8 Holy Father s Prayer Intentions Brothers, The 2008 Edition of the Pa. State Board Calendars are now available from State Treasurer Eugene Daly. The calendars make great Birthday or Christmas presents. The cost is $40 and you have the same number for all 365 days. The winning numbers are based on the Pa. State Lottery number drawn at 7PM. 9 Over the past twenty-five years Denis Mulcahy, the founder of Project Children, has quietly masterminded summer vacations in America for more than 14,000 children in Northern Ireland. He has given these children - Protestant and Catholics a much needed break from the grim politics of their own country and an extraordinary chance to play together. 10 The An Gorta Mor Awards were created by The Hibernian Charity of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America to honor the people of Ireland who survived the Great Hunger and the Irish Diaspora, those who were forced to flee Ireland, in our case to North America, to survive the starvation and disease. It is our belief that no other people on earth have more awareness or empathy for those in need than the Irish and the foundation of the Irish Diaspora, the members of the A.O.H. The meals for the A.O.H. members and volunteers to serve are provided by Casa Garcia; a restaurant in Anaheim known for serving meals to those in need. This is the fourth year for this worthy event. 16 Montgomery County Montgomery County Sean MacBride Division 2, on Tuesday January 29 th, ten brothers prepare and packaged 150 meals for two local parishes. 100 meals went to Immaculate Conception in Jenkintown and 50 meals went to Saint Luke s in Glenside. It is hoped that each quarter the division will continue to provide meals for other parishes in there area. This should also give the Division opportunities to try and recruit new members. Northampton County Northampton County Division 2 donated 13 bags of clothes, 3 coats, and 2 pair of shoes to the Safe Harbor Homeless Shelter in Easton over the Christmas Holidays. Allegheny County Ten AOH brothers will be coming to Philadelphia on March 29 th to take part in our annual Hibernian Hunger Project cook-in at Aid for Friends. The remaining plastic paddy's are getting all dressed up and marching in the Girardville parade!! The year is somehow incomplete without at least ONE night at Granny's!! Philadelphia County HIBERNIAN HUNGER PROJECT EVENTS SCHEDULED The 4th Annual Great Irish Stew Cook-Off will be held on Thursday, March 13th, 2008 from 6 PM to 9 PM at Finnegan s Wake at 3rd & Spring Garden Sts. Tickets are $5.00 at the door, which gets you some of the BEST Irish Stew in Philadelphia, live Irish music, and a cash bar. The Cook- Off is judged in two categories; Professional - Restaurants, and Amateur - Individuals / AOH - LAOH Divisions. State President Denny Gaw will be a first time amateur. This annual event raises money to support the annual Hibernian Hunger Project Cook-In, which has in the last nine years, prepared, packaged and delivered over 67,700 individual meals to organizations like Aid For Friends, the Philadelphia Veterans Multi- Service & Education Center, the St. Francis Inn and St. John s Hospice to name a few. All of these organizations help to feed the elderly, homeless and less fortunate. So come out and kick off the Season of the Irish with great food and fun, while helping a great charity. On Saturday, March 29 th the Philadelphia AOH and LAOH will again be preparing and packaging meals for the 2,200 shut ins that need our assistance at Aid for Friends. Check it out.
