2 TEMPORARY EXHIBITION ON SAINT THOMAS MORE In a new landmark exhibition, God s Servant First: The Life and Legacy of Thomas More, the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington, D.C. presents the life, martyrdom, and legacy of the 16th century English philosopher-statesman whom Pope John Paul II named the heavenly Patron of Statesmen and Politicians. The exhibition also explores the connection between Thomas More, the Carroll Family of Maryland, and the foundations of religious liberty in America. It features over 60 artifacts from England and the United States, including numerous period objects from Stonyhurst College in the United Kingdom that have never been exhibited in the United States. The exhibition runs from September 16, 2016 through March 31, 2017 and is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and The Christian Heritage Centre at Stonyhurst. Claire Caruso Director of Music Hailing originally from Valley Springs, California, Claire Caruso is honored to be serving as Music Director at Christ the Redeemer. Previous positions include music ministry at Beaumont Presbyterian Church in California, as well as Faith Lutheran Church and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Claire currently serves on the boards of the Arlington Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and the NOVA chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Claire was honored to be the recipient of the 2013 GIA Pastoral Musician Scholarship. She has performed in California, Indiana, Iowa, and Virginia. Claire holds a Bachelor of Music (B. M.) degree in Organ Performance from the University of Redlands and a Masters of Music (M.M.) degree in Organ and Sacred Music from Indiana University. She has studied organ and hymnody with Dr. Frederick Swann and Dr. Bruce Neswick. When not playing organ and directing choir, Claire enjoys reading, running, and spending time with her fiancé Jon Schweppe. Today s Gospel is contrasted with the First Reading, where we hear about the dishonesty in the marketplace waiting for Sabbath to end so that the schemes of financiers can cheat people of their wealth. We are assured that the Lord sees this dishonesty and will not forget all they have done. But Jesus goes on to tell the parable of a steward fearing for loss of his position. He goes and begins to forgive and mark down the debts owed to his master, thinking that when he is cast out, he will be well remembered. Jesus advises that so too we should befriend dishonest wealth, so that when it fails we will reap what is eternal. It is easier to remember that those who are trusted with small things will also be trusted with larger more important things. But pray too for St. Paul s insight that there is no mediator between God and humanity but Christ. Christ is the key between what is small in humanity and what is the eternal treasure in God.
