When the Federal Government closes or has a delayed opening, morning Mass is cancelled. In order to avoid risking your personal safety, please use wise discretion when travelling in severe weather. 3 OPENING FOR TEACHER OF 3 YEAR-OLDS AT ST. JOHN'S PRESCHOOL St. John the Apostle Preschool is seeking a part-time teacher for our three year-old students for the school year. The teacher will work with three year-old students on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:15am to 11:45am. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree and be a practicing Catholic. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in early childhood education and/or relevant experience working with children. We are looking for a caring, dynamic individual who will help our children grow spiritually and educationally, and who wants to be part of a great team in a very special working environment. REFLECTION As the Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking say to me, Son of man, I am sending you (EZEKIEL 2:2-3) God asks each of us to do some special work for Him. He gives us the resources we need to do His work. However, do we listen to God when He calls? Do we get up on our feet and use our talent to do the work He asks of us? Remember, God doesn t call the equipped, he equips the called. MONTHLY PRAYER VIGIL FOR PEACE Please join us next Saturday, July 14, for our monthly parish prayer vigil for peace, life, and justice, as we pray again this month for justice and compassion for immigrants and refugees, in light of events at our southern border. The vigil, sponsored by the Social Justice ministry, is from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. in the church near the choir area. We pray the Scriptural Rosary for Justice and Peace, listen to God s Word, and offer our intentions to our merciful Savior. INITIATION RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA) They shall know that a prophet has been among them We are familiar with some basic contradictions in the Bible. Prophets bring God s message to the People, but they have a hard time hearing it. Or, like St. Paul, it is in humility and powerlessness that the magnitude of God s sovereignty is experienced. In today s Gospel, we face another surprise. Jesus is terribly unsuccessful in his own hometown. While many of us can identify with having to leave home in order to make something of yourself, we might not consider the other side of this. That Jesus was in fact a migrant who often showed up places where he and the crowds around him were unwanted. Can you imagine if you were forced to leave your hometown? Where would you go? How would you go about seeking a living? How would you deal with being unwelcome? Following in Christ s footsteps is not always a comfortable or safe option, especially when one considers not just loving God in the comfort of one s home, but in loving neighbors whom make us uncomfortable.
