2 Third Sunday of Easter, April 14, 2013 Living Stewardship Get Up Eight We can all take heart in today s Gospel. The risen Jesus appears to the disciples and asks Simon Peter three times, Do you love me? To each question Peter replies, You know I love you, and Jesus tells him to feed and tend his lambs and sheep. We should remember that it was around another charcoal fire only a few days earlier that Peter had denied three times that he even knew Jesus, and that afterward he went outside and wept. Our behavior, like Simon Peter s, can sometimes be a betrayal of our Lord and Savior, but the Good News is that sin and failure is not a permanent break in our relationship with God and other people unless we choose to make it so. In Peter, his reckless, hasty, and enthusiastic disciple, Jesus must have seen a very big heart and an even greater willingness to persevere, no matter what came his way, because Jesus trusted him with leadership of the little flock of believers. Peter followed Jesus faithfully, all the way to his own death by crucifixion in Rome. He was a flawed human being but we proclaim him a great saint of the Church. We, too, are flawed and God knows it, but God works with us and through us if we allow God to do so. The Japanese have a saying: Fall down seven times, get up eight, which is one way we could describe the Christian life. The falling down is painful, but it does not matter as long as we get up again and continue on. Copyright 2009, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. 4 St. Anne s Date Night Series for Married Couples Set for 2013 St. Anne has announced its 2013 Date Night Series. Back by popular demand, this series provides a fun night out for married couples rich in information, perspective and enrichment in a non-threatening manner. Each event begins with Mass at 6 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, with a devotional renewal of wedding vows, followed by cocktails, dinner and speaker presentation at Bristol Oaks Country Club. With the attack on marriage and family in our culture, we continue to place a high priority on the resources and opportunities for married couples, says Fr. Bob Weighner, pastor, St. Anne Catholic Church. I m personally excited about our line-up this year, as they are all top-notch professionals in their respective fields, with a deep understanding and love for Catholic teachings. The first event: Friday, April 26: Kevin Brock, former Intelligence Director, FBI, will speak on "Raising Kids in an Aggressive World." In light of recent events in school environments, and the pervasive culture of the Internet, video games and access to on-line activities, Kevin will speak about these realities and how best parents can be aware of the related issues and what protective measures they can take to minimize the dangers to their children. What s the Church All About? C4 Yourself! The next C4: Ignite Your Catholic Faith video on April 12 asks the question, What s the Church all about? Visit to view past and present videos, as well as to subscribe to the RSS feed to effortlessly follow this series throughout the Year of Faith. Knights of Columbus Charitable Raffle $50,000 raffle-$5 per ticket. The Knights distributed $304,000 to Councils for local charitable purposes and over $128,000 in state grants for medical needs. Tickets available after Sunday Masses. For more info contact Rich Mich at: shercookr@yahoo.com Save The Date: Shalom Center Walk The Shalom Center s 17th Annual Walk Against Hunger will take place on Saturday, May 18th at Veteran s Park at the corner of 54th St. and 6th Ave. in Kenosha. Please contact Fran Hansen for a pledge form or more information at ext. 123 or hansenf@shalomcenter.org SJCA Century Dinner Gala The Saint Joseph Athletic Association will host their annual Century Dinner gala on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Academy Upper Campus from 5 to 11 p.m. Proceeds from this event have allowed us to provide assistance to the SJCA athletic programs by updating equipment, uniforms and facilities for our athletes. Purchases in the last year include our own bus to help transport athletes to games, as well as new uniforms for boys and girls tennis, golf, cheerleading, softball and baseball teams. Your $200 contribution entitles you and a guest to attend the gala with great food, refreshing drinks and enjoyable music. Please contact Sheryl Acunal in the SJCA Athletic Office at (262) ext. 133 for details and reservations. This year s event promises to be outstanding! As always, thank you for your support of Catholic schools in Kenosha. We could not provide the outstanding education and activities to our students without our parish partners. God Bless. Natural Family Planning Course NFP utilizes knowledge of the woman's reproductive cycle through easily identifiable bodily signs, to enable couples to live God's plan for their family, giving them the means either to conceive a child, or to postpone a pregnancy for a serious reason (such as the health and well being of the mother). NFP helps the couple to follow Church teaching so that the marital act remains open to God's life-creating love, which both contraception and sterilization fail to do. NFP is also much healthier, because it introduces nothing artificial into marriage relations. Numerous studies have shown that the contraceptive pill is linked to breast cancer, and that sterilization has a number of harmful side effects. Be free from the harmful physical, emotional, and spiritual effects of contraception and sterilization? NFP encourages honest communication and usually makes marriages much stronger. The average divorce rate in the USA is well above 40 percent, whereas the rate with NFP couples is less than 5 percent. Keeping God in the marriage strengthens the bond between husband and wife. To quote Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen: "It takes three to marry, because it take three to love: the man, the woman, and God!" If you have never looked into NFP, we invite you to come and learn about this beautiful teaching. It costs you nothing to become informed. An NFP course will be starting at Mt. Carmel Church on Wed. April 24, taught by Laurie Walsh. The course is open to married couples and couples preparing for marriage. The course will consist of three classes, one month apart. The classes will be held in the meeting room of school at Mt. Carmel parish. Enter through the east door facing Columbus Park. The dates are Wed. April 24, 7pm; Wed. May 29, 7pm; Wed. June 26th, 7pm. To register please call Laurie Walsh at
