you have questions prior to the meeting, please contact Goretti Pereira at , or at pereiragoretti@yahoo.com
5 What do You Know about our Sister Parish, La Sagrada Familia? In 2003, St. Anne started looking for a sister parish. We started gathering information about parishes in other countries like Peru and Guatemala. As the Archdiocese already had a relationship with La Sagrada Familia, we decided to pursue a personal relationship between St. Anne and LSF. The sisters from the World Mission Office educated us on this process. We came to the conclusion that we wanted to be a "sister" not a "mother" parish. Sister parishes work in cooperation, friendship, and love with one another. A "mother" parish goes to the parish in another country and essentially says, We have resources which you lack and we want to do the following for you." This approach focuses more on doing FOR rather than doing WITH a sister parish. La Sagrada Familia is a very large parish, in area, and also in population. The pastors of LSF assigned us to help in a small section of the parish. Our first visit was to get to know the people. Our parishioners brought them a book with the story and pictures of St. Anne. Our parishioners stayed in the homes of some of the people in Ganadero. They are poor, but very welcoming and they were willing to give their best bedrooms and food to their guests. They took the visitors to their church for Sunday Mass. The church was quite old and dilapidated. Some time after that trip one of the priests told us that the parishioners had decided to build a church and they were asking for help. After much communication between the parishes, the people of St. Anne sent money to help finish the construction of their new chapel. About three years ago, two young women went to one of the poorest sections of the area and found out that the children in this community did not receive any education. With the help of the priests, they started a Nutrition Center. These women, with the help from other parishioners in Ganadero (the main village), remodeled the old church into a Nutrition Center. It has a kitchen, classrooms, playground, and eating space. The children come from the other communities and are taught reading and basic skills. They are fed a nutritious meal - something they would not get at home. Once again, the parishioners of La Sagrada Familia asked for our help. St. Anne offered to help them buy the food needed for the center. The Nutrition Center is working well and the people there work hard to continue its success. We hope to visit LSF this year. Please consider traveling to our sister parish to experience a different way of life, make lasting friendships, and help your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. You will spend your trip with loving and friendly people who do not have many resources, but are willing to give what they have; especially love, to make the visitors comfortable. This is an unmatched experience in living life and being in community with people who love each other and love God. If you are interested in traveling to the Dominican Republic or supporting our sister parish in any way, please contact Fr. Bob or the parish office. Thank you! Living Our Faith with Archbishop Listecki Finale Airs June 2 On June 2, Living Our Faith with Archbishop Listecki wraps up another exciting season with a look at evangelization. Taped on location at St. Anne s Parish, Pleasant Prairie, co-host Bob Dolan and Archbishop Listecki explore what local parishes are doing to evangelize in their communities, and he talks about the upcoming Year of Faith, which launches in October In addition, he will examine what people in the pews can do to help spread the Good News of our Catholic faith. Our filmed feature spotlights a senior outreach program in Eden, Wis., where some of our youngest parishioners are connecting with some of our most seasoned citizens in fresh, exciting ways. Summer is upon us, and so are the 2012 ethnic festivals! Every year, thousands visit the Summerfest grounds for colorful celebrations such as Irish Fest, Festa Italiana, Polish Fest and German Fest.
