Thank you for your cooperation. 7 CAR WASH Thomas Jefferson Drive As you get your car washed, help the poor and needy. We receive 10% of what CTR parishioners pay. We regularly donate this income to LINK, S.O.M.E. and the Women's Shelter in Leesburg. As you pay at the carwash, tell them you are from CTR so we receive their donation. MOVING? If you are leaving the parish, please let us know by calling or dropping us a note. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Engaged couples must make arrangements at least six months prior to the date of marriage. All are required to participate in a marriage preparation program. Please call the office to make an appointment. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptism is ordinarily celebrated within a faith community. Please call the office to register for a preparation class and to arrange for a time for the celebration. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Confessions are heard on Saturdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Guadalupe Chapel. OFFERTORY GIFT BEARERS What an honor it is to carry the wine, hosts and offerings to the priest at Mass for consecration. The Diocese of Arlington is a vibrant diocese and we have been truly blessed. Yet, with this blessing comes increased spiritual and pastoral needs and an even greater obligation to help the many people in our midst who require our assistance and support. We are asking all families in our parish to support the Bishop s Lenten Appeal (BLA) to the fullest extent that they are able. Thank you to everyone who has pledged to the Bishop s Lenten Appeal. ARCHDIOCESE FOR THE MILITARY SERVICES 20TH ANNUAL MEMORIAL MASS Join in prayer with the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, to honor the men and women who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces at the 20th Annual Memorial Mass on the Fifth Sunday of Easter, May 18, at 4:30 p.m. in the Great Upper Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. The principal celebrant and homilist will be Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio. Military personnel are encouraged to wear service dress uniform; civilians are asked to wear business attire. ANOINTING MASS The parish community will celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick during a special Mass on Saturday, May 16 th at 11:00 a.m. The entire parish community is invited to participate at this special Mass, both those who suffer from physical and emotional illness and wish to receive this sacrament, and also the faithful who enjoy the gift of health whose presence is also a sign of prayerful support. SPRING PILGRIMAGE TO ITALY The Friars of the Atonement will sponsor a pilgrimage to Italy from October 5 16, PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE! INITIATION RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA) By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. Perhaps we are more familiar with Jesus saying, I am the vine and you are the branches. But in today s readings we hear that there is an outward sign made effective by the Word of God and belief in Jesus as Lord. Saul proves his fidelity as a follower of Christ by turning from his persecution of early Christians to becoming an ardent preacher, even at risk to his own life. The result: through consolation of the Holy Spirit, the numbers of believers increases. In the Second Reading, this belief and love for God transforms the lives of the Christian Community, who experiences this new reality by the presence of the Holy Spirit given to them. Let us never forget that what we hold in our belief is not a piece of knowledge, like a Math Fact. But rather what we hold is a truth of the relationship of God and humanity. Thus, how we live is an outward sign to us and to those who see us of the God we believe in and the love that God has for us and that we share with others. 6 10 Ways Fair Trade Pays It Forward 1. Fair trade ensures workers are paid a living wage that allows them to save and invest in their futures. 2. By buying fair trade, you re helping redistribute the global wealth and closing the gap between the developing and industrial world. 3. Fair trade supports practices that minimize our environmental footprint. There are no GMOs in fair trade certified goods, and no hazardous chemicals used in creating the product. 4. Fair trade features products unique to the cultures that created them. Coffee from Ethiopia? Skirts from Nepal? Fair trade makes these unique, culturally significant products possible. 5. Fair trade allows the producers to take control of their future by building their own businesses and cutting out middle men that reduce their profits. 6. Fair trade proves that how you spend your money matters and that your ethics are preserved. There s no need to support sweat shop labor or exploitative work environments. Buying fair trade means real people and their communities are benefiting. 7. Buying fair trade proves you care about more than just a low price tag; the human cost of production is also important to you! 8. Fair trade creates a high level of transparency and traceability when it comes to your goods. You re able to tell where each product comes from. 9. Fair trade supports small-scale producers and allows them to continue their work despite threats from large, subsidized companies. 10. Fair trade organizations give women the same amount of power as men and grant them equal opportunities. Fair Trade products are sold at Christ the Redeemer the first weekend of the month after all masses. Fair Trade coffee is served during Doughnut Sunday. The first weekend in November we will be offering a selection of Fair Trade gifts. Because chocolate production in West Africa (70% of the world supply) is heavily involved in human trafficking, all of our chocolate is produced in the Americas.
